The premise of the meme is simple. Two characters, lovers, have been separated for a time. How long is up to you, as is the reason for the separation. Was it unwilling - an imprisonment, a required journey - or because of a choice one of the characters made? The reason may, of course, color the reunion, and somebody may be pretty miffed, with good reason. Still, the theme is the same: intimacy after being apart.
This meme is mostly geared towards being a smut meme, but nobody will judge you for just doing so heavy fluff.
Many years had passed since Sam Gamgee had seen his beloved Mr Frodo off to the undying lands. It hadn't been easy to let him go, but neither would it have been easy to say goodbye to middle Earth, and Rosie, or their dear, sweet baby girl. Only the promise that once day he, too, would sail into the west kept his heart from being utterly torn in two.
Finally, that day had come, and though he was an old man--an old, old hobbit--now, he felt as if he were growing younger the closer he got to that far, green shore.
"I'm here, Mr Frodo," he called out with youthful vigor as the ship pulled into port. "I've come to you, at long last!"
It's been too long. Far, far too long. Commander Tali'zorah vas Normandy had proudly taken the name of her Starfleet vessel. She was the first Quarian officer in Starfleet, after all and despite her people's insular reputation it had also made her people back home in the migrant fleet proud. She was an example, someone to point to when someone talked about the Geth as filthy scavengers, pirates, or worse.
See? they could say We're members of the Federation, our sons and daughters are in the Starfleet. Tali'zorah is one of the finest engineers they have!
And yet the time wandering the stars had seemed lonely and cold, even to one born among them. The USS Normandy had departed on a three-year mission to deep space under the command of Captain Shepard, exploring the unknown fringes beyond the borders of the Federation, seeking out new life, new civilizations and new stars which would be charted and added to the maps, new worlds carefully categorized for their suitability for habitation. And now, finally... Finally she had entered Earth's orbit for a welcome refit and for a chance for the crew to have well deserved shore leave. Many (most) of them were human and would be headed to the Earth's surface to see friends, family, and others for the first time.
Unlike them, Tali's family was far away, roaming the space lanes as they always did in search of a new home. She could not hope to travel to them and return in the time she had. And so she would stay here, on Earth, surrounded by aliens, and make the best of the time she had.
There was of course one person that Tali'zorah wanted to look up. One person that she had missed and could hope for a chance to see now that she was back on Earth. Which was why she had arrived unannounced and unasked for at the door to a small San Francisco apartment--the kind of place kept by Starfleet officers who cared more for their life among the stars than for their place on the terra firma of their homeworld. Planetary gravity still felt strange to Tali, so used was she to the hum of engines and the artificial corridors of starships.
But this was where home was. As much as anyplace could be called home. Tali pressed the door chime and waited, refusing to fidget the way she might have as a cadet. And even then when the door opened, the smile behind her helmet was evident in her voice.
"...I'm lucky I caught you here," was all she said, her voice quiet and excited and bubbling with half-repressed joy. She wanted to spring into Jim's arms and hold him close. But she waited. Or tried to wait.
"I thought you and the Enterprise would be far away from here by now."
[M/F but OTA for castmates; AUs, canon, crosscanon and assumed CR (of course) all welcome. Probably the one being returned to. Although could probably swing it the other way depending on the situation.]
Assignments, missions, they vary in length. Days, weeks. Very rarely longer than that -- at least now that Runaan is leading them, for the most part. It's as if he takes a personal offense to anything lasting longer than absolutely necessary. Get in, do the job, get out before anyone even realizes something is amiss, and be gone like fading moonlight.
But sometimes, you can't plan for everything. You can't ensure immediate success. Nine times out of ten, he can, he will. The tenth time, though... the tenth time, their information was faulty. Nothing they can't handle. Nothing that will impede their progress, or will potentially cost the group their lives. It just requires more observation than he, or anyone else, wanted it to.
So...
It's been over a month. Of course they couldn't send word -- for fear it might be discovered. That they might be discovered.
To say Runaan is relieved to come within sight of their home is an understatement. It's dark, because of course it is, that's the best time for travel. The group is quick to disperse as they enter Silvergrove. No need to debrief, they've had time on the trek homeward. But still, he waits until he can see them all off before making his own way.
Making his way to Ethari -- and the thought makes his heart skip a few beats in the process. Hopefully, the other is in his workshop... otherwise he's going to scour the entire settlement.
Has he ever been this excited to see another living thing? It's doubtful.
