Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a conscientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be.
The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapiens. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed.
Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human.
So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!
All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best.
However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to.
According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right.
Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child.
It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant.
Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet.
These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders.
Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions.
Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends.
Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans.
With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master! |
Aerith Gainsborough | FFVII | M/F
As a pet: Aerith would likely be a deer girl-- or something that is very fond of outdoors, she would be a pet who would be very eager to garden and she'd likely make tasty things for her master as well-- there would be no one more adoring then Aerith
As a master: (preferrably to a Zack), she would also be a loving mistress who would probably spoil her puppy hideously, she would make sure that he went everywhere with him, so as to protect him-- and of course she would make sure that he always had his favorites and give him frequent belly rubs ]

He was warm. The ground underneath him was soft, and his skin didn't itch at all when he stretched. He sighed, rolling over, wondering what had- With a jolt, he remembers. The man finding him in the cold alley. Saying he'd be warm and looked after, have a home again. The cages. The screams. The doctors, jabbing him with the needles, watching him cry in pain. The overwhelming pain. And then the Avengers, breaking into the base. Captain America ripping open the cage door. Iron Man carrying him out of there, past the bodies of the pets who hadn't survived. Talking of sending him somewhere else.
Pietro opens his eyes. Needing to know where he was. Scared of where he might have been sent. What had happened after he pasted out. His tail flicks in agitation. He lifts his head. Where was he?
Lan Wangji | mdzs | ota
As pet: Snow white arctic fox or arctic hare. He's a strong silent type with an icy demeanor who doesn't speak much. He carries around his guqin and sword for self-defense to survive in the wild, so he's a feral and would need takes time and convincing to warm up to human owner. Or end up in the kennel because he has no other choice...
Higher preference for m/m for shipping/smut. However for this au specifically since it's my jam, m/f is also welcome. Looking for CR/ship over smut, but cr can be assumed. Kinks are heats, territorial, bonding, loyalty, therapeutic, etc. Any questions, feel free to drop an ooc note!]

I'm thinking of a mutual benefit relationship with Lan Wangji as pet--Lucian is the son of a wealthy nobleman, being punished by temporary banishment to the countryside for trying to oppose his corrupt and abusive father. His father's been encouraging him to get a pet to get him to "show some responsibility", but while his father's been thinking tame, pet-shop female pet, Lucian's preferences run toward feral male pets with swords. Lucian can offer food and shelter, and he's much in need of some protection and an ally, so there are plot hooks if we want to explore them.
Lucian's canon is Georgian-era England, but I figure that we can always mash time and space to suit our AU as needed.]
Lucian should have brought a heavier coat.
The sky had only been spitting light snow when he had left his uncle's house that morning, and he'd only really meant to go for a brisk stroll. But even as the day went on and the snow fell harder, Lucian didn't want to turn back. Returning to his uncle's house meant loneliness in his room or loneliness in his uncle's company, and while Lucian was already itching for a drink, he didn't want to go back to marinate in his misery just yet.
The wild hills out here were beautiful covered in snow, and Lucian had spotted the ruins of an old castle nestled between the hills, so he headed for that. He found the ashes of a recent campfire, but the castle was otherwise empty. Lucian climbed the stairs to a crumbling upper floor and sat on a carved stone bench under a half-collapsed roof to rest and watch the snow. But as he sat, he grew colder and colder, and the snow thickened, laying drifts across the hills. He'd get soaked and frozen if he tried to trudge back to his uncle's house in that, but he'd only grow colder if he stayed here while the day's heat faded. Lucian had no way to start a fire of his own, and as he watched the snow and considered this conundrum, he had to acknowledge that he was an idiot.
Finally he braced himself and made his way back down the steps, intending to start the long, cold trek across the hills to shelter. If he didn't go now, he wouldn't make it back before dark, and Lucian had at least enough sense to realize he wasn't going to survive the night out here unless someone helped him.

tsukino usagi ☽ sailor moon ☆ f/m*
as an owner: the softest, biggest of hearts, still cuddly, probably more "owned" than the other way around. protective pets, meet your worst nightmare since she's never met a stranger.
* platonic interpretations of the meme work, too! ]

For owner!Usagi, Dedue would be a pitbull, extremely loyal and protective, constantly at his wit's end trying to keep Usagi out of trouble.
Do you have a preference?]

harry osborn (spider-man)
As a pet: Harry's probably a cat that acts like a dog around someone he loves. Honestly, he's kind of a handful. Temperamental, picky, a little rebellious... He's leery around most people, but he's polite enough. He does make up for how much of a pain in the ass he is by being endlessly affectionate and eager to please to his master, though. He enjoys painting and cooking, and he'll be happy to make his master meals.
As an owner: Very kind, doesn't like the idea of pet people being thought of as "lesser beings" and advocates for their rights. He probably has a habit of taking in strays and trying to help them back on their feet if they're lost. He spoils them like absolute crazy. It probably gets kind of annoying, tbh. But he honestly likes having someone to dote on. )

baron ( h&h roman company )
as a pet, he'd be a cat, with black ears and a tail to match. he'd be self-sufficient and could range from aggressive to mildly affectionate with his owner.
as an owner, he'd be pretty strict, but it'd be clear that he got a pet for the sake of having some companionship. in either instance, he can warm up to the pet or owner. ]
Juri | original | m/m
I like to lean into the pet person angle and this being seen as rather normal and whatnot. Particular favourite prompts would be stray, breaking in, therapeutic, petting, pet show (less possible since Juri shows some clear deviations from desirable traits, but it'd be fun if possible), heat (pet play is a tentative yes, I just don't like much dehumanization, so on the lighter end would be fine).
Pet/pet stuff could be fun too, if there's an assumed owner who's picking up a second pet for whatever reason.]

as a pet: Rip is very much a black cat that likes to wander outdoors. She can be loyal or aloof and rebellious depending on who her Master is.
As a Master: She's strict, but affectionate with her pets. Though, most of the time the pet might be taking on more of a hunting companion role or sometimes therapy pet role. ]

Pet:Affectionate and opinionated. She's definitely a cat.
Master: Relena would be a very calm and patient Master for her pet. Though, they'd probably have their work cut out for them attempting to guard her....]
