...except now you've found yourself in a relationship like that, no matter your suitability or probability of even ending up in one in the first place. Yes, I'm talking to innocent cuties and bloodthirsty villains, revenge-driven sociopaths, philandering playboys, vowed stoics and terrorists, noble knights, basketcases, mercenaries, old folks, teenagers, and Big Dumb Heroes. Not to mention everybody in between.

You're shmoopy. In your own way, of course. Aside from possibly everything ever that's existed in the universe at any given point, what could go wrong?

Anyone who knew Wynonna at all knew that she had a sweet tooth. Usually, the donuts that were around the station were often all that she needed to satisfy her cravings but there was something about this time of year that brought out another love of hers.

She was usually protective over her sweets but this time she was carting a whole box along with a huge smile on her face as she sauntered in and over to the table where Dolls was sitting, working on whatever he was working on. Her smile only grew as she dropped the box right beside his laptop and made a little gesture. It wasn't often that she saw him indulging a sweet tooth if he had one but she figured he couldn't say no, right?

"Look what I found!" She was smiling as she dropped into the chair beside him and waited for him to look at her find. Which was a box of candy canes but, oh no, not normal ones! These ones declared themselves to be a mix as some were cherry-flavored, some were orange and the rest were some kind of green apple. She was holding one of the cherry ones and carefully unwrapping it before popping the long part between her lips. Yep, she was a happy woman right now.

"Where did you find them?" he asked flatly with a heavy dose of annoyance. She had discovered the Christmas gift he'd gotten for her stocking by opening his mail again.

The holidays had been something he never had an appreciation before arriving in Purgatory. As a kid in the foster system, there had been some homes who made a big to-do about Christmas. It wasn't as if he never had one but he hadn't had one that meant anything meaningful to him. This one was going to be a first.

Even if Wynonna had ruined it a little.

Yet he shouldn't have expected anything less. She probably had no idea that he'd been the one to buy it, not Waverly. The box was a little more than damaged over the label to where she had easy access to the contents inside. He'd yet to look at her, glancing from his laptop to the box while responding.

Wynonna knew that tone.

It was enough to have her pausing in mid-suck, the candy cane stopping dead between her lips as she stared at him and immediately knew that she had done something bad. Wracking her brain, she started to move backward through her actions right up to the moment she had found the candy canes in the first place.

"Uh..." Sliding the candy out of her mouth, she pressed her lips together to savor the taste for a second longer even as she gave him a sheepish look. This wasn't exactly a new go-round with them, so she sighed as she looked at the box and then back to his face. "They were in the mail? I just thought that maybe Waves ordered them or something."

Which had been an honest mistake on her part but she figured it wouldn't save her as she slowly lowered the candy cane to her side like it would help if it was out of sight.

"She didn't."

He wasn't exactly mad. A little annoyed with the US Postal Service or whatever entity was responsible for not taking care of the package better. Dolls kept Wynonna on edge by not facing her or looking up from what he was doing.

It was no secret that she didn't like his stoic side. These days, he didn't often have it around her. He used it in times like this to keep her guessing. Xavier knew she hated when he was a stick in the mud but also knew that if anyone could see through it, it was Wynonna.
