Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

[The case of the giant hound had some affects on Sherlock. The roughly four-hour drive back to London was conducted on Sherlock's side - in silence. Of course he could be silent for days on end, but this was clearly something more. The Moriarty Sherlock had seen in his drug-induced state haunted him, whether he was awake or asleep.]

[It had been several weeks and by now, he expected his friend had probably picked up on the pattern. He would work or keep himself busy until he utterly crashed - on the kitchen table next to his experiments, on the couch when he was in his Mind Palace, on his chair as he was tuning his violin. And he would never sleep for more than about twenty minutes at a time. The longest being an hour two days ago.]

[Tonight, though, Sherlock had needed a change of venue (and lighting) for an experiment he was conducting, so he had been working in his bedroom. He rarely actually worked in his bedroom - something about keeping his 'awake space' and 'sleeping space' separate in his mind. But, the lighting was important for this experiment, so to his bedroom he went. Sherlock had lost track of time, to an extent. The schedule he keeps and the lack of sleep adding to it these days makes that difficult. This was a bad idea, as he eventually did fall asleep.]

[Sherlock slept for several hours, before the nightmares started. John probably couldn't hear him at first, but eventually, he started screaming, caught in the throws of a night-terror.]

Some people where running around in panic while other lay burned to death on the ground. One of the less burned bodies was her focus. Her mother's. [Morning walks for Annie were a usual sort of thing. It let Finnick get more sleep, and it was nice to clear her head, and the silence tended to do her some good. Usually, she strolled down the path down to the private beach for the Victors, and walked along the beach, letting the waves wash over her toes until she reached some point where she decided to turn around. Today, however, this usual plan had a wrench thrown in it. As she was walking on the beach, she noticed something out of place: what appeared to be a large lump covered in, well, sea-weed and what appeared to be a blue coat. Gasping, Annie took off at a run towards the form, dropping to her knees. It was a man who... still appeared to be breathing. Reaching out, she grabbed on to his shoulder and flipped him on to his back. Breathing, but barely. Without wasting any time, she bent down and began to perform CPR, hoping to revive him.]

[ Thunderstorms have the best timing. Thomas isn't sure why he fears them and seeks solace in them at the same time, but it's ridiculous and he should really stop leaving his warm, cozy, dry apartment to stand outside in coat and sleepwear, staring up at the clouds like a crazy person. He wasn't sure how long he'd been outside, but his cold and wet feet did eventually remind him that he was just going to catch something dreadful if he stayed out here any longer. That curse was his lamentation of the fact that he'd forgotten his keys.

With the landlord unavailable until morning, and nobody answering when he buzzed the numbers of those he knew to usually be up at this late hour, Thomas had stuffed his hands in his coat pockets and began to wander. It wasn't terribly busy this late at night, but there were the few unpleasant individuals calling out their obscenities as he'd passed. Thomas had picked up the pace, hurrying through the rain blurring his vision, and he didn't stop until a sudden sense of security blanketed him and he ducked inside the surprisingly open lobby of another building.

He didn't recognize it right away, but at least he was out of the rain. ]

Dick wasn't sure what had happened. But he'd gotten a call to go check on Kory, and so he did, after spending a few days extremely tangled up in Gotham. I.e., out of touch, basically.

But he was here, careful, ready to help whichever way he could.

[ Sometimes, Kobra has nightmares. Party knows this. He understands what nightmares are, in the technical sense, but they're one of those few human things he can't quite grasp. Even after the occasional night watching Kobra mumble in his sleep with an uncomfortable expression on his face, he still isn't sure he gets it. Why would a mind plague itself? Do people not get enough shit during the day?

[ It's another one of those nights, and Party is awake -- not that he ever really sleeps. His spot in the corner, nearest the generator (the nice, stolen BLI kind that doesn't kill you in your sleep), is about two steps from Kobra, so even from his side, on the floor, he can tell when the bad dreams start setting in. He's hesitant to act, though; they'll go away, they always do, and Kobra will just drift off into a normal sleep again.

[ Party grumbles a little to himself and nudges the generator's cord off his foot, watching Kobra's subtle changes in expression. ]

[Merida was a big girl, she had gotten over her fear of shadows and the darkness long ago. She hadn't needed her mother's comfort in a long time.

So why was it now that the nightmares were returning. The huge ferocious bears, the sound of gnashing teeth, and the sight of her mother being torn asunder-- come to haunt her dreams.

It wasn't every night, but every once in a while there were spikes in her mind.

She could never remember specifics, she only remembers the fear.

Tonight, after she wakes up in a cold sweat, she decides to wander the castle, instead of tossing and turning in her bed. However, the walls were far too claustrophobic, the shadows seemed to crash in on her-- so she gets dressed and ventures outside.

Here she'll venture quietly along the outer wall, ducking around guards, sneaking through the snow. No need to catch attention to herself from them. She'd rather not get dragged back inside, or receive some sort of lecture about being out late.]

(It's only been a day or two since that whole "Spike the Greedy Dragon" fiasco and given how it ended, Rarity assumed everything was resolved. To show she wasn't holding anything against Spike, she asked him to help her with some of her work, as she regularly did. Nothing says "we're cool" than going back to normalcy, right?

But even so, she couldn't help but notice that Spike didn't show as much vigor as he usually did and if he wasn't happy around her, then something was incredibly wrong. Therefore, Rarity became determined to help her precious Spikey Wikey through it.)

I believe I'll be able to finish this order by the deadline, but did they really need their outfit to be this shade of green? There are so many others that would work better...but I suppose I'll have to make due. What do you think, Spike?
