When it comes to the way affection is shown, everyone has a different way they go about it. That means that there's a pretty good chance, with regards to couples, you could end up with two people who have two varying approaches towards how they prove they care...sometimes radically varying, which can lead to more than a little confusion or hurt feelings if there's not proper communication. But when both people are on the same page, they can tell each other how they feel with few words.

( The had ended months ago, and Dimitri had some difficulty adjusting to a life that wasn't talking strategy and marching onto the battlefield. Swinging a lance, clashing blades with the enemy was so much more simple than speaking with attendants and advisers, ensuring they prioritized the correct issues for the best of the kingdom. Having the professor around to continue to assist him, and the continued support from his childhood friends helped to ease some of the burdens of his position. But it weighed on them, too.

Dimitri did his best to ensure they had the time they needed for themselves when they could, but he'd realized quickly which of them took the most of his attention. His relationship with Felix had been... difficult at best even at the academy, and now, he was certain they were in a better place. Not perfect, not without its moments of turmoil, but better than it had been. He realized early on that his concern for Felix had changed from concern to affection before he could have stopped it, and while he had quietly accepted it, he'd never voiced it.

Still, he showed it in his own ways. It had started as a new set of new hair ties left in Felix's quarters. The next gift had been new gloves placed neatly in Felix's chair in the council room. A new training sword, a new blanket for the chill of the late seasons. Dimitri never made a claim to leaving any of these gifts for his childhood friend, the man who made his stomach flutter and his heart skip a beat, and Felix had never voiced a thanks or questioned it. He took that to mean he was unopposed.

His latest gift was a new coat and matching cloak. With the winter months creeping closer, he knew traveling would become difficult and uncomfortable without the correct clothing. He folded them neatly, held them carefully in his hands to be sure he didn't drop or ruin them. One of the servants had told him Felix was out near the stables, and Dimitri told himself this was the perfect opportunity to leave his next gift. He slipped quietly into Felix's quarters, setting the gift on the bed and arranging it neatly. )
