recognised as a social contract. Unions were entered into for many
reasons: to obtain property, to unite families, to carry on a bloodline,
et cetera. Whatever the reason, congratulations, you're getting married!

POSSIBLE REASONS FOR MARRIAGE:
① Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you.
② Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families.
③ Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down.
④ Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable.
⑤ Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war.
⑥ Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection.

[For a vampire, he sure does keep a lot of holy weapons stashed around the Castle. True, it does make things more sporting, but just this once, he is not after a fight. He's amused at the peacemaking he's done, seeking a Belmont as his helpmate from the parasitic humans and their Church and oh how willing to oblige they all were.

So here he is, in ermine and leather, waiting, a proper array of amusing (some might call sentimental) accoutrements to give to the unfortunate creature.]

[ Through no real fault of her own, Korra couldn't say that she had attended a formal party that hadn't ended in disaster. Her last and only gala became the catalyst that resulted in her being plunged into an all out war, and that was simply a customary party thrown in honour of her arrival as the Avatar.

Korra wasn't what anyone would call skittish or resigned, but the scenarios kept playing in her head ad nauseum what sort of negative impact the celebration of an arranged marriage would wrought. And that wasn't even touching on her own reservations (read: barely contained upset) over having her hand given to a total stranger in the first place. As the Avatar and only relative of the Northern tribal chieftain being handed off like this was to be expected, but it was hardly a comfort to her fraying nerves.

To her credit, she made every conscious effort not to set the place on fire and just go home. Instead she pulled and tore at the napkin in her lap until its woven fabric came apart. Seated by the head of the great, golden table to the left of her soon to be step-relatives and across from her intended with his long, light-coloured hair and impressive physicality. She wouldn't have pegged him as royalty if it weren't for that stupid smirk of his and decked out attire.

Asgard wasn't a terrible place, in fact even she could appreciate its beauty and grand design. Korra only wished she could have seen it as a visitor and not some glorified captive about to have her life handed over to some jerk that liked to talk about hammers. After a time when the party settled to a dull roar did she even say anything, ]

[She couldn't say she was pleased with her situation. It had been brought up time and again that she was the heir to the Hellsing family, and in turn, must produce an heir of her own.

However, since after unlocking a certain vampire, her father noticed her becoming too affectionate towards the creature. While Integra wasn't the sort of lady to dote on marriage or romance, the situation was off-putting enough for her father to push her into an engagement with the first agreeable bachelor of his choice... which for all she knew was an upper-class twit of 'fine English-breeding'. How ironic given her mother's Indian heritage. At least her father had a say in the matter of whom he wed.

She was to meet her fiancee for the first time at a posh restaurant in the Greater London area. She dressed in her finest suit, opting against a dress, not wanting to give him the false impression she was happy about her circumstances, or had the slightest interest in matrimony whatsoever.

Begrudgingly, she made it to the restaurant, and was seated a by waitress who was expecting her as she came in.]

[Assassins don't typically get married. Something to do with objections to the lifestyle, not sticking around long enough to produce more elves, or the general untrustworthiness perceived in them. Not that Zevran has any particular reason to kill some girl from the Denerim alienage, at least none that he knows of, yet.

How he got roped into this is a bit complicated. It involved running into a would-be groom the night before his wedding, waking up in his bed the next morning to tears and oh the begging, and hadn't you said you wanted to start over, Zevran? You like women, right? Please, I can't go through with this. And he'd run off to find the Dalish but left his purse and a fine set of clothes, and Zevran thought he hadn't been to nearly enough weddings where he wasn't planning to kill someone, so why not?

A wife would be excellent cover.

The situation in Denerim seems poised for a conflict, with tension growing between the banns and the king gallivanting off to stop the Blight as if that's an easy thing to do. Zevran has heard Ignacio is working this city, but surely there will be enough dirty work when the time comes. It's nice to have a change of scenery sometimes. Even if the scenery is... brown. Mostly stinking of dog. Full of high walls.

When Zevran claims to be from the Antivan alienage and makes up some story about Nelaros being of the women-disliking type running off to join the Dalish and his hahren sending him along as consolation (since, sadly, the girl he'd been sent to in their alienage was already with someone else's child), everyone swallows it without a second thought. If the mousy girl who's also meeting her intended suspects any wrong doing, she's too preoccupied with own worries about the upcoming nuptials to say any more. It's a bit refreshing to not be viewed with the immediate suspicion that follows being Antivan, though it is a trifle naive of everyone involved.

And the noblemen come barging in with loud, lewd voices and generally being very poor party guests. Zevran grits his teeth, but it's difficult not to intervene. Fortunately, the spirited redheaded lass seems to have the situation well in hand... except for the part where she brains the arl's son. That... probably is going to cause trouble later. Still, Zevran goes for his most charming smile and bow when Kallia is before him at last. She's pleased to see she's quite beautiful, and her gait, poise and alertness suggest strength and training - which makes her all the more intriguing.]

Nobles bullying elf women... and here I was worried I would grow to miss Antiva. Let us hope the boy returns with his tail between his legs to lick his wounds in silence.
