[ Spider-Man is feeling pretty damn good by the time he swings home, gracefully leaping through his bedroom window and landing as lightly as a bird. It always feels good to make a difference, and right now, there are a lot of seriously dangerous dudes webbed up for convenient collection outside the police station. Those guys can't hurt anyone anymore and the last of the illegal alien tech seems to be off the streets of New York. It's enough to make Peter feel proud of himself. Proud to be Spider-Man.

Peter peels his mask up around his forehead and is about to undress when he hears Aunt May in the kitchen. He thinks she's humming some tune, and the very sound of her voice makes his heart jump a little. May has always been so many things to him: savior, guardian, teacher, provider, secret crush, inspiration, and in the aftermath of his recent return, lover. For the past few weeks, he's never fallen asleep or woken up alone. The warmth and weight of her body had always been pressed against him...or wrapped around him.

He decides not to change into his street clothes. He steps on through to the apartment in full Spider-Man gear, the mask still crowning his forehead. Today's costume is more old-fashioned than the suit Mr Stark gave him: no Karen, no instant kill mode, no nanomachines. Just a protective fibre that clings to the taut musculature of his body like...well, like webbing. Peter doesn't go out of his way to sneak or be silent, but still doesn't say anything as he walks into the kitchen with May's back to him. For a moment, he merely appreciates the sight of her, letting his eyes wander up and down the older woman with breathy appreciation.

Peter has often wondered if he could consider himself unlucky or unlucky. He sometimes felt there's a case to be made either way, considering all his amazing powers against all the hardships he's endured. Yet, when he sees May, he knows exactly how lucky he is.
