( though it isn't often, sometimes there are days off. not quite in the sense that a normal person would consider "off" because there's never a vacation from being king and shield and all the trappings that come along with it, but there are days when there's no meetings, no visiting diplomats, no nothing beyond tasks that can be put off until later in the day so the morning and even early afternoon are free. they're few and far between, yet today is one of them.

and gladio's utterly thrilled by it.

the previous day had been busy -- as had the past several weeks -- and this one reprieve before a convoy from altissia enters the crown city tomorrow is well needed. after a last minute security crisis that kept gladio up well into the early, early morning, he'd managed to just barely make it to the bed before he fell asleep. which, admittedly, he doesn't enjoy just going to sleep without fooling around with noct, but promises himself that he'll make good on it tomorrow.

John didn't travel that much but he'd been invited to California to take part in a production of a surfing video and he didn't wish to miss that opportunity. When the filming was done for the first day, he stayed on the beach and noticed a dark-haired woman surfer who was short of an arm.
