Little family

the "Starting a Family" meme
Nature is no respecter of persons, my friends. Whether it be childhood friends, newlyweds, or one-night stands, a single decision or accident can change everything, and there will be three people instead of just two.
Congratulations! The characters in these threads and those who reply to them are now expecting babies, no matter what their unique situation may be. Of course, depending on the characters, this might go over like a lead balloon. But wait! Even if the decision to have a baby was made and was consensual, the process is no walk in the park. There is lots to do...and only nine months to do it. Nine potentially drama-filled months.
HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character, preferences, etc.
- Not all options here are fluffy and happy. Some are potentially angsty or possibly triggering. Tread lightly. Be sure to mention what you want and what you don't want.
- Reply to others.
- For this, male characters can get pregnant because why not.
PROMPTS
- How'd It Happen: What led up to this event? How are you in this situation?
- Realization: There's a wrench in the works...or maybe it was expected, but you're just realizing you're pregnant.
- Positive Reaction: Yes, after all this time and planning! You're finally ready for a family.
- Negative Reaction: Oh, no. This is terrible. You're in no position to take care of a child!
- Freak Outs: But...how? You're a human, she's an alien, how -
- Deciding What to Do: If this wasn't planned, there needs to be a plan of action now.
- Keep it Secret: You're attempting to keep your pregnancy a secret from your partner. This is only a bandaid for the bigger problem.
- Telling Others: The other people in you two's life have to know at some point.
- Drama: No one wanted you to have a kid and the anger is palpable.
- Morning Sickness and More: Everything hurts and the mornings are hell.
- Learning: If you're in a technologically advanced society, you may get to see an ultrasound. Otherwise, there are folk remedies that can be tried.
- Manipulation: One of you is using the prospect of a child to bend the other to their will and make them stay.
- My Body is a Cage: The person carrying the baby is having a decent amount of discomfort, mentally and physically.
- Showing: It's a secret no longer with an expanding stomach.
- Support: The partner who isn't carrying the child should do their best to be there and help out...
- Overprotective: ...but to a degree. Don't act like the partner carrying the child is made of paper.
- Getting Ready: The house or apartment or castle has to be babyproof.
- Heart to Heart: It's time to talk about the big changes before the happen. Where do the two of you stand?
- It's Happening: THE BABY IS COMING.
- Rough Going: Childbirth is still a dangerous affair and there's no smooth sailing for you. So pace if you're lucky, scream in the bed if you're not.
- Bad End: Not all new beginnings last. Sometimes, they become unhappy endings.
- Coming Home: Finally, parents and baby get to settle down.
- Getting Used to This: Well, maybe settle down. There's still crying in the night, feedings to do, diapers to change...

Apparently Ember, or some other deity decided to say fuck that and bless the pair with a child. One that Rey had no idea how she'd raise it, care for it, or even what to do. Hell, she didn't know how far along she was, and thought her morning sickness was some common cold going around--every one was seemingly getting it! Tick had it, then Margo, Josh, then Eliot. Honestly, it was being passed from one person to another.
Thank goodness Josh knew how to make this delicious soup from chicken to make things better before it became more wide spread.
But, for Rey, she didn't get better. Confided to bed rest, and a doctor to check up on her where they delivered such wonderful news that made the young consort utterly shocked. How was she going to tell Eliot? Sure, it was a blessing, and yes she was happy (sort of? More freaked out than anything.) but were they ready for such a huge responsibility?
She didn't know, and the only way she felt like she could honestly cop with the news....go back to old habits.
Screw staying in bed. Rey managed to pull herself together and started to fuss about in the kitchen, making tiny cakes because that felt like the only thing she could do RIGHT at the moment...and maybe while mixing the batter, she'd figure out how to tell her husband.]

That day was no different. He hurried to the kitchen to grab himself some lunch but was surprised to see Rey up and at 'em, mixing batter in a bowl.)
Well hello, my beautiful wife.
(He grinned, walking up to hold a hand against her side. He leaned in and kissed her cheek, reaching up with one graceful hand to wipe a bit of flour from her skin.)
Are you feeling better? I've missed you so.

(Eliot and Seunwoo had spent many nights together imagining a family together - a beautiful little girl cradled in their arms they'd come to call Iseul, Eliot weaving tales of how she had Seunwoo's hair and Seunwoo hoping she had Eliot's eyes. So when one day Eliot had come to him and told him that there was a ritual, something ancient, that they could use to raise their life force together as a living being, Seunwoo agreed without hesitation. The preparation had taken weeks. The moons' phases had to be just right, the sky needed to be clear, they had to travel a great distance and spend a large sum of money to acquire the proper reagents and materials. But at long last they had been able to perform the ritual.
The images were still etched deep in his brain - the recitation of words he'd never heard, Eliot's hands glowing with intense magic, the letting of their bood into the pool before them where it swirled and churned before exploding skyward like some sort of possessed geyser, causing Seunwoo to cling onto Eliot like a scared child. He still wasn't used to magic. Still isn't, if he's honest, but the chance at a child using both of their blood was something he was willing to risk for.
With assurances from Eliot that the ritual had worked properly they returned to their daily, mundane lives on the farm. The harvest time was coming too, so Seunwoo's been busying himself with the reaping of the wheat, the collection of the fruits on their land, and the usual baking of goods to help them afford raw materials like threads and fabrics and animal products they couldn't produce on their own farm. And then, out of the corner of his eye he spots a large, bulky-looking bird-like... Thing? Flying down from the sky towards them.)
Uh, Eliot? What is that?
(Calling out to his husband - their marriage had been fantastic, thanks for asking - he points up at the object that's fast-approaching them.)

It certainly seemed to take a 9 month incubation time, anyway.
He's made sure they have some supplies for when the baby arrives...however the baby arrives. The details on that are still a little fuzzy for him. He's got some bottles, cloth diapers, a bassinet he'd asked one of the basket weavers to craft for them. Everything is in gender neutral colors, of course, yellows mostly. It's pretty. It matches the interior of their little shack so nicely.
He's still chopping firewood. Like always. A neverending task to make sure they have enough to keep them warm through the winter that is fast approaching. And then...he hears Seunwoo call out to him.
He wipes his brow and looks up, squinting against the sun, trying to see what was descending toward them.
And he panics a little, dropping the ax to hurry to Seunwoo's side just in case he needs to do some ask kicking.)
Hey!
(He tries to get the attention of...whatever it is.)
What do you want!

Mister... Waugh? And Mister Min?
(The bird speaks, looking down its beak at the list on the clipboard.)
Um... That's us.
(Nervously, the Korean is clutching at his lover's hands, trying to figure out exactly what the hell is going on here.)
Delivery. Completion of the birth ritual. Sign here, please.
(He can't fucking believe this shit. Is that a baby in the bundle?! He looks over at Eliot in both shock and excitement. The bird is impatiently looking at them, holding the clipboard out to the two stunned men.)

Oh...for fucks sake, Fillory.
(He scrubs a hand over his face because the ridiculousness of it all washes over him and makes him want to roll his eyes until he realizes that it's a stork. It's a stork. With a baby. Delivering their baby. Holy shit.)
I mean, yeah um. Okay.
(He doesn't let go of Seunwoo's hand and signs the clipboard with the other. God, this is so fucked up.
Then he looks to the stork who hands over the sling he's carrying the bundle in to Eliot and Eliot doesn't really know what to do for a moment and he's left feeling very awkward.)
Um...thanks....stork dude...
(He can't believe he just said that but he can't face palm, either, considering he's scrambling to hold the bundle in his arms the correct way and it makes him realize he has no idea what the hell he's doing or how to properly hold a baby.)
Oh my god. What do I do?
