Entry tags:
the rescue meme.

→ Post with your character’s name, canon, and any preferences in the subject line
→ Those tagging, go to RNG and roll for a number between one and ten.
→ Alternatively, just pick the choice you’re interested in most.
1. BAD DATE - You get a text, a phone call, or maybe you can just see the other person floundering on what clearly must be the worst date of their life. Time to step in and save the day.
2. PRISON - Maybe they've been wrongly convicted, or maybe you're an accomplice. Either way, it's jailbreak time. Maybe the guards will fall for the old 'wounded prisoner' technique.
3. TAKEN HOSTAGE - They're being held at gunpoint, either for money or for fun. Maybe you can talk down their captors — or maybe you are a captor, secretly working to help them.
4. UNWELL - Your body is damaged, your suffering taken its toll. You can't save yourself anymore. You're wounded, you're starving, maybe even dying. Someone, help!
5. YOURSELF - One bad choice after another, your self-destructive tendencies are going to get the best of you unless someone steps in to save the day.
6. BIG DAMN RESCUE - You're hovering over an active volcano, a pit of sharks, about to fall off a cliff. Whatever it is, you've only got precious seconds of life left.
7. LONELINESS - You've been secluded, locked away, and the emptiness is overwhelming. You need company, or you might just drown.
8. UNWANTED SOCIAL FUNCTION - A family reunion, your three o'clock board meeting, whatever it is, you desperately don't want to go. Hopefully your good buddy can come up with a distraction.
9. BAD ROMANCE - You're trapped in a relationship that's headed south. Maybe it's an arranged marriage, or maybe it's just someone who won't take no for an answer. You need a helping hand, maybe even a Prince(ss) Charming.
10. WILDCARD - Any kind of rescue will do! Spread your creative wings and go for it.

[ She squishes his face for a couple seconds longer, then lets her hands drop. There's the reluctant beginnings of a smile on her face. ]
You're okay? We were attracting kind of a crowd by the end.
[ Which had been partly her fault. At least it had worked. (Mostly.) ]
no subject
I-if it isn't any trouble, could we, ah, find somewhere more out of the public eye...to regroup?
no subject
[ Ritsuka reaches for his hand, pauses, then grabs at his sleeve instead, giving it a small tug. She'll lead him again if he's too shellshocked from his near-miss, but no more than he's willing to tolerate. ]
We're not actually in any rush. I would've lied about it if they asked, though.
no subject
[ Now let's see, somewhere quiet, out of the way, and preferably dark. Any public establishments like a store or restaurant are immediately out, and even a park is a little too open and vulnerable for him at the moment. A library could work under certain conditions, but there's no way to guarantee those and going through the trouble of finding one only for it to be filled with people would just be a waste of their time.
Quiet, out of the way, and dark. As he scans their surroundings, his eyes fall on the darkest spot close by: an alley. That fits the bill, sure, but would it be uncouth to just drag his Master into an alleyway...?
Unfortunately his legs haven't caught up with his train of thought yet, just hearing "safe dark spot" and already making a beeline. ]
no subject
[ It's fine, Ritsuka has followed much shadier characters into worse places. She does look around a bit warily as they head into the alley, but honestly, she's less tense than she could be. Even if they do end up getting jumped, Edgar would probably be enough.
Probably.
He's at least sturdier than Andersen, at least. She does pick up her pace enough to keep closer to him, just in case. ]
...You really like your dark places, don't you?
no subject
And maybe some of the rest of him. Maybe? Could be eyes yet to adjust, could be his cape against the bricks. ]
I am well-acquainted with the dark. [ Dramatic, but he's not wrong? ] It wouldn't be entirely correct to say it's a comfort, but it is...familiar?
no subject
Familiarity counts for a lot. It kind of fits your -- uh. Your look.
[ With the low bangs and the bags under his eyes and everything. ]
Feeling any better yet?
no subject
But he nods, suddenly looking thoughtful. ] It is helping, yes.
Though hiding in the darkness with someone else is new, I must admit.
no subject
If you don't like it, I can leave you alone. But if you don't mind, I'd like to stay.
[ Even if she's the sort of person who genuinely likes and prefers being around other people, she knows better than to try to steamroll others in that way.
But if he doesn't mind having her around... that'd be nice. ]
no subject
Adjusting the lapels of his cape, looking more at his shoes than at her. ] No, I. I don't mind at all.
[ Another feeling that's new. Ritsuka's opinion matters more than most, certainly more than any of the strangers gossiping about the scene back there, so it's like he's inviting himself to be crushed by her judgement. Though the logical part of his mind is reminding his anxiety that she's already made her opinion of him known, that's why he trusted her enough to drag her here in the first place. She's not going to rear up like a snake and tell him everything that's wrong with him--or is she? Idiot, of course not, she isn't that kind of person!
Not to mention she's staying of her own accord, isn't she? It's fine. She's fine. This is fine. ]
...Do you mind the dark much, Master?
no subject
[ As she says that, Ritsuka tips her head back, first looking upwards, and then letting her gaze slide sideways towards him. There's a small smile on her lips, lopsided and a little self-deprecating. It's embarrassing to admit her petty human fears like this -- thunderstorms. The dark. Gaps between stairs. They're so small compared to everything that gets thrown at Chaldea on a regular basis, and so insignificant compared to the things most of her Servants have suffered in their lives.
But it's not fair for her to hold things back when she's asking for honesty from her Servants. So even if she can't quite look at him directly, she doesn't hesitate in the confession. ]
But these days, I think I've got a new appreciation for it.
no subject
Curious, in this world where more is hidden in the dark than the maddened hearts of men, that your feelings have changed. May I ask why?
no subject
[ When she sees him smile, her own grows and strengthens, a little less embarrassed, a little more genuine. ]
But it's harder when you're not alone. No matter what's hiding there, I've got you guys. Even the one time I thought I'd be going in by myself... with all this support, I can't be that afraid.
no subject
She's probably seen the same look he has on his face with Andersen or Shakespeare, like a tiny firework went off in his brain and he's trying to catch and organize all the flying sparks.
Inspiration. ]
With such an outlook, it's no wonder all of us would rally to defend you so readily.
no subject
[ She has to laugh a little at that, still somewhat embarrassed. A hand creeps up to rub the back of her neck. That look on his face is familiar, but it's not any less strange for that. Ritsuka thinks of herself primarily as a very ordinary person; the idea that she could inspire anyone is an alien one to her. ]
I don't think it's that impressive, but... I'm grateful you're willing, all the same.
no subject
[ And with a blink, he realizes what he's said, ducking his head and busying himself with dusting nonexistant debris off his cloak. ]
A-ah, but listen to me carry on! This was meant to be a quiet refuge for regaining our bearings and here I am...!
no subject
[ Oh no. She can't help but smile wider at that, covering her mouth with a hand like that would be enough to hide the expression. Listen, it's cute when any of the more reserved Servants open up like this, and she's always proud when she gets a reaction like that. ]
I don't mind talking, though. It means a lot when you guys are willing to tell me stuff like that.
The more I know, the more I can help you guys, too.
no subject
[ He doesn't bring his head up, now worrying at the cloak's already tattered edges. ]
I've spent so much time in this darkness it became...difficult, to speak with most people. To connect with them. They seemed content to simply leave the madman be with his quill and ravings of ravens 'til they no longer had to deal with him in person.
That you trust me, Master, to walk the darkness with you, means more than I could hope to pen in any lifetime.
no subject
[ Ritsuka laughs again at that, though this time it comes out in a nervous little burst. She can feel her face starting to go hot. It's one thing to receive casual compliments in passing from Servants, but the writers. There's something about the way the writers do it that always trips her straight into embarrassed maiden mode.
It isn't even like she's actually a maiden in any sense, but that doesn't change how susceptible she is to lines like that. She waves her hands, though she's watching him more out of the corner of the eye than look him straight on. ]
You shouldn't sell yourself so short! You're pretty amazing yourself! I mean, come on, you didn't have to say yes to coming out today at all -- the fact you did is pretty impressive.
[ He did it more willingly than some of the other would-be shut-ins of Chaldea. Da Vinci hadn't even needed to outright strongarm him. ]
Have a little more confidence in yourself, okay? I believe in you.
no subject
[ The options on who else he could go with aren't exactly overflowing, but the sentiment is still there. ]
Your belief, that it's you relying on me, it has me wanting to do better. To keep both my pen and my blade sharpened to be of their best use to you. After everything it's the least I can...
[ He trails off with a grumble, mind and mouth not moving at matching speeds again, before frantically shaking his head as if that'll mix everything back up into some semblance of order...though all it does is mess up his hair even further.
He doesn't let that stop him from letting his mouth keep running. ]
S-so! Even if it is a selfish request, I would like you to believe in me for as long as I believe in you, Master!
no subject
[ Well, even if she's still flustered, she can't help but soften at that. She takes a step closer to him -- not entirely into his personal space, but at least closer than before -- and then pauses, folding her hands behind her back and rocking on her heels. It's the same way she might try to play up being an "innocent young girl" if she were alone, but in this particular instance, it's more gently playful. ]
As long as you're with me, I'll always believe in you. And even after we part ways.
[ Chaldea won't be forever, surely. There will come a point where Ritsuka will have to release all of her Servants back to the throne, and she knows it. But that day isn't yet, and even then... ]
As long as I'm alive, I'll always believe in you.
