THE CHILDHOOD MEME
Childhood. That magical time between infancy and adulthood where you feel invincible. Where you haven't a care or responsibility in the world. It's a time where imagination runs wild and every day is a new adventure waiting to be had.
While there's plenty of fun out there in the world of adults, there's nothing that quite compares to the innocence of those early years. So, grab your juice box, your favorite toy and remember to be back before the streetlights come on.
HOW TO PLAY:
○ This meme is targeted toward the younger end of the age spectrum (15 and under), but that doesn't mean older characters aren't welcome. Does your character have a soft spot for children? Are they typically the type to be the babysitter? Or maybe they're the older sibling being dragged along to keep an eye on the younger one? Aging down is also an acceptable option, haven't we all wondered what our characters would have been like as kids?
○ Comment with your character, canon, preferences, and any other info you'd like to include.
○ Reply to others.
○ Thread and have fun!
1. PLAYGROUND/PARK : The spot where all the best childhood memories are made. Are you playing a game of tag? Are you hanging upside down on the jungle gym? Are you getting into trouble while your mom is catching up on the latest gossip?
2. SCHOOL : The place where 75% of your day is spent and lifelong friendships are forged. Maybe you're in art class, maybe you're at recess, or maybe you're on a school field trip. The possibilities are endless. Just don't be that kid eating paste.
3. MALL : For the kids on the older end of the spectrum. Whether you're at the arcade, whether you're meeting with friends, or whether your parents gave you twenty bucks to get out of their hair, you've got the entire shopping mall at your disposal.
4. CIRCUS : It's the greatest show on earth! Lion tamers! Acrobats! Elephants! Feats meant to stun and amaze you! Cotton candy the size of your head! Are you watching the show from the stands? Or is your family a part of the show?
5. THEME PARK/AMUSEMENT PARK : It's a classic vacation that's fun for the whole family. Are you the roller coaster type? Or are you the type to shy away from the thrill rides and stick to the carousel instead? Keep a hold of someone's hand, though, the only thing that can ruin a day is a lost child in the park.
6. FAIR/FESTIVAL/CARNIVAL : The theme park on a smaller scale. Sometimes the rides are a little shaky, but there's plenty of good deep fried foods and games to be played. Go out and win yourself a goldfish!
7. NEVERLAND : Yes, you read that right. Just like in Peter Pan, it's the magical place where no one has to ever grow up and adults aren't welcome. What kind of adventures will you get into? Remember, it only takes a little bit of fairy dust and good thoughts to fly.
8. WILDCARD : None of these work for you? Go ahead and created your own!

oh no, Stan. 5.
With a tight grip on Stan's wrist, he ditches their parents and pulls him towards the tallest roller coaster in the park. Stan will love it, he's sure. ]
Come on, asshole! Let's get in line before the rest of the people get there!
no subject
Stan rolls his eyes as the other drags him toward the ride that definitely looks like it is the King Death Trap of this place. ]
Richie... [ There's not even any snark to be had right then because he's really not looking forward to this. But he isn't exactly digging in his heels to stop Richie from dragging him along. ]
no subject
'Richie, yes!' [ He completes the sentence for his friend. This is clearly what he was meaning when Stan spoke his name. They make it to the line, which is relatively short compared to other rides in the park, so the quick wait time is a blessing for Richie. ] This is fucking awesome! Are you ready?
no subject
Couldn't we do... literally any other one? [ The short wait time is super super super cursed. ]
no subject
Fuck no, Stan! This is the best one! Don't puss out on me now! We're almost there! You'll love it, I promise. It knocks you flat against your seat!
[ C'mon, Stan. Give it a chance. ]
no subject
Nothing you said is making me love it.
[ Really, he might get sick. ]
no subject
[ Richie gestures upwards to the looming roller coaster track above them with glee. ]
It's goddamn glorious! Come on, we're almost ready to board, fucking pansyass.
[ And once again, Richie has grabbed Stan's wrist and dragged him up the line's stairs and closer to the roller coaster's boarding stage. There's just an electrically-powered bar separating them for the next car now. They just need the next one to pull in and evacuate its riders before they can board it and take off on their journey into 20th-century turbulent fun. ]
no subject
Shut up, Richie.
[ Stan mutters, the other dragging him along and he very much considers telling the operator that he definitely does not want to do this but he also really can't let Richie go alone either. ]
You should probably take your glasses off.
no subject
Fine.
[ The car approaches and lets its previous occupants off. It's their turn now. ]
Ready? [ Richie grabs Stan's wrist again but not to drag him with him but to ensure he doesn't run away. He's glad he was able to see Stan well enough to grab his wrist instead of the blob of fuzziness he's looking at. ] Come on.
no subject
This is basically a death trap.
[ Even so, they're both getting strapped into the car and Stan is gripping the bar tightly. ]

He waved at the guy who'd dropped him off and ran to his mom's place, banging his way inside and making a beeline to the kitchen.
"Hi, Mom!" he called, completely not noticing the fact that there was someone sitting at the kitchen table. Instead, he stuck his head inside the fridge to try to figure out what he wanted to eat before working on his homework.
no subject
Still, the human part of her caught up to the wolf side, catching the cheerful "Hi, Mom!". He'd moved by too fast for her to fully compare him to the pictures scattered around the house, but he obviously had to be one of Mrs. Manes' sons, probably the youngest.
Her own homework was scattered across the table, but she didn't move back to it, yet, staying where she was, even as she spoke up.
"She's not here."
no subject
"Hey, uh..." He blinked at her because it looked as if he'd startled her as much as the reverse.
But the question was, who was she? It wasn't like he had some kind of sister he didn't know about. And sure, maybe it was possible that his mom had gotten a boyfriend, but definitely not one who'd gotten her pregnant... Well, she looked about as old as he was.
"I'm Alex?" he said, as if he didn't know his own name. But this whole thing was confusing him. Who was this girl who looked as if she were doing her homework in his mom's house when she wasn't even home?
no subject
Then, it occurred to her that the simplest explanation of the truth really was still true. He didn't need all the sordid details.
"I'm Hayley," she said, moving back toward the table, though she kept it between him and her. "My parents kicked me out, and your mom took me in, once the tribe said I could stay here."
There. Short and sweet and nothing about Michael or wolves to complicate matters.
"I'm sorry I startled you." But, to be fair, he'd startled her, too. "Your mom didn't say you were coming by today."
no subject
But that was more a question for his mom. As long as she was who she said she was, she probably didn't want to answer questions by nosy teenagers. And if she wasn't who she said she was, it wasn't like Alex was going anywhere. Not unless his dad found out he'd come here and took him home, but there was fat chance of that. At least not for hours.
"Yeah, well, Mom doesn't know. Dad doesn't want me coming out here, but..." He shrugged. He knew he was supposed to respect his father and all of that, but he didn't really feel like respecting someone who didn't really seem to care about him. Fear him maybe, but not respect.
He nodded his head at the fridge. "You, ahh, want anything?"
no subject
"Dads are the worst." Not what she meant to say, but it comes out, something in that shrug triggering something familiar in her. She's good at the shrugging things off thing, not dwelling on things if she doesn't have to.
The question about the refrigerator gets him a smile, though. "Sure. I could use a snack."
She still wasn't sure about just getting things, scared of crossing the line somehow and getting thrown out again.
no subject
"So how long have you actually been here? Mom never said anything about you coming, but I suppose that would have waited until she picked me up or something." Even though she knew that he came by unofficially sometimes. More often than he convinced his dad to let him come. Still, she couldn't know exactly when he'd show up.
He poured them both a glass and handed her one.
no subject
But he was Mrs. Manes' son, so she made herself relax a little bit more, and gave him a smile.
"It wasn't really a plan she could've told you about in advance," she assured him. "I've only been here with her a couple of weeks. I was in Roswell for about a month before that."
no subject
He sighed and opened one of the candy bars. "I really need to get out here more often."
He picked up the corner of one of her books. "You going to the res school, then?"
no subject
So, maybe she hadn't felt like telling Alex about a girl who might not be around by the time he could come out here. But Hayley still felt a little guilty, like she'd done something wrong, or was a secret to be hidden away. Which, she supposed, she kinda was.
She nodded a little bit at his question. "Yeah. It's too far for her to take me in to Roswell every day, even if I'd rather go there."
Not because there was anything wrong with the res school, but because Michael was in Roswell.
