You forgot your compass, lost the map, took the instructions of that crazy old guy living in a log, or were just plain stupid and falling for every horror movie cliché. Someone mentioned that it wasn't raining, someone really insulted a psychopath squirrel, and whatever plans you had were utterly ruined. Or maybe, despite everything, it went along perfectly. Whatever happened, you’re lost in the woods and there doesn’t seem to be a quick way out. Will you get back onto the path easily, or will you stumble upon some trouble? Or not? Anything is possible!

WARNING: Some of the prompts below include horror elements, so be sure to plan things ahead!

PICKING FLOWERS ✿ Nothing simpler than going out and collecting some flowers. It is to brighten up a room? Cheer up a sick friend? Woo a loved one? Wait a moment… where did the path back home go?

HIKING TRIP ✿ Gotta love getting some exercise and fresh air, seeing new sights, and getting to the top of a summit. Hold on. You were supposed to turn left. Right?

PICNIC ✿ You had the perfect picnic spot in mind, and it was going to be a lovely afternoon, but you lost the map or took a wrong turn. Might as well find a decent spot somewhere before you get too hungry.

EXPLORING ✿ Everyone loves to explore the woods! Will you see deer or squirrels? Maybe find a creek you didn’t know about? Or lose sight of your house?

GAME ✿ You were playing paintball or hide and seek, but somehow, you lost your way and cannot find your way back to your friends. Hopefully they’re looking for you.

BATTLE ✿ Your worst enemy (or the latest criminal of the day) thinks that they can lose you in the woods, but they are totally wrong. But the woods are deeper and darker than you thought, and there are more dangers in it too.

HUNTING ✿ The woods are the perfect place to find a hiding spot for a criminal or someone else who might be running from you. But what is a haven could also be your undoing if you don’t know how to get out of there alive.

STRANGE SIGHTING ✿ Come on! You’re not going to let whatever that was get away, are you? Time to find that mysterious crash or that ghost, but you have only yourself to blame if you get into trouble and can’t get out of it.

LOOKING FOR CLUES ✿ Some sort of mystery is going on, from a ghost story to a jewel heist, and clues have led you to the woods. Will you find the hide out? A crime scene? More clues to reveal who or what is going on? Or just get more lost?

LEGEND ✿ There is a legend about these woods, and it’s always been a dare to go into them and see if you can find the truth behind it: a ghost, a creature, a god. But the thing is, no one ever got lost in the woods on the dare, and no one has ever found it before.

BEING HUNTED ✿ You’re being hunted by a psychopath or something just as equally as horrifying. You have no other option but to go into the woods, but in your fear, you lost your way and you just might be heading back where you don’t want to go.

GHOSTS ✿ From ticking someone off to doing a taboo ritual, ghosts are out to get you. Can you lose them in the haunted forest or will you just meet your doom?

MONSTER CHASING ✿ A werewolf, the creature from the black lagoon, or a vampire, you are hunting down something not human with a vengeance. Wait. They might be hunting you, since you have no clue where you are in this dratted forest.

EVIL CABIN ✿ It was supposed to be a nice vacation, just a simple get away… but how were you supposed to know that a serial killer was vacationing there too? Or that it was cursed? Or something else that wants to kill you?

ANCIENT GROUNDS ✿ The tour guide told you not to step beyond those rocks for a reason! These were sacred grounds and now you have to face the wrath of ancient guardians. Can you lose them in the woods or figure out how to appease them?

EVERY ACCIDENT EVER ✿ You lost the map. The tents won’t go up. Someone broke their leg collecting firewood. Those leaves were poison ivy. You know the drill.

LOST THE MAP ✿ Was it that evil raccoon? Or perhaps you forgot it at the camp three miles back? Whatever the reason, you’ve decided that you’re just going to follow the trail wherever it goes, and it turned out to be your worst decision ever.

COMPASS IS WRONG ✿ The magnetic fields of the world is just messing with you now, sending you in a direction you didn’t want to go. But it might be a fun, if crazy, adventure. But is that the same bear you messed with earlier this morning?

WRONG DIRECTIONS ✿ We told you not to listen to that crazy old mountain man! Because instead of heading home, you’re up the wrong mountain.

ON PURPOSE ✿ Yes, you got lost on purpose. Not really, though. You just really wanted to pull a prank on your friends, or maybe get back at them.

SURPRISE ✿ Did you bake them a ten foot high cake? Is it a surprise party? Or are you just being an awesome boyfriend or girlfriend? You have something planned in the forest and it’s going to be a wonderful day for everyone involved.

SECULUDED SPOT ✿ Everyone loves some place quiet and alone to be with their loved one. Hidden in the trees, a creek bubbling in the background, and stars above, there is nothing like going into the middle of nature to do nature things.

PROPOSAL ✿ On a hike, at the top of a difficult mountain to climb, in a field of flowers in the middle of the forest, a bunch trees can be just the spot to pop the question.

MAGICAL WONDER ✿ You have got to show someone this! A cave filled with crystals, a baby deer with its mother, a beautiful lake… They might not like the woods, but you’re dragging them with you to see this wonderful sight you can’t see in the city.

DATE ✿ It’s certainly different from movies and popcorn! Do you have a picnic set up? Is there fishing involved? Perhaps bird watching. Be creative!

RAIN ✿ How many times do you have to see it in movies before you learn not to say, “At least it’s not raining?”

INJURY ✿ A sprained ankle, a concussion, maybe even a splinter. Any sort of injury is going to make an experience in the woods more miserable.

FOREST RANGER ✿ Is he friendly and goofy? Or just out to give you every ticket that you can be given in a forest? Either way, he won’t leave you alone.

WEIRD NOISE ✿ Yes, we know you’re hearing things. Wait, I think I heard it too. Is there something there, or are we just going insane?

[ Riza's ankle hurt. It had been hurting since the car she had been driving and been forced off the road and tumbled down an incline into the wilderness beyond the road. She hadn't noticed at first--was too focused on making sure Kaname was taken care of, too high on adrenaline to stop and think about her own injuries. Now though, hours later as the pair of them tried to make their way through the thick maze of trees and undergrowth.

Being assigned to protect this girl hadn't eactly been an easy assignment, but neither had Riza quite expected things to get this out of hand. She paused, tested her weight gingerly as she leaned against a tree, then glanced back towards Kaname. She was a nice young woman. Had a good attitude, most of the time. Of course, Riza tried not let personal feelings enter into it too much, but had found herself becoming fond of the younger woman, no matter what her professional instincts told her.

Not time to think about that, Hawkeye. ]

We should find some place to make camp. [ God, did she really sound that strained? ]

Some place hard to spot, preferably. They're probably still trying to track us. [ And after Riza had accounted for at least two of their pursuers, she doubted they were in any mood to show her much in the way of mercy. She adjusted the sling of the submachine-gun around her neck and tried to ignore how heavy the 'bug out bag' of emergency supplies she had grabbed from the wreck of the car was beginning to feel. ]

[It both is and isn't a rhetorical question. They have passed the tree before and they will pass the tree before. Ronan is acutely aware of that, but he needs to know if it feels like he's having deja vu because they already did it today or if it's just that weird feeling that comes from a human mind trying to keep chronological time when everything is happening in a chain that's tangled and doesn't always make sense.

Sometimes it's both, but Ronan thinks that's probably not the case here. He's been following Adam, because Adam should know where they're going, but at the same time: it's Cabeswater. Sometimes things are just not the way they're supposed to be.]

[It never quite sunk in that not all monsters are alike. Some weren't made of kindness, or compassion as Papyrus' kind flattered themselves to be. Some were stamped pretty firmly in the "chaotic evil" section of the manual.

That's not even getting into where on the human-monster spectrum a "werewolf", whatever that is, falls. Well, the night watch wanted a monster, and they were going to get an expert: Papyrus. At first even they regarded Papyrus with suspicion, suspecting him to be some being of horrific black magic. Still, he'd proven harmless, if overbearingly confident. What harm could sending him do? If he solves their problem, preferably by bringing back its lupine hide, well and good. If he dies? Eh, he looks like the kind that natural selection had treated too tenderly thus far.

That's why he's in the woods, collecting wood and leaves and making an awful lot of noise with his monologues and trap construction. Papyrus, who'd learned from personal experience, knew what dogs and their kind liked: bones. Loathe as he is to part with one, he'd constructed an elaborate and sure-to-fail trap with one of his own magical ones for a prize.]

There is, strictly speaking, no map to Cabeswater. It exists as it wants to - or is it as Ronan wants it to? Sometimes it's hard to tell what is and isn't the product of his own dreaming, which Ronan supposes actually goes for everything and not just Cabeswater. The blurriness of what is and isn't dream becomes harder to separate here, though, and they are lost.

Well, Ronan thinks they're lost but he's pretty sure that Gansey doesn't necessarily think of things in terms of lost and found. It's probably more like the long way and the short way and this is the long way, which is more exciting because it's an adventure and excelsium or whatever it is Gansey's always saying.]

We've been walking forever. Where are we even going?

[The woods outside of Twilight Town were best avoided at night, according to many of the denizens of the town. They were quite dark in the evening, with the faint light of the moon and stars blocked out by the overhanging foliage, making it easy to stumble and injure oneself. Not to mention, an array of wild animals prowled in the woods at night, and a wayward human would no doubt make an easy meal for any predator.]

[Unbeknownst to most of the denizens of Twilight Town, it was also a favoured hunting grounds of the town's local supernatural denizens. Away from prying eyes, those beings described as unnatural prowled through the old forest, reveling in the small patch of wilderness available to them or skulking through the sewers to get into the town proper. So long as they didn't expose themselves, no one would be aware of the horrors lurking in the thick expanse of forest just outside the town walls.]

[Unfortunately, there was always the occasion wherein one beast refused to cooperate.]

[It was nearly nightfall, the sky darkening as the sun sank lower and lower beneath the horizon. Roxas, on Saix's orders, was sent here to investigate the rumours of a large beast roaming the forest. Normally the pack kept to itself and didn't interfere with the affairs of other beasts, but this particular monster was causing trouble with the townsfolk. Trouble that could erroneously be linked to the pack, which Xemnas did not want. So Roxas had been sent out into the woods to track down this beast and deal with it, by any means possible.]

[The blonde boy let out a sigh, turning and looking back at the top of the tower looming over the walls. He'd much rather be up there, enjoying the evening with Naminé... but, it couldn't be helped. Besides, it was best they didn't mingle while he was on official pack business.]
