It wasn't a surprise.

...but this time he didn't chase him. There was no reason to.

Sasuke was like a cat. He needed to wander, needed space, needed to be able to come and go as he pleased...as he needed.

He said he needed to.

And Naruto let him go. He hated it. But he let him go.

He hated knowing he was gone. He hated waiting for him to come back. He hated catching sight of a head of dark hair and hoping it was him. He hated going home alone knowing he couldn't just sneak out in the middle of the night when the rest of the village was sleeping to bother him because he knew he was awake.

He hated waiting up in hopes that he would sneak in his window and try to murder him for something stupid like...leaving another cat at his place. Or leaving his couch a mess when he snuck in for a nap since no one would assume he was there.

It had been months of this.

Now, he was sprawled out in his own bed (probably snoring), exhausted and with two cats asleep on the spare pillow because they insisted on following him home. ]

[I love The Haunting of Hill House series. Somehow I think Luke and Vanya could be a genuinely good couple. They both had terrible childhoods and blame their fathers for it, and thanks to their families they're living in the aftermath of being semi-famous and/or notorious, both deal with negative self-talk and they're pariahs in their own families.

Vanya would believe Luke if he said he saw ghosts because her brother Klaus can do it too. She is dependent upon anti-depressants to suppress feelings of the history of childhood of neglect and abuse from Sir Reginald and uses her violin as a way to achieve a living but also escape confronting many of her unresolved childhood traumas much the same way Luke uses drugs.

She would be one of the most ardent champions for Luke to go to rehab, get clean, and then come back to Vanya's place to stay clean and give their relationship a real chance to work. A clean Luke could be a good support for Vanya and perhaps help her to stop using her antidepressants and to come out of her shell.

What do you think? Maybe Luke is finally coming out of rehab comes to Vanya's apartment door or she's waiting outside for him outside the rehab on the last day of his program as she promised?]
