[Perhaps James merely wanted to believe he'd passed those tests. Had so much faith in his own abilities that he honestly believed he'd done alright, beyond a few missed shots, a refusal for psych tests and a less than stellar performance at his fitness.

And yet, even after failure, he'd still succeeded against a top class assassin, thugs, even Silva. Even if his victory with Silva left questions floating in his mind about they why.

The mention of being replaced triggers something. Not self-pity for himself, but for all the other colleagues he's seen die, or even had to replace. Just like Ronson, he thinks unconsciously...

I already see it your way, I just hold up a little more faith in my country.

But he pays attention to those little flashes of unwanted memories, focusing on each one as it slips past and analysing carefully against what he already knows.]
