A clanging sound makes Jane look up at the metal patchwork above her head, eyes widening both in alarm and in an unconscious attempt to see better in the dim light.

She doesn’t know where she is. More importantly, she doesn’t know when she is, though something in the Force tells her that she’s overshot her mark, that she’s further back than when she’d intended to be. Flow-walking has always been a dangerous undertaking, but she’s past being cautious; desperate times call for desperate measures, after all.

She draws in a sharp breath as pain seizes her stomach, and she peers back down at her hand, bloody from pressing a ball of cloth against the wound in her abdomen. Not fatal, but enough to keep her in place for a while.

She brings her other hand — and the blaster pistol she’s holding with it — to her lap, gritting her teeth. Something or someone is coming. From the rafters above, from the shadows around her. But there’s no kriffing way she’s going down without a fight. Not when she’s come this far. Not when she still has wrongs to right. Not when she’s yet to kill Kylo Ren.

There's a long stretch of quiet, or as quiet as a place like this can be: full of whispering echoes, random creaks, a constant deep vibration just on the edge of hearing, faint noises that all blend together. By the time they resolve into distinct footsteps, the presence is already visible, a slight, humanoid shadow on the walkway perhaps fifty meters above her.

It makes less audible noise than it does to her other senses, but not by very much: a stealthy, wary shadow even in its thoughts, projecting I'm-not-here to the best of its limited ability.

But the shadow doesn't move like it's trying to get the drop on her; doesn't, in fact, seem to have noticed her yet.

She's practically holding her breath when the shadow appears above her, though surprise flashes across her face as she picks up its thoughts. Well, whoever is after her seems to be after... him, too. Yes, she's pretty sure it's a he. But though the temptation to dive further into the Force is great, she decides against it, content to simply reach for the overflow of his thoughts and feelings. No use revealing her position when she can stay hidden in the shadows—

A wave of something in the Force suddenly washes over her, making the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end. A warning. Danger, and close. She glances up the walkway, searching for the stranger, desperation coursing through her veins as thickly as adrenaline. Screw not giving herself away.

Behind you!

Two, maybe three seconds later, a shot rings out from the darkness.

Another clang, and a hissing gasp as the shadow dives for what little cover the intersecting beams afford. A rapid pulse of fear-anger-fear, smothered almost at once under a surge of sheer, obstinate defiance. Not today, you don't, he thinks, clear and forceful as the blaster shot.

A rattling of stairs. A bitten-off curse. A second of sick, shivery vertigo.

He lands hard, struggles to his feet a stone's throw in front of her: young, wiry, scruffy, half winded.

Freezes, as he catches sight of her.

She jerks when he lands in front of her, and the sudden movement brings a surge of pain through her body, enough to make her teeth clench. But her attention is quickly taken by him, the dim light illuminating his features enough for her to commit to memory.

Fingers tighten around her blaster pistol, though her eyes never leave his face. She’s searching, trying to figure out who he is, or at least a hint of who he is, so she in turn can figure out when she is, and what sort of trouble she’s gotten herself into.

Then there’s that cold wave in the Force again, and in a second her arm’s up, firing a shot just over his shoulder and at the enemy sneaking up behind him.

“Kriff,” she swears as she misses.

The shadow-boy dives to the side, hits the floor and rolls and scrambles up again, breathing fast and hard. He's out of arm's reach, at least, but not out of range of the pistol, still less of his pursuer's heavier, uglier weapon, and he keeps moving with panic speed, dodging behind the nearest support column--

--closer to the girl than to the other because she's closer to his size at least, he might be able to handle her, get her between - except she's still down and she's aiming--

"Your girlfriend can't get you out of this one, kid."

He freezes again. What--?

so sorry, i really am the queen of slow welp :c

She freezes, too, but her surprise actually spills out of her mouth. "What?"

Because that couldn't have been right, could it? Girlfriend? Though if they're on the same side by virtue of having a common enemy, she supposes it's easy to make that association, nevermind that it's not true.

She shakes her head. What's more important is that she now knows this boy isn't her enemy. At least, not at the moment. It doesn't mean he's not a threat, but she'll deal with that later.

There's that feeling again. "Duck," she hisses, not even sure if she could be heard above the sudden explosion of noise, but just in case, she brings up a Force shield in front of the support column he's hiding behind — it's weak, but it should hold for a couple blaster shots, and buy him some time to get away.
