Sansa's heart aches. Countless times she's imagined finally taking Winterfell back, and with the approaching battle it's finally within her reach.

But she never imagined it soot-stained with fire damage and lacking so many faces she's loved. She longs to see her mother and father walking the corridors, hear Arya's laughter in the great hall. She spent her childhood thinking Robb would be Lord of Winterfell one day and she'll never see his face again.

It hurts. But it also strengthens her resolve to see this through. There's so much she can't get back, but Winterfell is something she and Jon can reclaim.

She rides toward Winterfell with reinforcements at her back, the might of the Vale, and the stops they take are few. She imagines this will be their last before they find the battle. She knows the men -- and their horses -- need to be a good condition to fight when they get there and she tries not to let the impatience that gnaws at her chest consume her entirely. She's grateful to have the loyalty of the Vale and with luck they won't be too late to help Jon's effort.

Wanting to clear her head, she walks ahead a bit, the eyes of her guards never straying far from her. She pulls the hood of her cloak up more, shielding her face against the cold wind, and as she crests a hill she stops abruptly to watch a small group of wolves walking through the snow. She's quiet, cautious, but... seeing them feels like a good omen.

It makes her feel like maybe the pack will survive.

One of the wolves - a large, deep black one - stops when he sees her eyes on them. Stops and turns to watch them, consider the woman and then consider the guards following her. There's no fear in his stance nor any intent to attack, simply curiosity, a quiet deliberation - what do they bring?

The other wolves eventually notice and stop as well a little distance away, watching him watch them. One returns to his side to check what's so interesting - his eldest daughter. He'd always wanted children, a family. Never expected to get either once things had really started to go downhill - he'd known that he was doomed. But life works in mysterious ways, it seems, and instead of dying a shameful death he ended up here. Wandered through unfamiliar woods for a long time, not knowing how to approach the humans around with his funny clothes and strange language... And in the end went the other route. Life does work in mysterious ways, and now he's lived as a wolf for long enough that there's a pack. None of his children are, from what he can tell, werewolves themselves, which is just logical - a child needs werewolf blood from both sides to be born one themselves, and he is getting the feeling that there are no werewolves around here.

Was getting that feeling, still thinks so. But the longer he looks at this woman... There is something about her. Something undefined. He can't put his finger on it. But there's something there. She's not Garou. Perhaps Kinfolk? That would be an interesting turn of events... Not that she's really safe to approach for investigation right now. Not with all those armed people in her back who would probably not take kindly to an approaching wolf. But intriguing nonetheless.
