Natural Enemies Shipping Meme


Most of us are fortunate enough to not be plagued by "natural enemies" - or even worst, a group that serves as an opposing force. But that doesn't mean that there isn't swaths of society that just do not play well together. Hunters and demons. Predators and prey. Outlaws and lawmen. Vampires and slayers. Montagues and Capulets. The undead and the living. The list goes on. You know, the usual and the unusual alike. It seems like wars will always rage between them. Maybe it's better for these types to just avoid each other, lest there be bloodshed.

What if, though, you - yes, you - were a member of one group and you developed feelings for someone that should be a mortal enemy. Of course, the feelings weren't the expected ones of wanting to gouge eyeballs out; instead, it was love, and a returned one at that. That would be quite the predicament, wouldn't it? But what would it be like? What drew you to them? Would your love be a pure, romantic one, or more of a love/hate? And would you allow that to sway you or repress all those emotions until you burst?

Most importantly, would a happy ending be possible?

HOW TO PLAY

• Comment with your character and preferences, plus any information because this meme needs at least a little! People are going to want to know who their character should "hate."
• Tag others.
• RNG or choose what kind of relationship you're playing from ROUTE and the tone of the eventual ending, which will theoretically color the thread.
• Play! Play out anything that strikes your fancy. Draw inspiration from the meme or come up with your own ideas.

ROUTE

• ROMANTIC LOVE: Despite who they are, you care for them. Whether this means you'll ignore outside influence, fight your own demons to be with them, run away with them, or change the system depends on you.
• LOVE/HATE: You despise them and all the stand for, but you can't keep away.

END

• HAPPY: No matter how bad life is, it will take a turn for the better.
• TRAGEDY: It may be good now, but eventually, everything is going to fall apart right in front of you.

It was said, nowadays, that certain places were taboo to trespass on. Usually for very good reasons - hungry wildlife, natural disasters, the potential for one wrongly placed foot to spell disaster for travellers, so on and so forth. Other reasons made a little less sense. Reasons like never passing by a certain tree at night or always, always leaving out a saucer of milk at night to ward off explainable things come morning, like finding the lines of the family plow tied into many fiddly knots. Old precautions for old reasons, still remembered in stories and myth passed from generation to generation.

The wild woods of Panne's home is taboo to infringe on simply because she didn't allow trespassers to go much further than the time it took to lose sight of the treeline. Oh, people could try, taking twists and turns as they may but moving in roughly a straight line, but the path would always inexplicably lead back to where they entered from. Any further attempts would always end in the same result, so what was the point in persisting?

Except for the one time a brave soul came armed with fire and iron, eager to dredge the deep woods for the wild wonders hidden within. He never returned - the only trace if his passing an extinguished torch and a notched hunter's knife left driven deep into the bark of a tree closest to the path. A warning. One that so far has been respected by the nearest village, and so she doesn't bother them as long as they leave her alone.

Suffice it to say she is among the most hostile, the least forgiving of the Fair Folk around these parts, and she likes it that way. Her pride is still stung by Cu Chulainn's arrogance in conquest. Púca memories are long, and their grudges even longer. It's likely she'll retain that grudge long after humanity dies out and nature reclaims what was once hers.

At least the fearsome reputation she's spent so long painstakingly building with every intrusion means she's much more free to frolic in the mountainous fields and glades at her leisure. It's precisely what she's doing today; the sun is high, the grass soft and green, the flowers in full bloom... all in all the ideal sunning spot. What finer way is there to while away the hours than to feel the warmth on one's face and revel in being the joy of being alive?

Panne's comfortably nestled in a patch of heather, almost invisible among the gently waving flowers as a seemingly regular mountain hare, snoozing in the afternoon sun. Every now and then one of those long ears twitches though, keeping some fragment of attention on her surroundings just in case. Old habits die hard.

John is exhausted, and he's pretty sure he's bleeding in at least two places. The bruises are too many to count, but they don't matter as much. What really matters is that he's stuck on this wraith ship, and while it's nice he supposes that Todd hasn't killed him and that he isn't stranded and dying he'd really... well, he'd rather a ship that was a little more homey.

He can feel Todd's judgemental gaze scanning him, and it makes something in John want to straighten up. He pointedly slouches an inch lower in his chair instead, resists the urge to touch the cut on his face and see if it was still bleeding. So what if he looks a mess? Who cares what Todd things, John sure doesn't.

"You should really consider getting a decorator in," he drawls, because that's a topic that isn't his injuries or asking why Todd is helping him again or what favour he might owe him. He'll work it out, he always works it out -- or Rodney will and he'll come get him before anything goes wrong. It'll be fine. Probably.

There's the usual sort of enemies for a demon/unholy creature, but given Ash's tendency to associate with virtually anyone regardless of alignment/species/etc. he could potentially be on most anyone's bad side, or they could be on his. He is also entirely the sort to get far too cozy with things/people that could potentially harm him. ]
