[How do you feel about Ash getting tasked with guarding Atsushi here, who is protecting something rather valuable that people keep trying to steal from him, only to find out about how some people have superhuman abilities and how he might be in a little over his head compared to people who can turn into tigers and control gravity and such?]

no, really, he fucking hates this with every fucking fibre of his being, and maybe even every fibre of the swamp's being as well because it fucking sucks. he was stuck inside the house (his own house at least, that might be the one small give to all of this) with a fucking cat-cop under the strictest instructions that he was not to leave the other's sight. or the house. at all. for no reason.
now, maybe this wouldn't have been so bad if Sage wasn't absolutely terrible with being told to do certain things (or with established rules in general), or, you know, he and kitty detective weren't possibly the two worst matched temperaments since Sage ran into that werewolf beta at the bar three months ago. and really, fuck that guy. it was his fault that Sage was in this situation in the first place, the witch knew he should have just sank him in the mire and forgotten all about it, but nooooo, he had to let the beta go off and mouth off and--
well, now Sage is here.
with slippers sitting at his potion making table, doing paperwork.

there were many things that the Leviathan was, a protector was not one of them. not even close. he was lazy and selfish, prone to violence, and had never heard of morals in his entirely life. and yet-- here he is, stuck above with the explicit instructions that he was to make sure that no one, absolutely no one, stuck their shiny little claws into the firebird. that included himself.

The trickiest terrain, the strangest locations, the worst places in the world to try and keep an eye on a person? Dash really tries not to be that person, but there are some things one can't avoid when they lead the life he leads. Having at some point insisted on establishing some space for himself away from the whole rulership of the godly realm thing, he's back on Earth part-time to pursue the thing he was trying to do with his life before he found out he had phenomenal cosmic power.

There's an exhibit coming up and he absolutely has to get some materials. Because he's so fastidious and particular, there's only one place in the entire country where these things are available, which is why he's turned on the charm as much as he ever has to with his bodyguard and now they're negotiating some extremely narrow passages through the streets of Paris in order to find, well...
He has a list. One which he's consulting so intently right now that he's about to walk into a passerby on a moped. ]
