I am desperately bad about letting things drop but I hope you like to play anyway :x
No worries! I'll be around for whatever whenever. (And yes, I do like to play)
All he could say was that without anything pressing to devote his attention to, he felt a little lost and listing, like a ship adrift. There were probably plenty of places an extra pair of hands would come in handy, but -
But instead of entering the hangars, or heading towards comms, Cassian finds himself striding down hallways as purposefully as he can manage, the expression on his face hopefully more than enough to keep anyone from trying to waylay him from his intended path.
He probably should have sent a message first, but it was too late once he found himself standing in front of Jyn's quarters - almost knocking but not quite.
Get a grip, he told himself, and finally knocked, three short raps in succession before standing back and waiting. Maybe now that there was time and opportunity to do so, they could discuss some of the things they had only touched on before.
Maybe not.
At least they'd be together.

The knock on her door sends a jolt across her body, knowing it was no emergency, nothing that would send the base into paroxysms of activity. She opened the door with a mechanical woosh, and she felt her stomach follow it, to come face to face with Cassian. "Hi," she greeted him softly, with a slight smile.

Maybe it was selfish of him, but he was terrified of the possibility that one day, she'd just decide to leave, to find a life as far away from the center of things as possible, and she - she would have every right to.
She hadn't come into this willingly, like so many others had.
But those thoughts cease taking precedence in the forefront of his mind as the door enters and Jyn finally comes into sight, greeting him with that slight upturn of her lips, as welcoming as it had ever been.
For a moment, Cassian thought he couldn't breathe. But finally, his lips twisted up to match hers, and he nodded his greeting as well. "May I come in?"
no subject
"Yes," she agreed, and stepped back, so he could enter. It wasn't a particularly grand space, but it was hers. "I didn't get any notifications for orders or anything -- is something happening, or--"
no subject
He nodded and took one step into Jyn's quarters, and then another, and then turned and quickly shook his head in response to her questions. "No - no, nothing's wrong, Jyn, I just wanted to come and see you."
Here, he had the good graces to look a little chagrined. "I realize I should have asked first."
no subject
He entered and they stood awkwardly for a moment, before he started again. "No, it's okay --" she tried to interrupt. "I mean -- you're always welcome." For what that was worth. Thinking it might be better if they sat, she went ahead and sank down on the edge of the bed.

So, while Cassian didn't really know what to do with all of his nervous energy, he was here, and he was present, and he was touched when Jyn said that he was always welcome. It hadn't felt that way, when they first met, but now that they'd gotten past that initial distrust, now that they'd been through so much with each other, it felt good to know that she was there to have his back. And he hoped she knew the same of him.
She sat. He followed, clasping his hands in his lap once he was settled. Why was it so difficult to figure out what to say next, what to do? His brows knitted together in concentration, and when he opened his mouth, it was a soft - "How are you?" that emerged.
Why he hadn't thought to ask sooner, he'd never know.

It was different while on a mission, he could give orders with authority, and put away every other emotion in it's own little box in order to get the job done.
But now, there was no objective. It was just the two of them, and it was far more awkward than he was anticipating. What was he expecting? For her to break down and tell him everything that was bothering her? Idiot.
"Right", he responded, nodding his understanding. "That's good."
no subject
"Are you well?" It was, of course, relative for them.

He was trying. It was a lot awkward and a little uncomfortable, but he was here and he was trying.
After a pause, his lips twisted into a wry little smile, and he chanced a sidelong glance at her, just to see her expression, to see if he could try to read it. "I'm still here", he slowly replied, shrugging slightly. "So I suppose that must count for something."
It was as close to saying 'no' as he was comfortable offering. After a beat, then another -
"You?"
Idiot.

"I'm glad you are - ", he started, his voice a little more certain. "Still here. With me."

She turned to face him, tucking her legs in crossways. "I've done my best to keep it that way," she said. One of her hands comes out in front of her, palm turned up -- perfectly available for touching, or holding, if he had a mind to do it.

She turned and rearranged herself, and when their knees touched, he thought that might be enough. But then she turned her hand over, and it seemed like a silent invitation to take it. Still, Cassian hesitated before reaching out, and even paused before he touched fingertips to hers. But when she didn't yank her hand away, he felt comfortable enough to press his rough palm to hers and clasp it gently. "Yeah. Me too."

He couldn't remember the last time he had been this close to someone - or shared the contact or the comfort of it - that had been because he'd wanted to rather than had to in service of the cause.
"I wanted you to know that I'm ... I'm here for you ... if you need me to be."
You're not alone.
no subject
"I know." She smiles. "And I'm... you know, the same." It had sounded way better when he said it. "I didn't think I'd ever find someone like you."
no subject
His lips pulled up into a surprised smile and he ducked his head, immediately wanting to hide, even though he knew he should have shared it with Jyn without fear. He didn't think he was particularly worthy of the sentiment, but it certainly made his heart beat a little further back into life.
"Didn't think we'd get to this point, but ... I'm glad we're here."

Cassian breathed out a noise that could have been called a laugh, finally raising his eyes to meet Jyn's once more. "Your guess is as good as mine."
But hopefully, they'd have time in which to figure it out.
