Dear Claude,

As you know, I had a lot of practice writing letters while we were at the academy. Don't tell my brother, but I'm much more excited to write you now. I'll bet you thought I was bluffing when I said I'd write you often, didn't you? Too bad!

I'm sure you have a great many things to keep you busy now, after everything that's happened. Father and Holst have barely been home since I've returned, and I'm afraid they've got me holding the border much of the time as well. The Almyrans have been quiet on this end, however, so even though I have a role to fill, I haven't had to get my hands dirty. You know how much I hate that. Whatever time you do have to yourself, I hope you won't mind spending some of it on reading silly letters from me.

Personally, I'd really love to get some back from you...but I won't be offended if you can't! I'm sure I'll see you next time you come this way. Or, maybe, I'll ride out into Riegan lands with Holst sometime just to get a glimpse of you.

All this preamble just to say...I hope you're alright. I know the professor disappearing like that hit you very hard, and I know things feel really scary right now. But I really can't shake the feeling that we're all going to be together again soon, the professor included. I wish I could be there with you now...but know that you only need to call me and I'll be at your side with my axe, promise.

[it's a handwritten note, because that's the kind of person will is, and it's very carefully folded up about 7 times until it's barely bigger than a fingertip, shoved between the slats of eddie's locker. will knows that they both end up getting all kinds of awful things written on notes and stuffed in their lockers, so hopefully this helps balance it out.
