The plan was to say something about it exactly never. Crowley's heart is never going to be anyone else's - human dalliances are fun enough but low on emotional investment by their nature, other demons are right out, and other angels would be even worse - and that was all the more reason for him to never mention it and scare Aziraphale off, or put them both in danger. Or both. Both is good awful.

But then their little oyster date in Rome... rather got away from them both. Not that Crowley knew they'd both been sitting on it; he'd panicked and fled the next morning, and they didn't talk about it for a while (not until Wessex, where it became apparent they couldn't very well pretend Rome never happened, nor did either of them really want to).

Somehow, neither of them has been called on it to date, but that's just all the more reason to stay discreet. The pretense of business is a very, very useful one. Besides, they can explain away time spent together as time spent ensuring Wily Adversaries don't go about their business unthwarted, if it comes to that.

Mostly, it means that when Crowley might otherwise drop Aziraphale off at the bookshop and then go about his own business, he goes in as well. It means that where they'd otherwise be keeping some physical distance even in relative privacy, they're more likely to lean on each other and take comfort from proximity. It also means Crowley generally doesn't bother with the sunglasses in the shop.

Armageddon isn't breathing down their necks just yet; that's a problem for the future. For now, Crowley's going to milk this for all it's worth.

[The house is quiet. If Elio had to guess, he would say dawn is about to break in an hour, but he can't seem to fall back asleep even with the comforting pattering of warm summer rain outside his window. Beside him, he can hear the slow, deep breathing that means Oliver is likely dreaming, and all he can think about is how every minute spent asleep is another minute wasted, when they could be doing something together. They only have days left, if but a week. He's trying his hardest not to think about it and failing miserably, as one does with obsessive, upsetting realities.

He stares up at the ceiling for what feels like hours before finally deciding to be the jerk who wakes the other man up, rolling over until he can carefully wrap an arm around his waist and nudge his nose up under Oliver's ear.]

Elio... [He coaxes quietly, curling up at the man's back as he repeats the name. A kiss presses to his shoulder before Elio smushes his cheek there instead, his voice still quiet in the dark:] What are you dreaming about?
