distance means nothing
Long-Distance Relationship Meme

a romantic relationship between two people who live far apart and so are unable to meet on a frequent basis.
What to do if the person you're with...isn't with you? They could be living a town over, across the world, or even across the universe. However, living with you may not be off the table for them; instead, it possibly could be a time to time affair. Most of the time, though, they're off somewhere else and quite busy: working hard to advance their career, playing with their band, leading a revolution, whatever their passion of choice may be. You've come to terms with the distance between you, no matter its origin. And on that note, you're determined to do your best and make this work, despite how much you have to rely on any sort of communication aside from face to face.
Of course, what this all means is that you've got to make up for lost time and make every second you do have when they drop by count. What exactly that entails is up to you. Romance? Fun? Sex? Just being close or hanging out together? In your almost constantly parallel lives, any intersection is good enough.
- You know what to do. Comment with your character, info, prefs, wishes, desires, limits (serious only, fluffy preferred, no smut, humor encouraged, etc.)
- What aspects of a long-distance relationship do you want to play: the communicating between far-flung parties or the times spent together? Leave that in your comment too.
- Reply to others and do a thread.

This might have been longer than I anticipated it being.
Yet somehow, paths that have crossed once, twice, and thrice, have a way of crossing yet again. Even she has discovered that she is not wholly immune to this concept, though at times, she wishes she was.
Her first meeting with Hien was something of a coincidental one. In retrospect upon discovery precisely who he was, Perne knew very well she would not have sought him out for any reason in particular. Prestigious people, or rather, people of influence were oft the types she shied away from. So the concept that she was returning to a place and would very likely cross paths with him again—intentionally—was a...
Well. Perne's convinced that it is all in the name of diplomacy, in spite of whatever it may actually be.
Her journey has been no short one, though plenty could make the argument that aetherical travel is a possibility. Taking a ship across the water, however, has its benefits for those who do not fall ill upon the way. It gives her time to think about what she intends to say upon arrival. Time to consider what might make a fitting and appropriate gift for a man who does not possess an Ishgardian sense of attachment to materialistic things. Time to debate how long she will stay this time before she flutters off once more.
Amusingly enough, even once her feet have touched Othardian soil, she doesn't actually have any of the answers to her questions, and in consequence presents herself as Lady Archevauliere, in typical fashion—a woman of frequently few words, but humble, and appreciative for the welcoming atmosphere so different from the icy northlands across the sea that she calls home.]
All good! I've read her info but let me know if I'm getting anything wrong, etc!
And Lady Archevauliere managed just that, from the first moment he laid eyes on her. She was beautiful, of course, that much was plain. But beauty alone had never been enough to pique his interest, and what truly caught his attention was her attitude and demeanor. Polite as she may have been, it was clear there was more to her than met the eye.
She was a mystery to uncover, and Hien, well. He'd always been endlessly curious and ready to learn. He couldn't very well resist the challenge she posed, and the fact that he'd actually enjoyed her company only added one more reason for him to look forward to their next meeting.
And when the time comes, he's waiting. Some might say that as Lord of Doma, he should wait for his guests to be escorted to his quarters, rather than welcome them himself. But with all pressing matters having already been dealt with — and with the Enclave resting in capable hands — he can afford to venture outside.
So here he is, approaching Perne the moment he recognizes her figure. ]
'Tis a pleasure to see you again, Lady Archevauliere. I trust your journey was not terribly unpleasant ...?
You are perf!
She regards him, studies him with an analytical eye and only after she's deemed it proper, issues the subtle curve of mouth. It might not be his custom, but old habits die hard and she is Ishgardian to the very core of herself. Dipping into a curtsey, she rights herself and folds hands together. She has, after all, played the role of demure and unsuspecting woman for several summers and winters, and it's sometimes painfully apparent, considering how she carries herself.]
No journey where I am allotted peace and quiet in mine solitude would be one I considered 'unpleasant.' You are, however, very kind to ask. I do appreciate that.
[Her turquoise gaze, not unlike the water she's just crossed, moves past him momentarily.]
Have I done something worthy to deserve you greeting me personally? Others may begin to suspect foul play or that something is afoot. [She pauses and after a moment, appends:] Things are not unwell, I take it? Have I arrived at ill timing?

Still, the moment she greets him properly with a curtsey, he returns the pleasantries with a bow of his own, extending her the same courtesy. ]
Not at all! On the contrary, your timing could have scarcely been better. You may rest easy in the knowledge that I would not be here, were my presence necessary elsewhere.
And if I may. A honored guest journeying for as long you did, and coming from so far away, is reason enough to deserve personal greetings. But come now! Doubtless you must be tired from your travel. Might I treat you to a meal? That should give us ample chance to rest, before we proceed to the Enclave.

A dark eyebrow raises as he continues with his little proposal. Painted lips purse contemplatively. But maybe she shouldn't be ever consistently all business all the time. One attracts more flies with honey than cider vinegar, she supposes.]
Honoured guest, my... lord. [She parrots uncertainly as she tries to establish how she might more appropriately address him and not feeling exactly courageous enough to rely on names.] Such flattery. I suppose it would be rude of me to decline your offer. As such, I accept and intend to speak of your praises once I return to the Holy See to any and all who would hear it.

If he were to try to properly justify any of this, he could easily claim he's hoping her research will spur interest in the region's flora and grab the attention of travelers and foreign business alike.
But the truth of it is a lot more simple. He wants to know — really know — what kind of person she is, and the best way to do it is to deal with her himself. ]
In that case, I shall endeavor to continue earning your praises for the rest of your stay. Grateful as I am for your kind words, a good first impression can scarcely be enough on its own.
[ He gives her a smile before simply starting to walk, heading for the closest restaurant ]

In fact, he may be more familiar. All the same, Perne can't claim to be an expert, but no one's complained yet. Loudly.]
If I should become a being of note, I will certainly keep all of that in consideration. Although, I daresay I prefer it a mite more with a simple occupation that can easily leave me nameless. I know not what to do with flattery or such... grandiose displays. [Not unfamiliar with them. Just... never really knowing what to say to them. Or what to do. Somehow not knowing is almost worse than responding the 'wrong' way, whatever that might entail.
Hands in her skirts, she trails after him, still a little rigid, which seems to be ever infinite with her. One of these times, it might not be the worst thing ever to actually try to fit in, though she doubts she'll ever put in the effort to do so.]
Perhaps that is simply perception. Some prefer any kind of attention, whether it be positive or negative, whereas others may shy away from it entirely. I suppose you have no such luxury with the eyes of your people upon you.
I was swallowed by patch and work, sorry!
[ It's his duty, after all, and daunting though it may be from time to time, he would never shy away from it. The way he sees it, serving his people as their leader is a honor, not a burden, and it stands to reason that the people would be watching the man who is supposed to lead them.
He's not going to truly go too deeply about it during this conversation, however — now's not the time and he's still far more interested in the mask Perne may be wearing, rather than removing his own. ]
But, tell me, did my welcoming you make you uncomfortable, perhaps? I did not mean to turn this into a grandiose display, as you've so excellently put it. For that, you have my apologies.
[ He's careful to make it so they're standing next to each other - walking beside one another - as they go. It's deliberate and purposeful, and clearly meant to put each other on equal standing. ]
If it puts you at ease, I have a ... vested interest in your researches. I was rather hoping it could spur more visits such as yours, into our lands. There is much and more Doma is now ready to offer the world. I would like to do everything in my power to see that people are well aware of that.
Me too; it is totally fine. Please take your time!
Teeth gently scrape over her lower lip as she takes a moment to consider the best way to reply. In the end, she simply chooses to evade it and not address it. It's not the most polite way to approach the conversation, but she has a fondness for evasion. It's served her well.
Besides, he gives her such a nice distraction to follow up with where his explanation is concerned.
Perne takes but a moment to peer sidelong to him before she draws her gaze away to find speech once more.]
A vested interest in botany, Your Highness? [She cannot help but issue a laugh.] Surely you have yours here to do such research for you. And their knowledge would far exceed mine. Mine excursions here have been for the sake of personal interest and knowledge. Many of the plants here remain unfamiliar to me and if mine records and archives to be completed, then I should be as accurate as I can be.
[Amusement lingers in her tone and her features. He's kind to her. Perhaps overly so.] Still, that you seem to think of mine occupation highly is flattering and I thank you for it. Would that I had something of equal value to present to you in turn.
