And they'll, again and again, find themselves wanting you, for support, for healing, for feeling alive, for venting frustration and anger, for anything and everything at all.

Here's my pitch, feel free to edit: Rey is also from District 4. Instead of falling for Annie, he falls for her and they start an innocent little thing before he gets reaped (innocent since he would have only been 14). When he gets back, he's obviously damaged, but she helps him through it. The romance continues to develop.

At 16, he starts to get sold, which is a secret few would know with Rey being among the few. We can assume she was never reaped since that would have them staying together a bit more instead of having Finnick 'always coming back'. She sees the sweet boy she knew turning into a playboy, but when he comes home to her, she's all he sees.

We can go a few ways with that: healing, with her being the foundation that anchors him and makes him remember he's something more; angst with him getting ready to leave again, though she knows he'll do his best to come back; angst with Finnick being delayed and Rey starting to doubt; whatever other scenario you may see. )

Ohhh the angst and healing ideas sound super good. Angst with Finnick being delayed and Rey feeling a tug or pull to fight back against the Capital, and healing, and being each other's anchors--and Finnick reminding Rey he'd come back regardless.

Sounds awesome. If you don't mind starting, that would be great. It's almost 1 AM, I get up at 5 AM, so still being up is already a horrible decision on my end. )

Hours turned into days, and days turned into weeks. Time ebbed and flowed at different intervals. Some hours passed by quickly, in the blink of an eye, while others dragged on for what felt like centuries. It felt like yesterday Rey was saying goodbye to Finnick, pressing her lips to his forehead and then to his own while her fingers ran through his sun kissed locks. He was changing...but that was to be expected, wasn't it?

He won the Hunger Games. he killed other people to survive. That had to stain his soul. When he returned after his victory, the orphaned girl didn't know how to approach him. If she should open her arms and hold him tightly, or give him the space he needed. It took a full day of waiting before she was at his doorstep, food in hand and held him close. He had gone through so much, something no one should go through, but it continued to happen year..after year. At least he was spared from ever participating again. At least...until he was older and then 'new opportunities' came about.

He couldn't say no, they both knew that. Soon, he was leaving for days...and then weeks. He made the same promise time after time, telling Rey to not worry and he'd come back. It was hard in the beginning, but the brunette busied herself in her work. Then came the images and the stories. Finnick Odair taking on a lover in the Capitol. Finnick, the dashing lad who was winning the hearts of so many...

Finnick...the playboy who smiled and waved at the cameras, almost as though he enjoyed being out on display.

It was more than difficult to watch. Rey tried to ignore it as best as she could, but as Finnick's trips stretched out for longer periods of time, she began to doubt his return. The sweet boy she knew from her childhood, the one she worked with and shared her small scraps with, was a distant memory. She was probably a distant memory in his mind, another orphan who wove nets and knots until their fingers were blistered and red.

Ever since Katniss and Peeta had won the Hunger Games there was some chatter of people rising up to fight. Rising up against the Capitol to take back their lives and end those cruel games. Rey thought about joining. She didn't want to waste her life in District Four, no, she wanted to make a difference. She wanted to create change...and waiting wouldn't help.

And the more she thought about it, in her tiny hut of a home, how much longer could she keep waiting for Finnick?
