Depends on exactly who the company is of course. I could think of a few people whose company I wouldn't welcome. But old friends? Those are always good. How are things treating you?

As good as things can be. I'll admit it's a little difficult trying to keep up with the others without any powers, but... y'know, I make what I can of it. [ Something she's sure David knows very well, since he's in a similar position. ] I heard you're with the Young Avengers now.

Now that's something I definitely understand. Which of course you already knew. But I try my best.

[Ah, the Young Avengers. Talk about a complicated situation. David sighs and even takes his glasses off to rub more easily at the bridge of his nose.]

That is definitely a statement you just made that has a resemblance to the truth. But come on, Dani, you ever know things to be that simple with me?

I wouldn't expect anything less from you... And things are never that simple for our kind, David. [ Depowered or not, apparently. There's a short pause from her and her bottom lip juts out a bit as she contemplates to herself. ] Seems almost impossible for any of us to not be part of some kind of superhero team, huh?

[ Understatement of the century. ]

I tried, Dani. I really tried. Got a job at a place that hires people with powers. I worked hero technical support. It was miserable work. Until I met one of Erik’s grandsons. And now here I am, probationary Young Avenger.

[Try as he might, a normal life really wasn’t going to work out for him.]

At this point I’m half considering culinary school. I think I could handle the stress of a kitchen.

It's frustrating, but if it's any consolation, you're doing good work and helping people out. That's gotta count for something, right?

[ Despite the seriousness of the conversation Dani can't help but laugh a little a David's last remark. She shakes her head. ]

I don't actually think that's a bad idea, David. The more hobbies you have the more it keeps you from feeling like you're going crazy. That's why I took up archery.

Counts for a lot. I can definitely agree with it. But it doesn’t make finding work easier.

[As for the cooking, he sighs.]

It’s hard, finding hobbies. Because sometimes it is hard to tell what I am interested in myself, and what is something I picked up from others. Like skiing. I’ve never been, so is my interest in it intellectual, legitimate, or is it because I know everything Jean-Paul knows about it? Though if you like archery, I could introduce you to a Hawkeye.

Well that's something the both of us can agree on.

I don't have an answer for that, but I still don't think it'd hurt to give it a try. You might've gained knowledge from others but your ability to enjoy it is still yours. And that depends on the Hawkeye. I'm already acquainted with Clint, but I'm assuming you're talking about the female one. What was her name again?

Hawkeye. [David offers a brief smile. Sorry, Dani, knowing Clint’s name isn’t enough to get him to offer Kate’s. The hero population outside of the X-Men tends to be more secretive with that.]

And she’s a friend. More or less. And team lead. Far more competent with wrangling cats than I ever was.

[ Fair enough. She knows how important secret identities are and of the like, so she leaves it at that. ]

Well I'll have to see about meeting her some time then, there aren't a lot of people who use a bow nowadays. It sounds like you've got yourself quite the team there.

They’re great, Dani. Sometimes that surprises me. I mean, the twins alone are hard for me to predict. Well, not Wiccan. He’s a lot like his mother, and driven by his love. Speed... geez, guy had the potential to go full Magneto on the world once. And not the cuddly ‘let me protect Utopia by about burning myself out’ Erik. I mean Brotherhood, humans deserve to be wiped out, Erik. Except he doesn’t, by sheer force of will. He chooses to believe in people because people believed in him. And the list goes on.

They’re... good. In so many ways they remind me of people I’ve lost. Of the old team. Hawkeye bashing our heads together reminds me of Sofia trying to get us to all get along. Hulkling’s compassion and drive reminds me of Laurie. Noh-Vare’s passion for music makes me think about how well he would have gotten on with Jay...

[It hurts to think of it all in that context. He writes letters to Sofia, and she actually responds. Harder to stay in touch with Josh. Harder to even find him. And he hasn’t even actively tried with Nori. Just lets information filter to him through other former classmates.]

[ Dani just sits and listens as David talks her ear off. Not that she minds one bit. Hearing him about talk about them so fondly is nice and she's glad he's found such comfort in his current team. Though there is sort of a bittersweet remembrance at the mention of some of the old squad members. Laurie and Jay weren't with them anymore... and Josh... well, she hasn't really been able to track him down for a while now, like David, no matter how hard she's tried to. And that makes her feel guilty.

Sofia and Nori are really the only ones she talks to on occasion, and even then, it's not as much as she'd like. Her expression falters just a bit and she tries to cover it up by taking a long sip from her coffee.

Okay. Now she offers a small smile again. ]

Well if anything it's really fantastic to hear that you get along so well with them. They're lucky to have you and you're lucky to have them. Remember that. [ She hums to herself, considering something else. ] Have you been keeping in touch with Win-- Sofia?

Not as often as I would like. She is quite difficult to reach sometimes. It was easier when she was only a waitress. Harder than normal. I don’t know if she’s much in the mood to talk to me right now. But we have go betweens for when we aren’t in contact.

[Most of which involve people that are more predictable.]
