Greetings from the Dolphin Hotel!

Welcome to the Dolphin Hotel! We may not be the Plaza, but we take pride in our elegance and operate at 90% capacity most nights. Unfortunately, we're almost all booked-up at the moment, so we're going to have to put you in room 1408. What do I mean by have to? Oh... well, nothing serious. Enjoy your stay!
This meme is based on the film/short story 1408 by Stephen King. For reasons unknown, 1408 has been the site of multiple suicides and dozens of deaths by "natural causes". It does not kill people directly. What it does is lock them in and put them through so much psychological and physical torture that they kill themselves. Various features of the room change and warp into more gruesome versions of itself. And it takes special pleasure in using any painful memories or regrets in the character's past to break them.
Oh, and it promises it will do its best to kill you within an hour. If it doesn't succeed the first time, well... it can always rewind time and make you live it over again.
Starting Environments
1. Normal. It's just a hotel room. What's all the fuss about?
2. Getting heated. Wow, that's... really uncomfortable. Can we get an engineer to fix the thermostat?
3. Freezing. No, seriously, there's ice on the walls. Guys?
4. Darkness. No lights left. What's lurking around in the dark with you?
5. Light. There's a sickly yellow-orange light coming from the walls, and it's making you sick.
6. Living. Everything's taken on a distinctly organic look and feel, and the walls are... breathing?
7. Bigger or smaller. The walls are closing in, herding you into the little space you have left. Or maybe it's gone cavernous, so huge you can't see the other side.
8. Normal? You're out! You made it! You're safe! At least... until you notice the little things. Things that don't add up. People you recognize who shouldn't be there. Are you really out, or is this just a mask the room's put on for its own amusement?
9. Familiar. It's starting to take on aspects of pieces of your life - your childhood bedroom, your office. Maybe it's trying to make friends? Or maybe it's just digging through your brain for new stages to set.
10. Forest. Okay, seriously, what's a forest doing in the middle of a hotel? Guys?
11. Rerun. The ghosts or echoes of the room's former occupants will show you how it's done. Maybe you'll even get a peak into their private hells! Won't that be fun?
12. Home. Now you're out for real. You're saved. You made it. Well... sort of. Can you ever be sure? Can you ever go to a hotel again, or stand to have a door shut? Can you ever even be sane again?
Your partner
1. The two of you were in this together from the start. That's good: the room will have a harder time getting the two of you. Unless... there's something it can exploit...
2. Someone walks in on you (should have put up the Do Not Disturb sign!). Maybe they'll help! Or maybe they'll just be more prey.
3. They're there... but not. They're a specter, a vision conjured up by the room to taunt you. Are they dead? Alive? Do they hate you? Love you? Who cares? They're not real, so they can do whatever they want with you.
4. Somehow, you've managed to contact the outside. Great! You're saved! But good luck explaining everything and getting them to help you without putting them in danger. Especially if the room notices what you're doing and tries to do a little communicating of its own...
5. Oh, thank god, the cavalry's here. Someone's finally arrived to rescue you and pull you out of the room. In however many pieces you still have.
Would you like to make use of our express check-out system?
The room provides the following methods for suicide or mutilation. All of our guests enjoy free will and may choose to take advantage or relive the hour again. No character has to commit suicide, but it is the main goal of the room. Themes of suicide will be present.
1. Hanging. There's rope already knotted and conveniently attached to the ceiling for you. How nice!
2. Defenestration. Since we're conveniently located more than a dozen stories above a busy street, we're pretty sure any dive you take from the windows will be fatal.
3. Exsanguination. There's plenty of sharp objects around for stabbing! Maybe it will just be like going to sleep. Of course, depending on what you stab, it might take a while...
4. Poisoning. Yeah, sure, why not? There's some cleaning chemicals and so on in the bathroom that could probably fuck you up pretty bad.
5. Firearm. Or you could use a gun, conveniently located in the bedside table, next to the blank Gideon's Bible.
6. If you can think of it, the room will kindly provide it. See how much it cares about the quality of your stay?

my entire brain just went WHAT IF ELEVEN THO they could both be in 1408 and the room could be throwing them together but like!!! is it fucking with space and time to actually pull them together or is one just an already-dead echo of someone who was in the room before!!!]no subject

Checking into the hotel is a little weird; the front desk attendant mentions something about him having insisted he have a particular room, which he definitely didn't, but he doesn't want to get to the bottom of it when it's just a weird misunderstanding and anyway, his flight was late and he doesn't want that to make him late to meet up with Richie. He gets in, takes a shower to wash off the airplane funk, and then things get bad.
He counts an hour and forty-two minutes. He knows exactly how long because the clock starts a count-down from sixty minutes, 59:59, 59:58, then 00:00, 60:00 again. It's just math. It's the easiest thing to understand in the room.
Mostly he's alone, but sometimes there's other people in the room, too. One man throws himself out the window. A mother smothers her crying baby before hanging herself. He tries not to think about those people. The room freezes him and the room boils him alive. His palm is burned where he slammed it against the wall of the room, trying to get the attention of someone, anyone. The drawings he's working on for a new comic reach out from their pages to strangle him. His phone rings at one point and he screams into it for help, but Mike doesn't hear him, just explains casually but not unsympathetically that he doesn't feel anything but friendship for Will, that's just the way it is (it's not my fault you don't like girls!).
The room underestimates him. He's a survivor. He shuts his eyes against the ghosts in the room, burns pages of the tableside Bible and wraps himself in the bedcovers for warmth. He takes his shirt off in the heat and uses it to wrap his hand. And Mike - Mike is a hurt he's lived with for a long time, moved on from or at least learned to co-exist with. Will is a fucking survivor. He endures.
What cracks him is when the room makes him think he walked out, or at least his body walked out, carrying him with it, a prickle at the back of his neck like the Mind Flayer but not, struggling against his own body as it meets Richie, has a perfectly enjoyable conversation with him, even flirts a little, before inviting him back to his hotel room. And as Richie steps inside, he watches the look on Richie's face go from playful and teasing to confused, betrayed, as the room gets its hooks in him.
And then he blinks, and he's standing just inside the door, and it hasn't happened, but he knows, he knows that's what it wants, that it will puppeteer him into bringing Richie into this nightmare and he can't do this again, can't be forced to hurt his friends again. He can't regain control of his whole body but he can get one hand, not the one that's reaching for the doorknob, but a hand. He can work with this, reach for the knife he didn't pack with his things but is somehow still there for him to use and stab himself in the hand its controlling. It hurts like fuck but it works; with the pain comes a jolt that he thinks releases control of his body to him, but just to be sure, he holds the knife awkwardly with the point resting on the back of his neck, not quite decided if he should try digging around in his skull a little just to be sure it's really gone -
And then the door opens, from the outside.

[ It had been a while since they parted. Days went by quietly for the already quieter one of the duo, which was concerning to the point where #2 had made multiple attempts to reach his partner to no avail. It wasn't like #1 to not keep him informed of his whereabouts. They've been together for as long as their memories have gone back. Something was wrong.
His own investigation lead him to the Dolphin Hotel, where he overheard a silver helmeted robot had checked in a couple of days prior. As robots, they didn't require sleep but a recharge was a close equivalent and a hotel room suits that purpose as any other secluded area. As he made his way to the lobby, he couldn't help but feel a sense of dread from not just one cause, but a few. #1 had already been acting strangely since their disastrous attempt of obtaining a human guise. He probably self-terminated and couldn't bear to let #2 know. Or maybe this pursuit was a waste because he was caught by one of their own and became "reassimilated" - which the both of them would rather flip their own switches before that were to happen.
There was also the fact that #2 was alone in a space that he wasn't familiar with. Unsettling dread. Still, he pressed on as he always had, first by approaching the front desk. ]
I'm looking for someone. He dresses like me.
[ The firm and direct tone of his request blanketed the apprehension he had been feeling since he began his search. ]

As he waits for her to finish the usual start of her customer service, his golden plated gloves glimmer from the hotel’s light as he lightly flexes them with apprehension as if he had invisible strings to tug on. That look of recognition in her eyes isn’t lost on him. He doesn’t need to display any optics for her to know that he’s looking directly at her now. So #1 does have a room and this visit isn’t just for some underground hotel show. (Not that this place even remotely looks like it can function to do that. All the more reason to wonder why #1 would even be here.)
In any case, he wouldn't do this without telling his partner. Usually, they use their own systems to communicate in the same way humans would use their phones but #2 has been getting only silence every time he tries to reach out.
"I haven’t seen him in days," he begins, already uncomfortable from speaking so much at length. The overall situation makes his uneasiness more apparent. “It isn’t like him to go quiet unless something is very wrong.”
"Please," the robot inches closer to put his hands on the front desk, aware that the posture might not do him any favors but doing his best to show as much sincerity (and a little desperation) his voice box allows. "If he’s here, can I speak to him? Even just over the phone?"

There was a mystery they were there to solve, and he thought he might've stumbled across it- a 'haunted hotel room' seemed pretty supernatural and unbalanced, after all. So he checked himself in. And he's starting to think that was one of the biggest mistakes of his life.
He's been stuck here three days so far, and now the pleasantries of the Meadous are starting to feel like they'd always been a dream. He's tried about everything he could to get out, and the room itself seems to have tried almost everything it can to torture him. At the moment, there are clocks stacked just about everywhere- all digital, most of them broken as if sliced in two. One or two of the remaining clocks blares with an annoying beeping alarm. Gabriel is doing his best to try and work the window open with a screwdriver.
But then the door starts to open and he turns- someone made it in? The surprise turns to suspicion as he sees who it is. "Claire?" It can't really be her, right?

I got 8 from RNG, going with 3 for connection because it only makes sense
The check out process goes smoothly, and travelling away from the hotel is uneventful as well. Aside from maybe the nagging feeling that someone is watching, a flash of yellow hair...
No, that's just a scarf, worn by a man standing at the bus stop. He meets Garry's eyes for a split second before glancing away, readjusting the acessory. He looks sad, but it could just be the dreary weather that's seemed to hang over the town today.]
