Grooming is an important part of many species' rituals. It keeps them clean, healthy, and content. And a good bath? It can change the whole tone of a day from terrible to relaxed and blissful. But nudity is sometimes viewed as a weakness - and it is almost always sexualized - so bathing is often kept a private matter. If you do share these moments with someone, they're almost always a significant other or a sexual partner. Like you're doing now. This resort is... it's not private, exactly. But it is reserved, and while the local hot springs are an attraction for the area, this particular bath and this particular inn is both hard to find and rather remote. Thus, it's rare that two parties of any size might end up there at a certain point.

This happens to be such a rare occasion, and that is why Jacobi might see a handsome enough man with a certain bird-like awkwardness on the ground peering thoughtfully at the bath as if he's trying to ascertain the rules here. It's rare that he encounters others at the time of day (or night) he likes. And he knows theoretically that everyone is welcome to the baths, that they are made to share.

But theoretically and reality are seldom the same thing, which is why he peeks around a dividing screen.

( the human world rises and falls. he is attached to it, as much as he is to anything, but he's too old by half to think that his taking up a sword and shield will change the outcome of the apocalypse.

selkies are still fae. for all ian looks human, he hasn't forgotten that.

but he's an oddity among them, the selkie trapped in human form. his skin is at the bottom of the atlantic, and he too frail in this form to brave the crushing depths. even if he knew where, exactly, it was, he's been too long from the world to have any favors to call in. but the ocean is a mighty big place. he could search lifetimes and never find it.

he knows it still exists out there in the wreckage of the world because otherwise he'd be dead.

but he does still love the water. it's as air and sky to him, and it's rare he's far from it.

this place is quiet, known to him from the days of old when it knew another name — the hebrides. it has a fae name, but he rarely bothers to speak it aloud. it's not defiance, exactly, so much as indifference. he's older than most things that walk this new world, and he's set in ways much older than them.

the water is warm, pleasant and bubbling. the air smells faintly of sulphur, which is the only indication it is so due to volcanic activity far, far below them. he watches the little human-looking creature come out of the dark nearby looking like nothing else so much as a spooked shadow, pale and wispy, stamped forever with humanity enough to shame him. )
