1.) I'll get you some candies and chocolates. 🎃 is also nice at this time of year

2.) It's late. Come home right this instant or I'll become a 👻 overnight

3.) I'm sitting in the hospital with him while he's still half drunk with a busted leg because he thought he could do parkour off the roof

4.) Please tell me you're not on their roof again...

5.) Text him! Misfires welcome!

All right. I'm coming over.

He'll just have to parkour like a boss up on the roof-tops to meet up with him and the rest of the clan. He didn't come empty handed, because he bought a mooncake for Wuxian to enjoy as they watch the firecrackers together. It's the mid-autumn festival, after all.

"Mooncake, Wei Ying. For you."

"Oh, thank you! It looks delicious."

Wei Ying takes the cake, scooting over since as he'd said in his text, it's a bit chilly tonight. Sharing body heat is important so he thinks nothing of cheerfully invading Lan Zhan's personal space. He takes a bite of the mooncake. It is delicious and food given by family and friends always tastes better somehow. Once again, he's getting crumbs on his clothes and maybe a few stray ones are making their way onto Lan Zhan's, too, with close he's sitting to him right now but he seems to be in a happy enough mood.

"Want to try a bite? It's good and I don't mind sharing."

It is rather chilly and drafty on the rooftop, but it's autumn. The scenic view of the surrounding forests with leaves turned green to yellow of the season and the sight of the mountains of Gusu is beautiful even from the height.

"You're welcome." On nights and festivals like this, it's a day meant to celebrate with close friends and family. Lan Zhan calmly watches the firecrackers goes off as colored sparks exploded in the night sky as Wei Ying scoots close to him, leaning on him for shared body warmth, so he didn't mind the sharing of space.

It's the giving of mooncake to his best friend that matters and seeing Wei Ying happy. "It's for you. You can have it all." But he didn't mind a bite if Wei Ying offered, so he took a piece for himself. "But thank you." Don't mind if he helps himself to a piece.

"You're welcome."

Wei Ying leans against him comfortably as he munches, eyes on the display in the sky. He's always enjoyed fireworks, feeling a bit of childish excitement and anticipation at the whistling rockets as he waited to see what sparks they'd bring. Much of what he can recall about his childhood isn't particularly happy but fireworks make him think of happiness and security, of being held securely in his adoptive father's arms when he was small. He doesn't really thinking too deeply about the past though, the good or the bad, so instead he steals a sideways glance at his present company.

"So which one's your favorite? I like the red and purple ones."

He gestures toward the fireworks above, swallowing another bite of cake.

In comparison, Lan Zhan isn’t thinking of anything at all. He keeps the past of his childhood to himself, as there was tradegy in his childhood concerning his parents, but that event happened a long time ago and hardly speaks of it, if anything a word at all.

“...Mn.” Lan Zhan noticed he was contemplating and wonders what he was thinking, but for now he watches the fireworks calmly. Living in a sect that respects meditation to think through one’s thoughts and actions and reflecting on it, this is what Lan Zhan encouraged.

With a nod. “Light blues, white, and gold.” He answered.

"They have nice shapes."

The gold ones remind him a little of Lan Zhan's eyes with the way they shimmer. As if to confirm that thought, he glances over again, but he doesn't voice it out loud or any of the other odd ones he's been having about his best friend lately. They're a jumbled mess and the feelings entangled in those thoughts are just as messy.

But fireworks. Fireworks are a safe topic. And teasing his friend is a familiar refuge.

"But I would've thought an old man like you would hate fireworks, Lan Zhan! They're so noisy. Are you sure they're not breaking any rules?"

But maybe babbling nonsense is, too.

"Indeed they do."

Lan Zhan isn't that old. The point of learning cultivation is to learn and achieve immortality. Not that Lan Zhan is interested in living forever as a youthful immortal as he sees learning cultivation is a path of self-improvement.

"...Hm." A thoughtful hum. "No. And as you can see, everyone else is enjoying it too. I think it could be quite fun. So thank you for bringing me out of here."

Lan Zhan didn't mind his nonsense babbling. If anything, despite Lan Zhan called him ridiculous, a lot of Wei Wuxian's babble actually make sense to him. Just that Lan Zhan weakness of keeping quiet means he was actually listening to him.

When the firework show is over. "It's time to go home. You can catch up cold from staying on the roofs for far too long."
afterthemoment: (try a new perspective)

"You're so fussy, Lan Zhan. You only just got here and you're ready to leave?"

Wei Ying's tone is teasing. Really, he's not so fragile that a little cold night air but then again, he has whined plenty of times about temperatures being colder than he could stand. He doesn't really have any real strong objections to heading out though. The fireworks are over and unless Lan Xichen accidentally imbibes any of the liquor being served at the festival, it's unlikely there'lll be any more. Why not just go with Lan Zhan?

"Where do you want to go?"

He's pretty cheerful as he gets to his feet, offering a hand to pull Lan Zhan up as well.

"It's your pick."

The fireworks show is over. No liquor is ever served in Gusu. Alcohol is forbidden and this rule is strictly enforced.

Taking his hand, Lan Zhan stood up on the roof, keeping his balance. He is stoic as usual with that cool stare at the fussy comment. "..." The wind gives a draft through his sleeves and long robes of white.

"Nowhere. I'm going home. It's almost 9pm. It's bedtime and you should go home and go to bed too. No staying up late past your curfew."

Lan Zhan is still unfun at a festival that supposed to be about fun.
afterthemoment: (pouting away)

Such a fuddy-duddy!

"But it's still so early, Lan Zhan," he whines and pouts.

Even so, it's with great reluctance that Wei Ying releases his hand. Lan Zhan's as stubborn about his early bedtime and he is about his late one. Ultimately, he just shrugs and prepares to drop down from the roof onto a sturdy looking tree limb nearby.

"I'm going to stick around a little longer then I'll head home. I want to say hello to Huaisang before I leave."

Did Wei Ying just climb onto his friend's roof without properly greeting him first? He sure did.

"But I won't stay too late."

In theory. Who knows what shenanigans Wei Ying might get into by the time he actually leaves on his own.

"Anyway, goodnight."

Lan Zhan also jumps down from the roof and landed on his feet, so elegantly like a graceful immortal deity with that flowing robes of his as he made his descent to the ground.

Well, there's certainly no punishment for staying up longer. Despite how righteousness and stickler to the rules he can be, Lan Zhan will let him go this time and won't tell anyone. It's the festival and everyone is in a good mood for the celebrations, so it's seems trivial and unnecessary.

And anyway, he was staying up late too. "No rough-horsing and fooling around." He reminded him. Out of habit.

With a nod. "Mn."

When Wei Ying is out of the earshot, gently "...Good-night Wei Ying."
