[ the first time that it happens, Xue Yang isn't sure if it is actual kindness or pity that motivates the other to act in the way that he does, and really that is the only thing that keeps Xue Yang from lashing out when he finds an umbrella over his head in the middle of a stormy afternoon. he doesn't need pity, certainly not from strangers, but the way that the other man smiles, wide and horrifyingly cheerful, makes him pause and just accept the offering with nothing more than a narrowed gaze and mumbled words of what might have been thanks if you could decipher them.

it isn't the last time that Xue Yang receives kindness from him though, and after the third time, Xue Yang starts to pay more attention. realizes that the man is a little reckless and a lot outgoing and one of the only people he has come across in this godforsaken city that seems to have an actual personality. kind of stupid though, not in the way that Xue Yang expects though, he is just-- he leaves himself wide open, doesn't care who he offends with his words or his actions.

somehow, Xue Yang comes to be endeared by that.

which is why when he wakes up on a couch that he certainly didn't fall asleep on with bandages wrapped around his shoulder, a headache from hell, and a familiar voice coming from somewhere near by, he doesn't immediately freak out and try to bolt. (honestly, from the state of him right now, he isn't so sure that would go well for him, just sitting up makes the room spin horribly.)]
