Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a conscientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be.
The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapiens. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed.
Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human.
So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!
All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best.
However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to.
According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right.
Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child.
It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant.
Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet.
These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders.
Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions.
Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends.
Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans.
With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master! |

But at the heart of the matter: her heart. Loyal with every breath, she'll slog into hell for those she loves. A 'mangy mutt' is no exception. )

As an owner, she keeps a pet for company and tends to spoil them a bit. If they're horny they sure get away with humping her a lot, anyway!
Either way, looking for casual smut threads. Not necessarily "All sex, all the time" but it's common for her and her bond to spontaneously get it on for fun.]]

shelter is good
As a result of them being as common as they now were, overpopulation and strays quickly boomed and shelters sprang up to help keep them off the streets.
Elias had been looking for one for the latter needs. A cook mostly as he was horrible in the kitchen despite his best efforts, and using magic all the time to keep the house tidy or to cook was draining. He didn't want a new pet, he needed one that had some experience and wasn't being trained to be some sort of toy to be intimate with.
No one would want to be with him, he was too monstrous, and he'd never force himself upon anyone either. No, the bachelor life was one he was resigned to, with a pet who could use a home and could fulfill less carnal needs.
The volunteers at the shelter eyed him, mages were rare these days and one like him...well, he turned heads to be frank. But they showed him to the pets available for adoption.
"Nothing exotic. And needs to know how to cook." Elias said shortly as the staff asked what he was looking for in a pet, keeping the red veil over his face to minimize stares.

As another variation and a little darker, I'd also love something where pet people are rare (and thus only the province of rich people) and altered former humans. This would probably lean more sex only and kinky (bondage d/s, etc, we can discuss it).]

Some people buy pets to keep company, sexual pleasure or for showing off. Novelty pets such as wolves or lions were purchased by those who desired to not only show off their strength but also they could afford one.
Leanne.... She neither really had the money, power or experience to handle such a powerful pet. How she got her hands on a wolf was nothing short of a miracle. She owned a small cafe and a small house to which she let Eijirou roam free.
A mistake she learned a little too late as most breakable items were smashed everywhere and most food devoured. Her small world shattered there and it was then she realized just what she brought home.
Over the course of him staying with her, she learned what he liked to eat and made sure to keep his favorite food items well stocked to prevent him from eating her out of her house and cafe. She was overall a pushover towards him, not fully able to tell him no or to get out. He ruled the house it seems like and she was just an observer and the bringer of food.

He knew he was. He didn't wag his tail any time his human gave him her attention because he sometimes didn't feel like socializing with anybody. The toys he was being given never lasted long - either their novelty wore off as soon as he'd figured them out or they didn't even make it that long. Even though he was nothing more but a simple canine hybrid he was that strong that he broke a lot, even if he didn't mean to.
His first owner had never taught him how not to play rough back when he was a pup. That man had only laughed and encouraged him when he had seen the tiny pup effortlessly chew through furniture legs most adult pets would struggle with. Hunting urges were embraced and taught to him as a good thing, especially when his owner or one of his friends brought something for Kirishima to play with. He always liked hunting rabbits, but the bloody mess and the fact that they didn't move after the game had made him sad. His owner had liked it tough, up until the time where he had nicked one of his owners friends after he had grown too frustrated with their insistence that he should hunt what he recognized as a non-hybrid pet.
There had been a big mess with lots of blood on their hand even though he hadn't bitten hard, he had just gotten 'lucky' a bit. Even a rabbit with half a brain would have known not to pull their hand away in that direction after Kirishima's teeth had clamped down on it. In the end there had been a lot of loud shouts, the humans had rushed away and only his master had returned to see him after that for a long time. Kirishima was proud of himself though, because the non-prey pet had gotten away safe and fine. He'd done what was right and not become a mindless killer. He was being stupid but in his mind he had proven his worth once more to his owner, never noticing how the man had never looked at him in quite the same way as he had had 'at his grey' before.
He had noticed when he was getting less and less attention, though. Less socialization. Less grooming and less being told that he was good. That he was wanted. In the end it had even been less of a chance to just stretch his legs and move and run the way he wanted to, even though he had so much energy to burn.
.....he really should have seen what was coming and yet it still hit him like a lightning strike out of the blue sky when he was dropped off at that shelter without as much as a goodbye. That's when he had known for sure that he was bad. A bad dog. Bad pet. Not wanted.
It was in this darkest time of his life that a new owner had been brought. He knew that it was only his pitiful state that had appealed to her maternal instincts and made her take him in. His low prize (no shelter fees besides a minimal donation to help other pets upkeep) had definitely helped too.
Kirishima is no longer all gangly limbs and haunted eyes anymore. Leanne's care had let his fur grow thick and shining, allowed muscles to cover emaciated rips and had generally returned a glow into his eyes.
That's why he never tries to lash out at her.
He never means to break the furniture (well, most of the time. cookie jars are the work of the devil and need to be exercised!) It just keeps happening whenever he's hit with a spell of too much energy itching in his veins. The best way to appease those urges to run and do something are to run and train how to fight, which inevitably would end in him misjudging one of his hits or kicks and hit something with it. After the first couple of times he's grown too embarrassed of himself and too resentful of her uncomfortable looks in response to still bring it up. Instead he simply cleaned up behind himself when it was feasible and waited if it would be brought up. Each time it wasn't it cemented the idea that Leanne was just no leader deeper inside his mind. She was gentle and kind, and yeah, pretty too if a pet saying that about his owner was allowed, but somebody to take charge? Eijirou had to do it or they'd lose their territory real quick.
It's with that in mind that he studies the list of reservations for some gig at the cafe he's found and then cocks his head at her, as if asking for an explanation. "Here stands that you're inviting everybody to bring their pets. You sure that's a good idea?"
His ears prick up at the idea of others - dogs who might think they are the alpha, who might even give in and try to mark what's theirs - has his mane fluff up lightly and his tail swish back and forth in agitation. This is his second chance and Eijirou is going to fight anyone who's trying to take it from him!
