[Jim's attention was fixed on Dejah instead of the stunning view beyond the glass of the observation deck. He'd brought the Princess of Mars aboard the Enterprise as a gift, a thank you for her help in negotiations with the Federation. When she looked back at him, he smiled.]

You're welcome. Mars -- er, Barsoom -- is a planet that's always fascinated the people of Earth.

It never occurred to us that there was life on Jasoom - Earth, ourselves. Amazing, when one realizes one isn't alone in the universe.

[She turns her gaze back to the reddish hued planet below.]

Do you really think the Federation will aid us in the battle against the Therns?

Jasoom. I like that. [He reaches out to rest a companionable hand on one of her shoulders.] It is amazing. More so when you think about the fact that we haven't even seen a third of our own galaxy.

[At her question, he nods, knowing she can see his reflection in the glass.] Yeah, I do.

Good.

[He can see her smile reflected in the window. There's something faintly bloodthirsty about it, but not enough to trigger alarm bells. There are Federation races who are worse.]

And will you and the Enterprise stay and help us, will you move on?

[The bloodthirsty edge to her smile doesn't alarm Jim. He understands. He has a similar animosity toward Klingons and Romulans. Letting his hand drop, fingers briefly grazing her arm, he tilts his head thoughtfully.]

That depends on Starfleet's orders. I'd love to stay and help but they might want their flagship elsewhere.

[The corner of her mouth quirks into a grin, she turns toward him as his fingers slide along her arm.]

It would be vastly inappropriate for me to have it be suggested that the Enterprise remain as a gesture of goodwill. As much as it might appeal, I would regret keeping you from your duty, and if disaster were to occur because you were held here, I would regret it even more deeply.
