They'd clicked almost immediately upon meeting. Xingchen can't explain why. Soulmates?

What does that even mean?

He only knows that he can count on the other cultivator when he needs it. And even when he doesn't, there are some hunts, some days, that he seeks the other out and they just spend time together. Not always, or often, talking, because they don't need a lot of words to know the other's mind.

He thinks it's just a special connection, a meeting of minds rather than anything more. There's a festival in the town they're passing through and it has him pause, smiling as he watches the happy faces of the residents and passersby.

"Zichen. What do you think they're celebrating?"

He shies from company, from touch, disliking the latter intensely. But if there ever were someone for him - a soulmate - Xiao Xingchen is the best - and only - choice. There isn't anything he wouldn't do for him. This cold frost, this distant snow melts in his presence, heralding a tentative Spring.

Song Lan is at ease as he watches the festival and he even manages a small smile at Xiao Xingchen's interest.

"The harvest." he had noticed bundles of grain, stored away safely, "The weather will change soon. They have finished the majority of their fieldwork for the year."

Song Zichen is no where as cold as people think. Xingchen saw that immediately upon meeting him. He knows he doesn't know a lot about this world outside his master's influence, but after meeting this man, he has no concerns.

Just turning to look at Zichen has him smile when his friend answers, and explains. "Do you want to stay a few days to enjoy it?"

He knows Zichen is used to such things. Maybe misses it. He'd love to give this man something back that he doesn't get much of these days.

There are rarities in the world, those who believe in doing what is right for the sake of justice; of morality. Song Lan is one of them. When he first heard Xingchen speak of what he wanted to do in the world, he had rejoiced. Their paths aligned too perfectly for them not to travel together.

And, in moments like this, he senses his friend's kindness.

"You've never seen one." he likes showing Xingchen new venues and this one is too positive for them to pass by, "We can make sure the people are safe."
