01] Romantic | You waited and waited and waited for the right moment to take this final step with your partner, and it really paid off; neither of you can imagine this night (or day!) to be any better than it is right now.

02] The Only Time | You know somewhere in your heart that you won't be getting a second chance for this. The relationship is forbidden, or they're moving away, or you're moving away, or something is tearing this relationship apart, and that may be the last thing you want.

03] Set-Up | ... Oh. Well. Someone nudged you and this other person together, the one that you may have loved or hated or been friends with your entire life. It isn't completely by choice, but it doesn't sound like that bad of an idea... Or maybe it does. Who knows?

( Dimitri was used to the intensity of how he felt things throughout his life. And perhaps a part of him had known that even after five years, what he felt for Claude was never going to change. Perhaps in a different lifetime that hadn't been ruined by Edelgard, they could have been something proper. As it was...

This is all they had. All they would ever have.

For the first time in years, he felt something. Something that was burning fury and a thirst for vengeance and justice. It was replaced by an overwhelming need that threatened to tear down the bit of sanity and focus he'd found after the most recent battle, after the loss of another loved one, and the the Professor's words.

The second they were alone, Dimitri's hands were on Claude. He reached out, hands cradling the other's face as he pressed their lips together - hard, bordering on desperate, but still nowhere near his full strength. )

[ as irony would have it, claude leads dimitri away from the infirmary where he’s been treated for a wound inflicted by one king to be. it had been a deep gash in his shoulder, running nearly to the bone, and he’d considered himself lucky for coming out alive. even still...

claude knows the bloodlust in dimitri’s eyes is a part of him that claude had never been intended to see. that anger, that hatred wasn’t for him. it wasn’t for the alliance, or for almayra, but just for those he’d lost. he understands it, now. faerghus seems a terrible place, built on glorifying violence and anger, and he supposes it’s only natural their king wind up in this state.

claude leads dimitri down the now quiet, empty hallways of garreg mach, down the stairs, where they might find themselves in the second level dorms, and claude intends to take him to where his old room used to be. the view of the pond is stunning, and the moon reflected in it is even more so.

claude gently closes the door behind dimitri, unwinding the wrap from his forehead and placing it on the desk with care. he carries every intent to start a conversation, casual but relaxing, and he’s barely managed to inhale when dimitri is— is kissing him— and.. oh, oh wow. okay. this is better than talking. much better.

claude parts after only a moment, already breathless with his cheeks beginning to pink, and he slides up to sit on the edge of the desk in his room. one hand tugs dimitri closer, between his knees, and his hands slide under the large cloak he wears around his shoulders. ]

is this how you greet all sovereign dukes after an important battle? because i’m starting to feel important, and we can’t have that.
