[this doesn’t really fit the prompt exactly but I just got thinking about how Carol looks like an angel and she’s always gone from earth for such long stretches, and yeah.... this happened ; hope you don’t mind it]

           When he’d been little, he had sworn he’d seen an angel. She was bright and on fire and she’d caught the rubble before he could fall on him and Wanda. She’d held it above her head and smiled at him. He’d stared, and Wanda had started to pray, and the angel had told them to follow her. She kept the entire apartment building off of them until they could crawl to freedom, pulled from the wreckage and leaving their parents bodies below. He was five years old and he looked back at the angel and asked if he’d ever see her again. She promised that he would.
      It had been many years since then. Sokovia had never recovered from the civil war, and Pietro didn’t have any more angels to help as he slowly starved on the street, no angel to stop him from believing Hydra’s lies. He’d seen the angel when they pushed the acceptor against his heart, but he knew that was just another one of their lies. He lived, Wanda lived, and maybe that was enough of a miracle that they didn’t need another angel.
      Then the Avengers, and then Ultron, and then the Accords- so much happened so quickly. The events hit him faster than even he could see coming. And then- and then-
                     Thanos.
           This time, Wanda died and he lived.
           He sits in the meeting room as the Avengers, those still left, talk with the woman who’d shown up looking for Fury. Tell her what happened. He hasn’t looked up yet at all. Wanda is dead. Wanda is gone. His sister, his soul, his-
           She speaks, and he knows that voice, he lifts his head and his body swats as he looks at her.
                “I know you.”

[Bucky is recovering and building a quiet life in Wakanda, but all his friends and lover are superheroes. I bet this happens a lot.]
