[ TJ laughed, ducking his head. ] Every now and then.

[She looks askance, sly and wry.] Well, that's more than some can manage in their entire lifetimes.

[ TJ shrugged, nodding. From his experience, that was absolutely true. Even he could admit he'd made some terrible choices. ] We've had a few bright stars, I think. Just, uh, none in my lifetime.

Wait and see. A little history can make a few stars out of barely shining rocks.

Isn't that the truth.

Try not to be too disappointed in your present era. Not every generation can offer up a Louis XIV or a Hemingway.

I feel like my generation is apathetic.

[mantichora]

Maybe in general, compared to eras like the 1960s or the 'Roaring Twenties'...but there are the bright spots, here and there.

The problem is most of the time you have to wait for the younger generations to grow up before they're ready to accomplish anything.

Probably takes that long to unlearn that we actually can do anything.

[mantichora]

No one person can do anything. But anyone can do many, many things.

You sound like a book of proverbs when you talk like that.

Probably I'm just showing my age.

[ TJ chuckled and shook his head. ] Well, there's a little more weight behind those old sayings when they come from you.
