Season of the Witch

The concept of the Witch represents many things. Witches may be women, outcast, or other, and their power has been feared because it threatens the tidiness of the status quo. From Medea to Elphaba, the witch has been hated, feared, and tormented, but sometimes she has ruled triumphant.



Scenarios:
1. The Modern Coven ~ Witches in the modern world. There's a school in Louisiana, where the witches walk two by two in broad-brimmed black hats, under the watchful eye of their Supreme. There's a house in New England, where two sisters do magic with pies and gardening. There's a prophecy in Sunnyvale. There's a charmed trio of three sisters who fight demons. There are magic shops, Wiccans and druids.
2. The Ancient Forests of Europe ~ Arthurian England. The realm of the Leannan Sidhe. La Belle Dame Sans Merci. The Lady of the Lake. Avalon. The Huldra. Baba Yaga. The woods this way are dark and deep, and if you stray from the path, you may meet a witch. She may be beautiful, or she may be hideous, but whatever you do, mind your manners.
3. Realms Far and Lands Forgotten ~ Medea came from Colchis, on the far side of the black sea. There have been witches real and fictional from a hundred realms and ancient times. Nitocris of Egypt, witches of Hyperborea, perhaps even Enheduanna of Sumeria. Witches, queens, and priestesses, filled with an ancient and wondrous power.
4. The Realms of the Blood - The Black Jewels ~ The Blood are the caretakers of the land, blessed by the Darkness with wells of power in the form of their Jewels. Every woman's a witch, every man a warlord, and with a reservoir of raw psychic power ready to tap for their Craft, the Blood are forces of nature. And nature dictates that men among the Blood are born to serve and women to be served. Bound by Protocol and arrayed into matriarchal Courts large and small, Blood society is highly stratified by the thirteen ranks of Jewel and a handful of castes. Add social rank into the mix and their society becomes a constantly evolving dance of power, caste, and privilege that spans three realms: Terrielle, Realm of Light, Kaeleer, the Shadow Realm, and Hell, the Dark Realm and home of the demon dead. Implacable Queens rule their Courts and tend the land beneath their feet, sharp-edge Black Widows experiment in poisons and spin tangled webs to predict the future, Healers mend the injured and cure the sick, and Priestesses preside over altars, offerings, and Sanctuaries. Beneath Caste and Jewel, however, there are as many types of witch as there are witches, and all are dark and dangerous.
5. Something wicked this way comes ~ For wicked witches, whether you desire to devour children or turn a kingdom to ruins. Eternal life is within your grasp, and they claim that your crimes are as black as your heart. But that's all slander, of course, and for anyone who doubts, you have a basket full of lovely apples.
6. Somewhere over the rainbow ~ Are you a good witch or a bad witch? Oz is full of witches, some lovely and some wicked. There are yellow brick roads to follow, and plenty more witches in the neighbouring lands of Ix and Ev and Boboland. Just as long as no one drops a house on you. Be careful to stay away from water.


How to play:
If you'd like your character to be a witch, describe what kind of witch they are and what kind of magic they have. Note any preferences you have for setting/scenario, and include a prompt or two!
Witches don't have to be women, though they should be Other in some way. Shamanic figures in many cultures have often transgressed gender roles.
If you prefer your character to be a mundane in a witchy world, pick a scenario or two and describe what role your character would have in that world.

Zepar isn't actually a demon, even despite more recent lore, but he's easily mistaken for one. He may even end up being summoned by someone seeking Angelic assistance, though he'll be of very little help in that regard.

Gretel is a witch hunter as well as being the only daughter of the Grand White Witch. She's as good at the first part as she is as much because of the second part as because of experience and learned skill.

"A real witch hunter so I'm not the only one in this two bit town who thinks that the correct response to kidnapped children is to leave them there and someone who can hold their own in a fight."

On first glance Lydia would have made an excellent trophy wife for some lord, flaming red hair perfectly coiffured, waist corseted, and the only odd thing being the alchemy she was currently carrying out. On second glance her eyes said that she'd been through a lot, her corset was in fact a perfectly fitted and sculpted breastplate, and her eyes said she'd been through more than most military veterans, as did her scars.

Wanda isn't just a dream-walker, which is dangerous enough, but a dream-weaver, so not only can she follow someone into a subconscious state and get a look at how their mind works, she can force them into one and play with their perceptions if she wants to, essentially re-making their reality.

Poe Dameron | Star Wars | OTA

Poe Dameron is a hedge-witch, and protector of one of the last living Druid Oaks, one that's happily growing out back of the family property. He was in the Air Force for a time, though he doesn't talk about it, and rumors abound running the gamut from his being honorably discharged to care for his father in home hospice right through to his having gone AWOL when he got word that his father had died.
The neighborhood doesn't really mind either way, they're just glad to have him home and not only because of the salves, tinctures, teas and baked goods he's so good at making.

Klaus | Umbrella Academy | OTA

Klaus broke away from his more traditionally-minded -and adoptive- family as soon as he turned 18 and really came into his own power.
He's one of the world's few living True Mediums and officially operates under the name Seance. But, occasionally, he also operates off the books as Ouija. His powers are the same either way: he can communicate with ghosts, and on occasion, if the price is right or if it's incredibly important -or just has a high potential for drama- he'll let one take up space in his body.

Gabreel King | OC | OTA

Gabreel is a Pain-Eater, which isn't the same thing as a Sin-Eater, that's something else that he doesn't have the training for. While he does specialize in emotional pain, he can help with the physical as well, to some degree.
For the price of a cup of coffee and a pastry he can make a person's day better, and for the price of dinner -whether it's a hole in the wall diner or a high-cuisine kind of place- he can make a person's day much better.

Armitage Hux | Star Wars (AU) | OTA

Born of a witch and a man who made a deal with a demon (who also happened to be that witch's patron), Armitage is very much his mother's son, with her power -inherited along with her familiar when she died- on top of his own.
He specializes in divination and minor location spells, and has a handy little following on a tarot-readings-and-psychic-advice website (the kind that's mostly -but not completely- full of frauds.)

Nico is not only Wiccan but in possession of a magical staff that is supposedly technology, but seems to give her a connection to the Dark Dimension. She naturally fits perfectly into the first scenario. But I'd be happy to try her out with other scenarios too!

As a witch, Rinoa is able to use magic naturally. In general, witches in her canon tend to have a certain amount of power over time and space, as well as the standard magics wielded by para-magic users. She personally has displayed capability with revival magic, teleportation magic, and transfiguration magic. She is also capable of telepathy. Happy to play around with any scenario!

but for real, the vuhvitch (streaming on netflix!) is basically a horror movie for puritans in that witches are real, they are evil and highly traditional folk horror nightmares, and they gain their power through a satanic pact. she can either be the extremely sad normal girl she is in canon, or through ~meme au magic~ she exists in whatever world or timeframe your character's from! that said, being from 1630 is a huge part of who thomasin is as a character, so a modern au would be pointless. if it's set in the present day and she's not temporally displaced, she's probably going to be a baby stealing, child murdering witch who still looks like a teenager, and it's gonna be real depressing. she might also summon a demon, you know, like you do. )
