① fuck the police, this is the best time for a walk. hope you've got a nice thick coat on.

② stranded in the buttcrack of nowheresville? weren't you watching the time? now you've gone and missed that last bus out of there. or maybe you're lost, somehow. what do?

③ literally chilling, in this weather, is quite easy to do. sitting around relaxing in it is a wee more difficult, but sometimes much more enjoyable, especially if shelter can be found. the snow is beautiful to watch, after all.

④ the weather's not going to stop you. your snow fort's packed full of ammo and ready to go. those aren't snow angels over there; they mark where the poor souls you've downed have fallen. be careful with that snowman's head!!

⑤ you're about fifty miles from civilization but there's a roof over your head, so never mind the chilly draught, right? right. you mightn't be the only one lucky enough to stumble upon this little shelter, though. remember to share the blanket.

⑥ everyone stuck outside should be jelly. you've got a fireplace and hot cocoa and damn if it isn't awesome. a heater's not quite so romantic, but it'd do. there'd better be a backup generator in case the power trips.

"Head her off before she gets on the train."

Sherlock knows this from experience. Had this been London he would have known what alley was quicker and what was the best route to head her off. But then in London there were all sorts of tunnels to hide in.

He also knows it's probably not a good idea to alert her that she's being followed.

"I think we should follow her onto the train and see where she goes," Malcolm proposed as they moved through the crowd.

"That increases the chances of losing her. If this was London I'd take the alley round before the boarding entrance."

He sounds arrogant and annoyed.

"Well, it's not, so let's go," Malcolm tells him, stepping into the train just before the door closes and pulling Sherlock with him. He can see her hoodie just down the car and keeps half an eye there, turning the rest of his attention to his impromptu colleague. Malcolm himself had been known to wear the Arrogant Little Shit sword and shield and he recognized it in the other man.

"I take it knowing the city so well helps you a lot at home."

Sherlock nods absently, razor focus zeroing in on the . She's hiding, she's afraid, she knows something. Does she think him and Bright the enemy instead of an ally?

He moves forward, subtly. Keeping her in his sights. Despite his efforts and his appearance he doesn't blend in as a New Yorker at all, but no one seems to notice. The girl is breathing hard she's going to definitely try and run again. Probably at the next stop.

"You know, you're wound pretty tight. Have you tried therapy?" Malcolm asked.

He was also watching the girl, but looking like a coiled viper, ready to strike, was hardly going to put her at ease.
