[ It had been a battle hard fought with no clear winner. But he'd have it no other way -- victory on either side would have been devastating. Leading to the early death of his best friend or himself, or the unjust end of a man whose only goal was to undo the destruction of everything that made him human.

But let's back up a bit.

The year is 20-who fucking cares and the setting is the dingy slum in the shadow of Platinum Jail, otherwise known as the Old Residential District on the insignificant island of Midorijima, Japan. Allmates are a thing and so is the nocturnal hero, Sly Blue, who cleans up the city streets not of gangs, but with them to undermine the very organizations that seek to subvert mankind under their will. Seriously, fuck those guys and fuck Toue too.

Obviously, Sly Blue's identity was known to the man pursuing Koujaku for crimes he supposedly committed in some future where he went berserk and made life for Cable supremely shitty. A future too distant for Aoba to believe, not when it resembles nothing from the Koujaku he knows today -- harmlessly womanizing away without a care in the world because this time, this time Aoba had accepted himself and between the two of his halves, he was able to fight back and more importantly, protect his best friend.

At some point, years ago, he learned to weaponize his ability... train his voice and Scrap to take a more direct approach. Instead of simply commanding or overwriting minds, he can send distorted waves of sound through the built-in amplifiers in his suit that also serves to shield his face and neck from damage. Yeah, it's kind of a stupid hero power, but it's less problematic than mind control.

He's trying to be a good guy, here. Anyway, he went toe to toe with a man above his years and experience, really running Sly Blue through his paces before he realized his good wasn't nearly good enough. It was only by practically begging for a chance to prove Koujaku could be diverted from his fate that he managed to get through to Cable. Somehow, the stars aligned and Cable actually gave him a chance.

Now he's wondering if he's misjudged. He's here when he said he was satisfied with the result and intended to head back to his timeline. So, naturally... he's wondering why.

Despite the cover over his mouth, his voice is clear thanks to the circular speakers surrounding his neck. He regards him for a moment above the mask, then perches a booted foot on an exposed pipe as he reclines with false relaxation. Every fiber of his being is on edge and with good fucking reason. The man he's speaking with isn't an 'old man', he's a machine. ]

Don't tell me this is some alternate timeline version of you, I really don't need some freaky AU version of Groundhog Day.
