[Even when Claude's taking a life-threatening risk, there's a careful calculation to it. He hates leaving things to risk, after all. And with the war over and peace restored to Fódlan, you'd figure having to resort to such measures would be unnecessary.

And you'd be wrong.

Having left the ruling of the united land to Byleth, it's finally time for Claude to return to his homeland, to begin his work there. Well, almost. It hadn't been part of the Plan, but he can't just leave like this, with Dimitri who knows where.

Even with his wyvern, tracking the man down takes a few weeks. Claude's not used to the cold of what used to be northern Faerghus, and his poor wyvern can stand it even less, so he sends her south, knowing she's more than capable of caring for herself until he fetches her.

He continues the search on foot, finally arriving at the mouth of a cave. Inside are signs of a fire, a pile of animal furs forming a makeshift bed. And not much else.

The knowledge that this is where Dimitri has been staying sits in his chest like a stone. Claude pulls his coat tighter around himself and sits on the pile of furs to wait, grateful at least to get out of the biting wind. The most dangerous part of his journey, the frankly stupid risk-- when Dimitri returns to find him there-- has yet to come.

He'd seen an abandoned farmhouse not far from where he'd sent Pruscilla off-- the first order of business, given Dimitri doesn't kill him, is to convince him to go there with Claude.]
