For over a millennium, Loki has borne a set of words on his right shoulder, curling across the top of the deltoid in angular script. He's had it since before the language it's written in took its current form, though the Allspeak translated it for him early on. He's never been able to decipher what exactly it meant--which was maddening--even with the Allspeak's help. Even after extensive research into the wildlife of Midgard.

Until now, that is. During the battle of New York, he was too absorbed with his terrible tasks to think on it, but now he has lost, he has failed, and it's only a matter of time before he longs for something as sweet as pain. And since that defeat is in large part due to his newly-discovered soulmate, he wants to make damn sure he knows about it.

And so, after the battle, before Thor is permitted to take his brother away for judgment in Asgard, Loki demands to see Tony Stark, in private. Shackled and behind bars, he nevertheless manages to unfasten the zips and hooks on his tunic, and so when the human enters, he gives him a long, flat look before tugging the fabric and leather aside and exposing the words. They're even in Tony's handwriting.

"Do you have any idea how long I've been trying to figure out what Reindeer Games is meant to mean?"

He's deeply annoyed by all of this. He wants to laugh, to cry, and potentially to fling the human through another window.

When Aziraphale and Crowley had disguised themselves by trading physical forms, there was nothing special about it. Granted, it wasn't easy by any stretch and it took several tries to get it right, but the process has looked and felt like any other miracle. The physical changes were like a real version of a sleight-of-hand trick. It had been on an unusually impressive scale by their standards, certainly, but except for being impossible, it was completely normal.

The subtle white glow that washed over them when they changed back, however, was so unexpected that Aziraphale immediately discounted the possibility that it had really happened at all. His eyes were playing tricks on him, probably from the transition back from seeing through slit pupils. Or it might be something even sillier. Nothing to be concerned about.

Well, maybe the fact that some of the glow had lingered on for few seconds after the rest had faded. It looked for all the world as if it was centered on Crowley's heart. Too stunned to realize that his own had done the same thing, Aziraphale just stared. It wasn't possible. Unlike boring old impossible miracles, this was really impossible, because...

Angels don't have souls.
