Lydia knew she had absolutely terrible taste in guys, and this guy wasn't far out of line with them. Dark, intense, commanding, slightly stupid, and easy to manipulate, and she was pretty sure she realised who he really was even if he wasn't in uniform. And she expected some bruises of the fun kind.

And apparently her prattling had got under his skin a little, but there was only one way to answer being told to shut up. She tasted her lips, dropped her voice low, and raised one eyebrow. "Make me." And if he didn't get that hint there was little hope for him, especially as she'd seen how he reacted to her short skirt and tight top.

They arrive at Chateau Haine a day before the hunt is scheduled, with the duke evidently still out overseeing preparations for the post-event banquet, leaving Hawke and the others to be herded politely into the guest wing of the castle. Tallis and Isabela vanish in an instant, ostensibly to find their own rooms and more likely to liberate the estate of anything pocket-sized and not nailed down, while Hawke follows the steward to the quarters set aside for her, Fenris close enough that she can brush their hands together as they walk, and smile when she catches his glance.

When she refused to let the steward take Fenris to the servants quarters and firmly shut the door in his face, the expression under his mask had been a scandalized one -- no doubt appalled that she didn't even have the manners to pretend she wasn't bedding her "manservant," but to the void with that. She spent three achingly long years sleeping alone after he left her the first time, and she'll be damned if she ever has to spend a single night more without him in her arms. If not for having accepted the invitation on Tallis' instruction long before, they would still be in her estate, rigorously making up for all those years, and whether it ruins the cover or not, there's no way she could pretend that Fenris doesn't mean the world to her.

The room itself is as Orlesian as they come, ostentatious and gaudy, though Hawke would never say no to a bed that big. Barely sparing the effort it takes to remove her staff holster and let the whole thing thump indelicately to the plushly carpeted floor, Hawke turns and flings herself backward onto the covers, limbs spread wide and still not even close to reaching the edges. Maker, that's soft.

Unable to smother her grin, she extends a hand out toward Fenris with exaggerated delicacy, reaching for him like an ailing dowager. "My love, come kiss me on this hideous bed. I need reassurance that its ugliness won't keep you away from me."

[ Skyhold is a delightful mix of old and new. A lot had been intact when they arrived from Haven, the bones sturdy enough to withstand being abandoned for centuries. But plenty of things were new or had been restored since then; chandeliers, doors, locks, ceiling supports. Name it and Gatsi and his group had probably had a hand in bringing the fortress back to life.

Of course, that meant he's had plenty of fun figuring out the sound and threshold of each lock. It was an idle curiosity, really, though it certainly was one of the many reasons Leliana had kept him around. He just liked to know he could get in somewhere he wasn't supposed to. So far, the only doors he's left alone have been the ones leading to the War Room and Leliana's own room. He doesn't want to have to explain himself on that one, though there's a chance she might understand.

So no, the Inquisitor's quarters have not been off the table. He's been in there before, by invitation, but that takes the thrill out sometimes. Ryder's just gotten back from a mission involving a brokered deal with the Crows. Report already turned in, he still feels full of enough curious mischief that he easily picks his way into Finel's quarters. Nosy, he skim-reads what's on the desk and then ends up out on the balcony, staring out at the way the shadows play on the mountains, how the setting sun burnishes everything into a pink-orange. ]
