Everybody knows that couple: those two people with eyes only for each other, willing to do anything for their partner to make their day, utterly smitten. Disgusting.

...except now you've found yourself in a relationship like that, no matter your suitability or probability of even ending up in one in the first place. Yes, I'm talking to innocent cuties and bloodthirsty villains, revenge-driven sociopaths, philandering playboys, vowed stoics and terrorists, noble knights, basketcases, mercenaries, old folks, teenagers, and Big Dumb Heroes. Not to mention everybody in between.

You're shmoopy. In your own way, of course. Aside from possibly everything ever that's existed in the universe at any given point, what could go wrong?

[He is a cute schmoopy dork under that armor. His actual life goals include a summer wedding, carving jewelry for his theoretical wife (or husband) and cuddling. Have at 'em.]

[ ooc: Oh man, SO MANY, but I feel like cuddling should definitely be a priority. She'd super touched if he gave her anything, and also I am a sucker for the forbidden love trope. The prospect of her meeting his family would certainly be interesting to navigate. I'm pretty open to everything. ]

[Ukiuvak still feels, despite the time that he has spent with Sam, that his understanding of humans is limited. What he does understand is that she is more like him than he would have thought a human could be. They have both felt as if they were drowning on land in the sea of their thoughts, unable to cry out for help. They've learned to put on brave faces for other people. That they don't have to for each other feels like the best gift that she ever could have given him, so he sets about trying to find something for her. She deserves something nice in life.

He immediately decides that she needs something she can carry on her or with her. If her powers render her unable to speak with others or be seen again, she needs to have some fragment of reality to hold onto. A coat is rather impractical, given the climates she favors, and he is chronically unfashionable even by the standards of his own people. Gloves are not an every day item for humans. Most necklace and earring sets his people have are religious, and that would feel a bit awkward on her end, he imagines, not being versed in the faith. Ukiuvak settles on the one thing he knows he can acquire without anyone in the markets asking who it's for and what he can imagine Sam actually using: hair combs. Made of sleek, polished white bone, intricate wave patterns are worked into the handles leading up to an engraved, leaping narwhal. The set of two is likely more than she needs, but can be interlocked into hair to stay in place. Whoever made them had blended red iyabak in the bone around the narwhal's tusk, creating a more colorful effect.

Getting the gift is not as awkward or difficult as figuring out when and how to give it to her. Ukiuvak usually just leaves things in his friend's dropoff boxes back home or with their families, to be given to them when they get home. He leaves things in both of his sister's houses, because that's less likely to end with them trying to get him to sit down and talk about his problems. He doesn't want to talk about his problems with them, which admittedly is a real risk with Sam, but... inexplicably, he finds it to be one worth taking in this case. Sam doesn't make him uneasy the way his friends from the old town and his family do.

This is how he finds himself holding out a box to her a bit unceremoniously the next time they meet. There's hair combs, sweet Arctic berry candy, and a shaker's worth of qusrimmak spice. He very clearly has no idea what he's doing, going off of the nervous scuffing of his foot back and forth on the ground, but he tries to play it cool regardless.]

Here, this is for you. I thought - well, I will likely not be available when my people's summer festival starts, but giving gifts to one's friends is a part of that. And you have been a good friend to me. I hope you like it.

[ Sam looks forward to Ukiuvak's visits. Granted he's not her only friend. She has a social life, albeit a limited one, and a handful of fellow atypicals she keeps in touch with, but it seems more and more to her that they all have their own interests and pursuits to keep them busy, and Sam is left worrying over whether she's bothering them when she calls or drops by to see them. They reassure her that she isn't, but she can't shake the uneasy feeling that they're growing apart nonetheless, and now that she's had a taste of what it's like to have friends, the loneliness hits her harder than it would have in the past when she didn't know any different. She doesn't have the same doubts when Ukiuvak visits. If he didn't want to spend time with her, she reasons, he wouldn't. That would be easier. And while she's sorry for the trouble it may be for him, that he makes the effort to come to her is reassuring.

She spends a lot of her time in a house outside the city now, far enough away to be closer to nature, but not totally isolated from civilization. It's easier for Uviuvak to reach, and if called on the fact that that may be why she spends so much time there now, she would absolutely turn red to very the tips of her ears.

It's a nice day so she's taken her work to the screened in porch, and she's buried herself in her work, sorting through histories and files, documenting her own accounts of what she's seen on her trips, and building a database, so that when he arrives, she's dressed for comfort in leggings, an oversized shirt and a messy updo. She looks tired, but her expression brightens when she sees him, and she greets him with a smile and an invitation to come in, apologizing for the mess as she fusses anxiously, debating out loud whether she should make tea, or if he'd even like that. Maybe they should just sit down, and- ]

Oh. [ She's silent for a moment as she processes the gesture. She's not used to receiving gifts from others, and she struggles with accepting them gracefully. ] You didn't need to- I mean, that- that's so nice of you.

[ Good. Now they're both flustered, though Sam looks pleased despite the awkward speech, and her cheeks are warm. ]

Um, thank you. I- [ She remembers that this is the part where she should be taking the box from him and does so. ] Would you like to sit down?

[ She gestures to a bench near the table she's taken over with her research and assuming he accepts the invitation, she looks up at him shyly. ]

Should I- ah, would you like me to open it now?

[ Bluey, who's been awkwardly following him for at least two days, finally has the courage to approach him and offer these, what looks to be purple marshmallows. ]

[There is nothing about this that is remotely comfortable. The following, the wide-eyed staring, the foreignness of the substance, the fact that nothing in Ieuqut diet is remotely akin to marshmallows - this is all incredibly awkward and Ukiuvak's initial reaction is to recoil slightly.]

...what are these?

[Not the most grateful of replies, but what else is he supposed to say to such creepy behavior coupled with a random gift? He takes a half-step back, wondering if it's ethical to try to scare off the stalker with his powers or if that might send this clearly mentally unbalanced man - who follows someone for two days without being crazy, really? - over the edge.]

[ In general, Bluey comes off as extremely odd. He's usually extremely confident and will brag about his hair, good looks and outfits to just about anyone but when he has a crush he gets so shy that he just... sort of stalks someone, hoping to be noticed. It's not easy to discreetly follow people when you're this flashy. ]

Space mallows, they're me favorite sweets. [ He's still staring. Blink, Bluey! BLINK. Yes, looking very creepy right now. The Cockney accent doesn't help. He's so nervous it's unbelievable, fingers curled around his cape, toes pointed inwards... what if he doesn't care for space mallows?! ]

[Ukiuvak is very grateful for his mask, which allows him to cringe freely without being immediately obvious. Perhaps someone out there might find this sort of obsessive, single-minded focus on a stranger endearing; maybe in human society following a stranger around like something out of a recurring nightmare was somehow acceptable. Personally, he's been doing everything in his power to ignore the staring, garish mute as much as possible in the hopes the blue man... boy... thing would lose interest.

Unfortunately, he's still here, and Ukiuvak takes another step back, making no move to reach for the food.]

[ Bluey's a grown man, just very youthful looking, someone spends most of his income on intergalactic moisturizer and it's Bluey, who at least lets out a nervous giggle now and finally blinked a few times. ]

Do- do you want something else, ploffs, glitter ufo's, twizzlers? [ Clearly the sweet offered wasn't good enough, he's panicking now and keeps offering different sweets before settling on... on motioning at himself. One Last Chance. ]
