(ooc | A painfully shy jester who catches the attention of the king. For this meme, we can AU the ending and have Gong-gil becoming an official consort who has his own guard when out and about. New CR will see a shy man who barely speaks but will open up over time. Assumed CR will find someone who feels deeply for those he's close to and loves to entertain. It would be a forbidden relationship considering his association with the emperor.

A new face wasn't exactly a new thing when it came to the servants of the imperial court. Officials came and went, consorts rose and fell, a new generation came to shadow the old... But every so often there was a new face that changed the court in some subtle way. A tribute prince or princess requiring a different level of protection than usual as they had to be kept apart from the usual harem, yet didn't have the property or means to provide their own safe keeping. It was normal to gather a small set of basic servants to support a basic mansion: steward, housekeeper, cook, maids, guards, a primary physician from the imperial doctors...
When the young man was led into the courtyard, the entire staff was assembled to greet their new master and pass his approval. Sometimes maids were switched out for being too pretty or too plain, other times a guard caught a young lady's interest and had to be discreetly reassigned. Each of the head servants was introduced by name of course, the maids and guards all had their uniforms as did the imperial doctor. The only one not uniformed or introduced happened to be the veiled young woman standing next to the doctor wearing a dress that would be in the travel chest of any rich merchant's daughter.
YunXi was probably just as comfortable with the whole formal introduction as the new master of the house seemed to be but it took one to know one. She at least wasn't the center of attention and had her veil, so she took a few chances to shoot him encouraging glances behind her father's back. Most of the group would leave once the formalities were over but YunXi wouldn't be one of them. It was only a matter of time before the emperor's attention caused the sound of poison vials getting popped open in back rooms. She actually had a room at the back of the house and official free access to the imperial medical ward and garden.

(Open to canon and cross. Can make either role work and she'll probably be reluctant at first either way. Also open to both characters acting as bodyguards to an npc and priorities shifting as they start to suffer from feelings.)

[ Crosscanon/heavy auing/assumed cr to most extents = A-OK. Spitballing ideas below, but there's probably better I'm not thinking of and I'm all ears.
Guarded:
-- I mean right out of canon there's the fear of witches dying out, and 'muscle' type employees are seen at least the once or twice; either in 'fear of' or 'no we're really just down to like four whole witches, yikes' stage they could be more heavily applied. One stuck trailing Misty around when she decides she'd rather not stick around but there's already been an assassination attempt would be fun. Witch hunters and zealots abound, and she's mildly offended as much as she is grateful.
-- [insert fantasy scenarios] long-lost royalesque something or other, witness to some important event the bodyguard would that proof to see avenged, merchant of political importance, so on, so forth. Generic fantasy, asoiaf, that whole umbrella.
-- Worlds/plots/environments where her resurgence (or magic, altogether) is dangerous enough or in high enough demand a bodyguard is sort of a professional move on her own part or that of a third party she works with/for.
-- Accidental summoning fuckery of any flavor, pretty much.

-- She literally just met you but has been profoundly moved by your quest for justice and/or vengeance, consequently she'll be lending a hand whether it's immediately necessary or not.
-- A more nature guide flavor, in which she's guiding you through (and ensuring you don't die from) a particularly hostile natural environment. Spooky woods, dodgy swamps, menacing mountains, the works.
-- Fantasy-leaning or no, ones in which she divines you are Important To Something Significant In Some Way, and feels obligated to whatever nebulous greater good drives her when nothing else will to be sure you're alive and unharmed until your ~destiny~ comes to pass.
-- Or it's a legitimate profession for her! Magic schooling specifically as it applies to defense and healing of a charge, one contract at a time. (Or, rather than so proactive a role, she's instead just supposed to hover around a given person of importance to restore them in the event they're seriously injured/killed.)

[ when she got the call and had accepted it, wasting precious gas when prices were through the roof because trump was fucking around with iran and surrounding areas, chloe wasn’t expecting to have to drive all the way across LA to end up somewhere that felt like she was in the middle of nowhere. parked outside of what looked like an abandoned warehouse with a metal roof missing sections and a quarter of it collapsed. how in the hell was this thing still even up? and why the fuck was the lieutenant requesting, quite insistently in fact, that she accept this? christ, some days she wasn’t sure with him. he was due retirement regardless, what did she care?
pushing out a forceful sigh, she sat behind the wheel and waited. no one was coming out. her vehicle was the only one visible, that she could see anyway. chloe drummed her fingers against the top of the steering wheel for a moment and then reached for her radio. the conversation was short and to the point; her hesitation, the fact that she was having doubts, none of it was reaching him. on top of that, he was refusing to send back up. real classy. a real fucking piece of work. the radio was slammed down and she checked her glock, checked over the ammunition and the extra in stock at the inside of her jacket.
well. she had a call to answer. chloe still wasn’t sure if this was a distress or courtesy call, either, which was ridiculous, the fact that she was practically going in blind. ]
I can’t believe this, [ muttered, sliding out of the car. she bumped the door shut with her hip, holster unclipped, hand hovering at the ready above her gun in case she needed to quickly grab it out. what was it that han solo said back in the day? oh, right—i have a bad feeling about this. with chloe, her gut instinct was always true and on point.
this entire set up was sketchy, made the hair on the back of her neck stand up. still, her steps were careful and precise, slow moving as she made calculated sweeps over the area and at her surroundings. surely whoever was inside would’ve heard her car approach. so then why weren’t they meeting her outside? had something happened that made it so they couldn’t? fuck, she should’ve grabbed the shotgun from her trunk and slung it along for the ride.
it’s not until she’s reaching the door, the outer bars hanging crooked off the top hinge, that she stops. whatever—whoever—is inside obviously doesn’t give two shits. she should turn around, leave them. they got themselves here then they can just as easily find their own way back. well...here goes...
a hand reaches for the outside door to carefully ease it aside and then she’s trying the inside door, which is made of thicker metal, heavier. rusted and coated in sand blown in over the years. she makes a face, turns sideways, and braces as she’s shoulder checking it. it gives way easily enough and she staggers on through with an arm raised over her mouth, coughing at the dust disturbed through the air. ]

[ she dares then to call out, standing still to hear how her own voice carries. adrenaline is making her heart pump harder, faster. it’s all she hears, like a rush of blood in her ears. chloe wets her lips, feels grit and tastes sand on her tongue, and she spits to the side as she moves forward. ] LAPD—you apparently made a call?
