The (Possibly Post-Apocalyptic) Homesteading Meme
The apocalypse is over, you’ve reached the new world, the colony ship has landed, the bunker has opened, your inheritance has been bequeathed. Wherever you came from, whatever horrors you’ve survived, you’re here now. You’ve made it, and this is going to be your new home. Finally, you’ve found a little patch of land that wasn’t destroyed, or you saved up enough pennies to buy a farm, or you found the perfect fortress to keep back the monstrous hordes outside.
1. We’ve Earned This - Maybe you fought for it, maybe you’re the only surviving humans, maybe you just saved your pennies from your soul-crushing desk job. Either way, you earned this new life, and your own piece of land. Now it’s time to make it a home.
2. Robinson Crusoe - No part of this was planned. But here you are, washed up on this foreign island or distant planet, and you have no choice but to survive. There’s no way to send a message, and no one’s coming to save you. You’re just going to have to use whatever you can salvage from the wreck to make this barren place into a livable home.
3. Hermits Do It Alone - Ever dreamed about just running away from it all? Now’s your chance. You’ve purchased a piece of land somewhere so far remote that you don’t have neighbors anywhere within miles. This is what you want. And yet… you’re not entirely alone. Maybe someone has shown up on your doorstep needing shelter, maybe you just got a new neighbor, or maybe you brought them along (willing or not).
4. Manifest Destiny - Welcome to the new world. Your colony ship has arrived, and whether you’re coming from another planet or just across the sea, this land is yours now. It’s your destiny. You might have to fight the natives for it, or maybe you’ve found somewhere so unappealing or undiscovered that you’ll only be fighting against the elements—and whatever strange new foreign infections reside here.
5. Manifest Zombies - Maybe your manifest destiny (and the zombies or monsters chasing you) has led you to an established settlement. They have safety and food, but they’re not willing to let you in. You’re going to have to prove your worth to them, or you’re going to have to take it.
6. Louisiana Purchase - Expand! Settle! Homestead! Your home country or planet has just made some valuable new territory acquisitions. They’re unoccupied, rich with resources, and going cheap. Pack your trowel and buy plenty of seeds, you’re going homesteading.
7. You, Me, and this Bunker - The apocalypse has come, but you were ready for it! You’ve got your bunker, your water filtration system, your underground crops, and a room full of unwatched DVDs. Get ready to play a whole lot of two-player games of cards, because the two of you are stuck in your new home until the half-life of the nuclear disaster above ticks down to manageable levels. So, probably not within your lifetime.
8. I Think We’re Alone Now - You had your bunker, and you survived. Maybe it’s been only a few months, or maybe you were born inside that bunker, a descendant of the original survivors. It’s safe to emerge at last, into the ruins of what was once our modern society. No one’s alive out there, unless you can find another survivor like yourself. But you can probably find a nice farm somewhere, raid some abandoned grocery stores, and plant some crops.
tl;dr - Farming, housemaking, homesteading. Possibly after the apocalypse or on a new planet. Or just because you want a farm.

She sees them by chance; Lee and the child following in his tracks. It brings back memories both good and painful. Elektra knows this is the ones she should join in order to hang onto her humanity so she follows them back to their compound. She tries to introduce herself, explaining plainly that she can survive easily, but would rather do it among others at this point, but it doesn't quite land. She's a strange, foreign woman in the eyes of the some of Lee's group. She can't disagree with that so she bargains with them. If she can prove her value to their community, she will be allowed to join them.
Elektra leaves without bothering to see if they accept her terms. She knows there is more than one child here given the small eyes peeking out of windows at her. They need providers regardless of who is doing it.
She disappears for ten days. No one would be blamed for thinking she perished in the harsh world they live in now. Elektra doesn't bother coming to the front gate like a beggar looking for scraps. She infiltrates their stronghold and goes directly to Lee, bags in hand and offers them to him. She knows a panic will take root the moment the others see her. She doesn't care. It's his approval she's after.]
Will you accept me? [She'll let him take the bags regardless of the answer. He'll soon see why it took so long: she managed to get clothing for Clementine along with canned food and bottled water. Clothes aren't easy to come by these days. She's hoping that alone will show her commitment.]

Except one night, well after dark, there's an eerie... howl? Are there wolves left, after it all? It doesn't sound exactly like a wolf, but it isn't the screams of the monsters, either. It's a lonely sound, no answering howls of a whole pack... just one cry, sounding a couple times for about an hour, moving from east to west.
The next morning, Misty will find paw prints on the edge of her property, making a simple perimeter around her fields and outer shed. Definitely looks like wolf tracks. What are you gonna do about it, Misty? Lay some traps? Lie in wait? Try to catch a glimpse of the mysterious furry visitor?

Up until she finds a guy with a metal arm, a face mask, and a shit-ton of guns passed out and quite possibly bleeding out in her barn, anyway.
It seemed like a good place to hide out after destroying a hidden HYDRA lab a couple miles away, and his wounds were a little worse than anticipated at first glance, and now he's kind of unconscious. Oops.

SO sunny is a single dad to a literal infant in canon but we can say he isn't if you'd rather
[ But it's obvious he did, if the blood spatter on his clothing is any indication. Sunny feels a little bad about all the shirts he's ruined; it's not exactly easy to find some decent clothes in this world, hilariously enough, albeit not as difficult as it is to find a fucking house.
He's not sure yet whether to call this place home, rundown thing that it is. The floors creak and they haven't yet cleared the refrigerator of what'd rotted inside, and the fence around the land they'd secured isn't completed, and Sunny's still trying to figure out the issue of running water, and there're all sorts of things that're still wrong. But it is something, he thinks, against the hopelessness of everything else. And it's far enough away from the more populated areas that it gives this illusion of safety.
He's got a backpack and a gasoline container. The former is the first thing he puts down on the living room table, and the other is shook to emphasise its contents. ] I think I might be able to get the generator running. [ He sounds sort of proud when he says it, but Sunny takes what victories he can get. He's lost a lot in the end of the world, as everyone has; frankly, if he didn't have anyone to take care of and protect, chances are he would've simply given up without a purpose to live.
In any case, it feels right to keep on going, even if it's for little things like siphoning enough gasoline to have electricity for a little while. He'll probably have to work on it tomorrow, though, given the sky's already begun to change with the colours of sunset. Sunny only hopes Simon doesn't mind. ]
