[ Was there any real reason for their relationship to be a secret? Not really- Audrey would like to point out that it was very in to be dating VK's, and honestly it's a nice change of pace from having the same old dating pool she has her entire life.

But there was also the thrill of having a secret relationship. Keep the ridiculous tabloids gossiping, everyone guessing- she and Ben were old news. And now Ben had his own fiancée for the reporters to go silly over. But she was still going to be in the public eye as the daughter of Aurora and she technically didn't need Ben for his title. She had one of her own.

The best part about Fairy Cottage, now that she wasn't using it as a base for all her evil deeds? It's very much out of the way of everything... and it's practically impossible to find unless you know exactly where to look. It makes it perfect for a sneaky rendezvous or several.

[ winning a war, in a lot of ways, feels straightforward; the aftermath feels almost bizarre in comparison. or at least it does to felix, who never relished in the idea of coming into his father's title to begin with — sylvain and ingrid seem to have transitioned into their new lives much more seamlessly, and while dimitri doesn't let it openly show as much as felix does, he suspects that dimitri is closer to him on the "level of feeling overwhelmed, confused, and frustrated" scale than he is their other childhood friends.

it is, therefore, because he's a Very Thoughtful Person that he tries to find a few excuses to get dimitri a well-deserved break whenever they're in the same place at the same time. it has nothing to do with personal enjoyment, and everything to do with felix being considerate of dimitri's need to "manage stress or whatever, alright?" as he put it when sylvain started poking fun at him for so consistently finding reasons to pry dimitri away from his banally royal duties. "i do not ask him out on secret dates, as you put it," he had then added, sounding very annoyed at the fact that he really had to use the word dates to describe what they do.

thus, by the word of duke felix hugo fraldarius, highest ranking member of the faerghus nobility, steward of one of the largest kingdom territories: they don't go on dates, whether secret or otherwise. that would just be disgusting. especially right now, as they stroll through the young orchard that ingrid had planted on her family's humble estate late in the previous year, just in time that the apple flowers would bloom in the spring. it's just two important guys doing important agricultural surveying... never mind the fact that felix wouldn't recognize whether a fruit tree is growing up well unless it spontaneously became capable of human speech and directly told him as much.

he's pretty sure ingrid also thinks they go on "secret dates", based on the look she gave him before they left the galatea residence. this is very annoying and he considers it a serious problem, probably the second most distressing issue on his mind after whether the fraldarius territory needs another tax reform, which is why he's only listening to about 25% of what dimitri's attempting to communicate to him. thinking "do we need to build another orphanage?" followed up by "is it really abnormal to hold hands occasionally in private?" means his mind is currently on the roller coaster of his life. ]

— What? [ he summons all the common courtesy he's going to extend for the rest of the week to follow up: ] Come again. [ extended pause... ] I wasn't listening.

[ in conclusion: (1) he will fund the orphans, and (2) screw sylvain for poisoning his mind since childhood, and not in the fun way. ]

[ Dimitri's coronation, as expected, comes with a renewed sense of vigor and joy to the people of Faerghus. The fervor is matched only by the new archbishop that has taken Rhea's place - and even that is a celebration that pales in comparison, Byleth believes.

Becoming a teacher at Garreg Mach has changed her in many ways. While she's never been a very expressive person, fighting alongside her students and embracing this strange and divine power within her has awakened a new sense of purpose in her. Gone are the solitary days where her and her father traveled from town to town in search of mercenary work, where no face was ever seen twice. Now she has people who are... precious to her. People she wants to see happy and cared for.

Her new position as archbishop, while one she never wanted, is something she accepts after some time. It's how she came to be here in the first place, after all - being thrust into situations she's never expected isn't exactly new to her.

What is new, though, are the expectations placed on her. She's come to expect that the archbishop and King of Faerghus will need to have a working political relationship for the sake of Fodlan, but the reality to that never really compared. And how could it, when the same man is also the one who asked for her hand in marriage?

It doesn't quite dawn on Byleth right away that this may become a problem. However, during Dimitri's coronation ceremony, she is acutely aware of all the eyes watching them. Searching for how they'll work together to create this era of peace they so desperately want to craft in the wake of tragedy, retainers keeping close as Byleth approaches him. She bows in polite greeting as one would expect in front of the new king. The smile on her face is small, but warm. ]

Congratulations on your coronation, Your Majesty. I look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with the Kingdom for rebuilding Fodlan.
