The Master/Familiar Love Meme

"In European folklore and folk-belief of the Medieval and Early Modern periods, familiar spirits (sometimes referred to simply as 'familiars') were supernatural entities believed to assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic. According to the records of the time, they would appear in numerous guises, often as an animal, but also at times as a human or humanoid figure, and were described as 'clearly defined, three-dimensional… forms, vivid with colour and animated with movement and sound' by those alleging to have come into contact with them, unlike later descriptions of ghosts with their 'smoky, undefined form[s]'."
Everybody needs a sidekick. This includes those who may have a little help of their own in the form of magic - witches, warlocks, mages, sages, casters, magicians...whatever you want to call them, they have a bit more juice than your average Joe. Luckily, the job comes with a built-in assistant: a familiar, or a helper spirit. The familiar serves as a guide to their magical "Master" of their choice, helping them out of tight spots and being their companion for life. Sometimes, they come in the form of animals, like dogs and especially cats. Some don't bother with this, though, and just stay in their true humanoid forms. The bond between familiar and master is one of intensity, and they know each other completely. Most familiars even have a telepathic link to their masters. That helps them keep an eye on them. Of course, given this closeness-beyond-closeness, it's easy to imagine a master and familiar as soulmates, and with familiars having a human form...well, intimacy seems like a natural option.
Too bad relationships of that kind between master and familiar are strictly forbidden. Surely, that rule is always followed.
HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character, stating your preferences (ex: F/M, open to all, etc). Also, be sure to remember and put whether your character will be witch/master, familiar, or if they can serve as both. There is no "set" type for any of the roles. Masters don't have to be dominate (ineffectual witches have always been a cute trope), familiars aren't passive or submissive, and so on. It's not the same as BDSM...though your character could bring that into it if they'd like.
- Comment around to other characters, playing out your forbidden master/familiar ~love~ or what have you.
PROMPTS
- The Familiar Chooses the Master: The first meeting. You may be new to the craft (or someone who needs a new familiar), and someone has been drawn to you.
- Setting the Ground Rules: You need to figure out how this is going to work. Where can you hide this woman/man in your apartment, if need be?
- Getting to Know You: Magic/power isn't all fun and games. You need to find out how to work together so you don't accidentally blow everything up in your faces.
- Helping Out: Familiars have a lot of neat powers that can be a boon around the house...and around the town.
- Danger Zone: Your feelings for each other are blurring, which is a big no-no. Do you even realize that the bond is deepening to a new level?
- Confession: Things have gotten heavy and you have to let your bond mate know you see them as more.
- Bad Romance: The familiar in this relationship isn't treated as equal. They're a slave to their master!
- Telepathy: The mental bond between. Explore it or use it to get out of trouble...
- Trouble is a Friend of Mine: Speaking of! Your familiar/master is danger, and there's nothing that can keep you from saving them.
- Intimacy: The obligatory smut option. Though romance between familiar and master is not allowed, many find the allure too much, and the bond does lend itself to members seeking comfort in each other. After all, they know you better than anyone else.
- You're Taken?: You're in love with a master or a familiar...they're just not yours. Oops! Maybe you can find some way to break your bonds so you can be together.
- Breaking Up is Hard to Do: It is hard, especially between master and familiar. In fact, it can be downright painful...physically and mentally!
- Sending You Away for Your Own Good: You're distancing yourself from the other member of your bond, and it's because you're headed towards destruction.
- Everybody Knows: The other members of your community have found out you've broken the ultimate taboo and are WITH your master/familiar. This is bad. This is very, very bad. Punishment bad. Separation bad. Perhaps even death bad.
- Happy Ending: Somehow, you've escaped the confines of the world that doesn't understand, and you're able to live together without fear.

And well, considering that Jeile's best friend is a fairy and his steed is an unicorn, I think dragon will fit the theme he have going on. Not to mention how well dragon and royalty fit together.]
no subject
Anyway, a dragon sounds good! Do you want to start since you have a better idea what Jeile'd be up to? We could jump in at them trying to figure this familiar thing out together and Kiri doesn't quite get why there are certain things his human can do but he can't (at least not as a dragon. like riding that cool-looking unicorn too)]
no subject
Think this will be a good place to spend a few days?
[They had entered a clearing in the woods, with a small stream running through it. Jeile had decided that it would be for the best to take some time to get to know his new familiar before he brought a dragon with him home to the royal castle. The court were kind of used to his strange decisions, by this point, but he still should be able to say more upon returning then that he had a dragon now and knew next to nothing about him.]

[Kirishima tilts his head in question and blinks belatedly as he realizes that he was expected to offer an answer, not ask even more.
He pulls his head back and ruffles the spikes around his ears as he pretends to look around the clearing.]
Hmm, I'd say so. If that's what you want.
[Aaaand another foot in mouth, great! He digs his claws into the earth and struggles hard to not let any outward sign show that he was mentally kicking himself. So much to being the ideal familiar! Being picky and bossy sure are a good way to not make this human not regret taking him on... The clearing isn't even that bad!
He walks in a slow circle onto and around the clearing, taking it all in and making sure that it'll be safe before he sits down on his haunches. Best to not beat around the bush with his real question.]
We're not going to your castle yet? If it's too far I could carry both you and your horse.
[and maybe it's because he's a dragon, but having a place to call home that is a whole freaking castle that comes with its lands is sounding like a really nice prospect. There'll be delicious food. Soft fabrics to sleep on and lots of fascinating humans to spoil him. Maybe they'll even eventually learn not to fear him... ]

I know it is a far cry from home, but it will only be for a day or two.
[Depending on how long it would take for them to familiarise themselves with one another.
Dismounting from his steed, Jeile let the unicorn wander off on its own, knowing it would not stray far and come whenever he called for it.]
It is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I did not tell that I headed out intending to get myself a familiar.
[And he picked a dragon of all things. There would be so much to take care of and explain once he got back home. First off, he was seen as too young to get himself a familiar, and again, dragon. Jeile saw no problem with his choice, but he knew others would.]
I simply think it is best that we avoid that mess for now. I don't want to sourer this relationship with forcing you to deal with the scrutiny from the court right away.
no subject
[Respect what he's capable to do, sure, that's alright. But he's sick of people running for their lives just because he's passing by. Humans don't even taste good!
Taking in Jeile's confession he thinks for a moment.]
In other words, we're in trouble.
no subject
[Jeile wasn't afraid of Kirishima. Humans tended to so easily fear dragons. Big and powerful and dangerous. Well anything could be dangerous if angered or frightened and he was not going to judge based on rumours and old stories meant to scare children.
Stepping closer to the dragon, despite the displeased neigh from his steed, he held out a hand and gave a warm smile.]
I do not fear you, and while I can't make any promises for others, I hope that they will see that there is no need to fear you.
no subject
For once he was inclined to ignore the unicorn as he started at Jeile's hand, wondering if he was hurt and showing his weakness as a sign of trust. Then he remembers human customs and perks up.][A front paw is pushed into Jeile's hand in an attempt to shake it. Or give hand like a dog.]
no subject
Let this be the start of a great bond.
[He shook the dragon's paw, the gesture a bit awkward with their differences in anatomy, but it passed well enough as a handshake.]

[Oh for sure that sounds awesome]
sorry for the wait! open to the positive prompts if you want to a specific one, or free-form is fine
So he practices. He waits for Stiles to leave him to do it, just in case things go terribly wrong. The last thing he needs is to get performance anxiety and end up looking hideous, or worse, somehow damaging himself. In the end, he gets the hang of it while Stiles is out running errands—but he can't change back. He's gone to such lengths to figure out how to become a human that he can't remember how to turn back into a spider.
Glancing around the bedroom, he tries to find something clean to cover himself with, keenly aware that he's naked. Clothes. He should have conjured up some clothes. ]
No worries! Cool to just roll with it :)
[When Stiles was younger, he'd always hoped his familiar would be something big and dramatic, like a wolf or a lion, or maybe something classic and ominous like a raven. Instead he'd ended up with a particularly fuzzy little spider. He never admitted to his disappointment at the time, but he'd thought it was just his luck that he'd end up with something so unimpressive.
These days he felt pretty guilty for ever feeling that, because actually that little spider was an excellent familiar and Stiles wouldn't trade him for all the wolves or lions or ravens in the world. They made a really good team, and Stiles was glad his familiar wasn't something so cliché.
Stiles know he's up to something, though, he's been acting a little shifty lately and Stiles is worried he's trying to do something dangerous. It means he runs his errands as quickly as possible so he can try and get back to the house before anything terrible happens.
What he absolutely isn't expecting is to walk into his bedroom to find a naked young man in there.]
Woah!
[He throws his hands up over his eyes]
You have thirty seconds to explain who you are and what you're doing here, naked, before I hex the shit out of you.
no subject
You'll hurt yourself! [ Once he says it, it sounds like a defense tactic of some kind. Without explaining who he is, there's no reason for Stiles to think of him as his familiar and thus weigh the side effects of hexing his bonded partner. ] It's me. Your spider. Familiar. I changed forms but forgot about clothes!
no subject
What?
[Stiles drops the hand in front of his eyes to stare at the guy (though he's resolutely staring at his face) because why would trying to hurt him end up hurting Stiles?
The explanation is not far behind the assertion and his eyes widen]
You... you're... my...
Prove it.
[He's kind of suspicious by nature, and while there's something about the guy that Stiles can just sense that makes him think he's telling the truth, he doesn't want to risk it without some kind of evidence.]
no subject
With no incoming hexes, Peter thinks he's in the clear. He's about to sigh in relief when Stiles shows off his intelligence by asking for proof of his claim. Peter can't help smiling at that, proud of his master for having good common sense, but then he's hit with the dilemma of how to prove himself. ]
Uh.
[ With all the information he has about Stiles, he suddenly struggles to pinpoint one tidbit to fit the bill. There was plenty that he assumed strangers could easily find out about Stiles—his favorite color, hobbies, even his real name despite the fact that he never used it.
Chewing his bottom lip—a weird body part to have, but he enjoyed the sensation—Peter sat down on the edge of the bed while he thought. ]
The first spell we did together was a protection ward on your dad's house. The second one was Scott's house. You haven't used magic on the Jeep because you don't want to change anything about it, even if there's more duct tape under the hood than is actually safe.
no subject
It's totally safe, I-
[He stops himself before he falls into the familiar argument, and he looks shocked, because yea, that's definitely enough information that Stiles actually believes him. This is his familiar, his friendly, fuzzy little spider only he's... not any more. He's a person]
It really is you...
[He's torn between being amazed and confused, because that's an impressive bit of magic that Stiles had no idea he could actually do, but also he doesn't know why he did it. It only takes a moment of deliberation before he decides, to hell with it, he's pretty proud.]
This is amazing, how long have you been trying to do this?
no subject
Puffing up a little in pride, he scrabbles for the sheet covering him when it threatens to slip off his lap. He still needs clothes, but at least Stiles isn't so against the look of him that he's throwing every garment he owns at the familiar. He'd been hoping he'd turn out as an attractive human, so he'll take this as a small win. ] Oh, um, a couple of weeks. I've never tried it before. I mean, I knew it was possible because other familiars do it, but I've never been taught how to! So I've been practicing while you were out, but then I got stuck like this because I've never, you know, turned into a spider either. I just was a spider. Before that, I don't remember what I was.
no subject
If I'd known you wanted to I would have tried to help [he feels kind of bad that he didn't know about this, but he also doesn't want to drag Peter down about this so he brightens up quickly enough]
But if this was a surprise then, dude, I mean, it's a pretty awesome surprise. You're a real live person, that's- wait. You can't turn back?
[He frowns a little, it's not that he wants Peter to turn back right away, but it's probably not a good thing that he's stuck like that]
Okay, well, let's... oh, let's get you some clothes because you're kind of distracting, and then we can figure it out together. This is still really cool, though.
no subject
[ He rubs a hand on the back of his neck and then doesn't stop because his skin is so soft and his hair is so fluffy. It's going to take some getting use to his new body and discovering all of its details.
Despite how incredible his physical manifestation is feeling, his emotions are a rollercoaster as Stiles rides a wave of what sounds like pride and then maybe some concern immediately following. Peter's head is going to be spinning for a while. ]
Distracting? [ His cheeks heat with a blush, both embarrassed and a little flustered that Stiles might be looking at his naked body. ] Sorry, master, I swear I didn't mean to be!
no subject
Hey, come on, I don't think you could ever disappoint me.
[He means it, he's always thought the two of them make a great team and even when they mess up, they always figure it out eventually, or they learn something from it, he's not surprised Peter managed this, even all by himself.
Master, it all seemed so normal and innocent when Peter's a spider but suddenly he's a good looking guy who's blushing adorably and who's completely naked, being called master by him is making Stiles blush in turn, so he turns hastily to his drawers and starts dragging out clothes]
It's okay, don't worry about it. Look I'm still really proud of you, you're just... people need clothes, right?
no subject
Standing up from the bed, he crosses the room to stand behind Stiles. Normally, as a spider, he might just crawl up to nestle against the crook of his master's neck, but as it is, he reaches out to put a hand on his shoulder. ]
Are you sure you're alright with it? I can start trying to change back right away. With you here, it probably wouldn't take too long!
no subject
[He only just manages to keep himself from flinching at the touch on his shoulder, though he immediately feels guilty for being so very jumpy about the whole thing. It's just... it's weird, he can't deny that, it's really cool but it's unexpected and it's thrown him for a loop and he isn't sure exactly how to handle it, only he's getting the impression that he's not handling it well.
He turns with some sweats and a t-shirt in hand and gives Peter an apologetic look]
No, no you don't have to do that. We'll figure out how to turn you back at some point and that's fine, but I'm not... there's nothing wrong with this. It's great, it's really great, okay? I promise. You know I wouldn't lie to you.
