With Banner/the Hulk/whatever his name is resting up and Tony - oh god Tony - is gone, Bucky looks for her. And she's not there.

Finally, he asks the only person who could know, who could tell him anything.

It takes all his strength not to put his metal fist through Clint. But he doesn't. The father of three doesn't deserve that. He deserves to go home to his family. And if the tears in his eyes when he tells Bucky what happened are any indication, Clint feels the loss as keenly as Bucky does.

But it's after Steve disappears, after Sam gets the shield, and Bucky is staring at the memorial they built, for her, for Vision, that it hits him: His other half is not coming back. He's always known that she is who she is, of course. How else could he have shot her through the stomach instead of through the heart?

Still, he can't continue on. So, he doesn't go to Wakanda with T'Challa. Instead, he sits, staring at the marker, the plain simple stone that marks the end of her life and wishes for the end of his own.

Mercy honestly hadn't expected to find her soulmate in this life. It was a huge thing here, people had 'meet your soulmate' parties where they hoped to find someone who would say just the right thing - that odd set of first words that supposedly your soulmate would say to them. And then if your first reply matched theirs, well, that was supposed to be it.

She never went to those parties, didn't think she really believed in soulmates anyway. One of her best friends had the words, "Hi, nice to meet you," for her tattoo. How innocuous was that.

Mercy never told anyone or showed anyone what her words said and even though some people claimed that her words matched theirs, they never had.

So tonight, while her friend tried to match tattoos, Mercy sat out on the rocks overlooking the river and wondered if there truly was such a thing as a soulmate.

She can cover it, with clothes or a little makeup if she wants to go sleeveless, but it will never go away. It's there, staring at her.

Peggy sighs, staring at the stack of papers on her desk. Running a covert espionage, special law enforcement, and counter-terrorism agency was not something that she ever thought she'd find on her bucket list. It was a busy life. It was a good life, but sometimes it was a lonely life.
