the blip meme - post avengers: endgame au meme
"The snap" is when everybody disappeared at the end of Infinity War but "the blip" is when everybody returned at the end of Endgame.
After the snap, so many people moved on with their lives, leaving who they were behind, only to have the people from their past reappear. It's been FIVE YEARS. Joys reunions will be had. Things will have changed. And some might have been happy to have certain people disappear entirely.
Now that people have returned, there's gonna be some weirdness experienced on both sides. Now go forth and play it out as you see fit.
You know the rules.

[ for him, it had been the mere blink of an eye. the span of time between one breath and the next. ]
How long has it been? How long have I been gone?
[ had she mentioned that to him? if she had, he wants to hear it again. ]

[ She can tell that the truth is beginning to set in. She doesn't know how she would take it if she were in his position, but she doesn't think either of them would take it well.
It feels like her hold on him is for both of them now, instead of just herself. ]

[ he stiffens, eyes going wide. five years. he's been gone for five years. he's been somewhere else for five years and he has no memory of it. he spins in a circle, like that might show him the reason for this...situation but everyone looks just as confused as him.
his heart is beating rapidly and he hates feeling so, so out of sorts. ]
It...it can't be. I don't remember five years. I don't.
no subject
This had been outside all of their control.
She tugs at his arm with both hands now, trying to focus his attention in on her again. ]
Illiya, it's alright. Well, not alright. But it will be. [ She looks around them. Everyone is too distracted by their own confusion and reunions and excitement to notice them, but still, her instincts tell her not to linger. Not like this. ]
I have a hotel room. We should go there and we can talk.
no subject
[ he doesn't move, staying in place and staring at her like he might be able to tell just from looking at her what this is. because it cannot be what she says it is. ]
How did you know I would be here?
no subject
[ She wants to ask him to trust her, but she knows that isn't easy. Not from his standpoint when their partnership was so new. Not when she had, in fact, betrayed him in her own way. ]
If you want we can contact U.N.C.L.E. Waverly will confirm what I tell you.
no subject
No. I don't want to contact anyone. I don't want to go anywhere. I want to stay here and figure out what has happened to me. I want answers.
[ that are more than you lost five years of your life and you have no memory of them. ]
no subject
Because she doesn't have them.
The only thing she can do is to keep her hold on him as if she were a ballast. ]
Illya. We've been looking into it ever since it happened, and we don't know. We don't know how or why. The answers...they aren't there.
no subject
[ he leans on that because the other option makes him queasy. five years. what has he lost in five years? why was he chosen to be taken?
he rubs a hand over his face and shakes his head. ]
I need to sit down.
no subject
[ That's a reasonable request, given the circumstances. If it were her she might have said she needed a drink. ]
The cafe's right over there if you don't want to go back to the hotel just yet.
no subject
[ so, he pulls his wrist out of hers and makes his way to the cafe. there's an empty chair sitting askew and he drops into it, suddenly exhausted by all that's happened. ]
I do not...I have no memory of the last five years. There is nothing there. Nothing that proves what you are saying is what happened to me.
no subject
I understand that. And I can't offer you any proof other than the word of everyone who was left behind. I don't like it any more than you do, but that's the state of things.
no subject
What has happened in the last five years?
[ if he has truly been gone, what has he missed? ]
no subject
[ She gives him the basic rundown of the past five years, the major events and the different jobs she's worked. Enough to give him an idea of the time, but not overwhelm him. ]
So...business as usual, I suppose.
no subject
[ it just sounds so normal. so...he does not even know. illya rubs at his face and shakes his head. ]
I do not know what to think of this.
no subject
I don't either. Other than...well, it's good to see you again. [ That's the most simplistic way of putting how she feels into words, but it's the best she can manage. ]
no subject
[ and yes, he knows that that is not the same for her but he feels like he's just seen her. he'd blinked and she'd been there. he doesn't understand this and he doesn't know if he can accept it. ]
I apologize, I understand you think differently. But, I just saw you.
no subject
I'm glad for that, in a way. [ While she had struggled with losing him, she can only imagine the way Illya would have taken her disappearance. ]
You didn't suffer then. For you it is all a blink of an eye.
no subject
[ he fixes her with a look. ]
But you did.
no subject
It was...difficult.
no subject
I wish I could remember.
[ so he could help. ]
I wish I hadn't lost...five years of my life.
no subject
I wished for quite a few things, myself, after that day.
