Interspecies Love

Interspecies Love Meme

Vampires and humans. Angels and demons. Ghosts and the living. The idea of "opposites attracting" is hardly a new one, but with the rise in popularity of supernatural creatures, aliens, and other sentient beings beyond our human understanding, the forbidden romance trope has been injected a shot of fresh blood- sometimes quite literally.

This meme does just that, taking the whole "not meant for each other" thing to it's most logical extreme. Of course, it's not always angst and depression. These days, mermaids and bird-people can have their relationships in peace to some degree.

Rules

Comment with your character, putting any preferences you have (ie, "humanoid characters only," F/M, etc). Also, be sure to note your character's "species" for others to reference (Name | Character | OTA | Human, ghost, mutant, alien, vampire, god, zombie-catgirl hybrid, etc).
Reply to others. If your characters aren't different species, feel free to AU or anything else like that.
Use the rng to determine your prompt.
Also I didn't think I needed to say this, but be excellent to each other. Dick comments and anon bullying are not on.

Meeting: Did you know there were, I don't know, werewolves before this? Or maybe you thought all aliens were evil. Will this...thing change your perception?

[ooc: All character info can be found here. But in short: he's over 900 years old, which for fae equates to being in his 20s. Visually, he's athletic, 3" tall, (thus effectively weightless to average-sized humans), pointed ears. Does not have wings - flight is achieved by levitation. Baritone, hints of an Irish accent. Well trained with multiple weapons and hand-to-hand combat (however impractical it may be for a fae, he knows it just the same). Other than levitation, his only real magical capability is shapeshifting into a fox. Given their shared royal status, this could possibly be an arrangement by their parents. Or just happenstance. I'm good with any of the prompts though. ]

Really, Thor could freely break this arrangement. That arrangement was father's idea, some old plans from when Thor was very, very young.

He didn't even know about those old plans! Loki knew. He's overheard. There was much that Loki had overheard in their lifetime, it seemed.

There really was no reason to get engaged to some person he's never met, was there?

Or. There could be. If that Kingdom could help the surviving Asgardians. That was reason enough to meet that prince, at least. Thor wondered whether that prince knew about theoretical arrangement, at least. However, Thor's never been to Altea. He wasn't even sure where it was, exactly.

Fortunately (or not), it turns out Loki has been there several times before.

And so, some time had passed, and...

Thor was now in the middle of announcing himself. He had no idea what sort of welcome he could expect. Well. At least his Father had a treaty with this Kingdom, that's good.

"I apologise for not sending a raven earlier," Thor says at the end of announcing himself.

What? He doesn't want to be rude about his sudden arrival, but, what can he do?

With the exception of Loki (who was always in disguise), visits from Asgardians were extremely rare. The entire kingdom went on full alert. However, upon realizing who their unexpected visitor was, everyone calmed down - a little. Outsiders were not welcome in Alatea, but, how does one refuse an audience with the son of Odin?

The royal court assembled swiftly. King, Queen, dukes, duchesses, earls, and so on. Everyone that is except the royal prince himself, who arrived late and was a bit annoyed by the whole thing - formalities were tedious to say the least. Yet, upon seeing the unexpected guest of honor, the young prince's eyes widened.

Ivar, Rykan's father, spoke up. "Welcome, son of Odin, to Alatea. Your visit is welcome, though unexpected, I apologize on behalf of my people for our lack of hospitality. What brings you to our land so impetuously?"

Rykan meanwhile looked Thor over - which was easy to do, as his huge frame took up much of the grand hall they all stood in. "Who is he again?" he whispered inquisitively to one of the nearby knights. "That is Thor, son of Odin of Asgard. Your betrothed." the knight answered. "Betrothed?" he had been told of the arrangement centuries ago, but - that was just it - it had been centuries.

"Ah, yes," Thor utters, slightly awkardly, "the Allfather Odin hasn't had the time to inform me, but, indeed, there had been arrangements. However. This isn't the sole reason of my visit."

Ah, this could be slightly difficult. Why did insist Loki on waiting outside, again? Brother should come help! If he's been here before, then why not... he didn't understand his dear brother sometimes, verily.

"My Kingdom has suffered great losses. The whole Realm was destroyed, in fact, in Ragnarok - though not all of Asgard's people, because my friends, and myself, and prince Loki, have managed to save many subjects. I came here to ask if it could be possible, owing to our Kingdoms' good relations... if it could be possible for my subjects to seek sanctuary here. Some shelter. For a brief time, I assure you, Your Majesty. You shall have my gratitude - and my aid, no matter what, should you ever need any."

Yes, Thor's subject, because Thor was a King now. Which was. Very, very new to him, still.

There was a murmur among everyone gathered over the news Thor brought. The King silenced them by lowering his staff to the floor and standing up. As the King offered his and the kingdom's condolences, he agreed to offer the Asgardians Alatea's aid as well. Rykan more or less blocked out what was being said, looking the other man over still. He was very attractive, and the fact that he was an outsider did endear him to the princes's adventurous spirit all the more.

His attention snapped back to his father though, "I must ask, will the new King of Asgard respect the treaty made, uniting our kingdoms?" King Ivar looked to Rykan then, who knew what that meant, and he stepped forward slightly and took a bow. "I am Prince Rykan, your majesty."

After saying his sincere thanks, Thor nods solemnly.

"I shall respect the treaty."

For the good of Asgard. Of the people.

He looks at the Fae Prince. "Well met, Prince Rykan."

"However, I will understand if you have made another arrangement, and I wouldn't insist on anything, naturally. My apologies, again, for the suddenness of my arrival. Let it not disturb any plans you may have, if you have any."

The king accepted the apology for the sudden arrival of Thor and the other Asgardians, but if there was any offense he didn't show it and called for the whole kingdom to welcome them, and for the sorcerers to weave their magic and provide a bountiful feast for their guests of honor. The king and queen both insisted that Rykan show Thor around, give them time to get to know each other - a wedding ceremony would be prepared as soon as possible to make the union official.

Rykan did as he was instructed, leading Thor from the castle and out among the people and then out into the vast countryside. "I am sorry that with the exception of the Grand Hall of the castle, our buildings aren't sufficiently spaced for you, or your people. But, you are welcome to stay here, and make of it what you will." Rykan chose to levitate himself near Thor, to try and make communication easier for the Asgardian.

Thor shook his head.

"You and your parents have shown us utmost generosity, I couldn't ask for more."

Really, he hasn't been certain what to expect.

"I'm most grateful."

The countryside was beautiful. Quite the sight. Asgardian king grinned in appreciation, looking around.

"Thank you, your majesty. I'm glad the scenery meets your approval. When we are united, it will be yours as well." Rykan knew, though he hadn't ever seen it himself, that as beautiful as his homeland was that it paled in comparison to Asgard.

"My condolences, by the way, for your loss. Though I have often wanted to leave my homeland and escape from my father's directions, I can't imagine how I would feel if either were no longer here." They were both royalty, and Thor was a King while he was still a mere prince, in addition he was an honored guest; proper manners were of the utmost importance. Asgard as a location may be gone, but the people were still very much alive, and were a force to be reckoned with; it would be wise to keep them pleased with the pleasantries of state.

That said, "If, we are to be united, I would like to learn more about you. From you yourself, instead of the legends I've heard told by others."

Asgard was something Thor knew his whole life, this place was new. So he was quite sincere. He hasn't seen many places like this one.

None exactly like this, in fact. There was something special here.

He nods solemnly at Rykan's offered sympathies. What can he even say, really? The loss is still fresh in his mind.

As for uniting, hm, good to see that the Prince shares the same view as to how such matters should be, apropos knowing each other! That's very good.

"Indeed," Thor says, giving prince Rykan a small smile, "it'd be best if we learned more of each other. From each other, not from other people. They always get a few things wrong, don't they? Unless they're close. I suppose Loki might tell you a billion things about me if you ask him later, some of them even true, some of them things that even I have no idea about! Altough, well, they wouldn't be flattering at all."

He grins. Yes, Thor's half-joking. After all, prince Rykan doesn't seem to be some extremely stuffy person. (And if he was, well, there'd be no possibility of marriage, likely!)

And then, Thor stops grinning, his smile turning more nostalgic now.

"When I was young, I couldn't wait to be a King. My past self would never believe what a heavy burden that is in truth. Hmm... This will sound strange, mayhaps, but I'm glad I accidentally didn't become the King of Asgard the year I was originally supposed to."

"That, actually doesn't sound strange at all." Surprising to hear the mighty Thor say it? Yes. But not strange in the least.

"I don't want to be a King. When I was younger, I did, but with time I feel more confined. Trapped within these walls, rather than having ownership over them. I'll admit, the tales of your adventures have reached Alatea, and I would always find myself envious, wanting to be out there. Fighting demons, giants, and dark elves."

Hearing of battles and wanting to join them, take glory in - oh, but that sounds familiar. And, for the first time, Thor considers Rykan - and wonders if the man is young.

Because this sounds like a young man.

"Adventures... hmm, not all of them, but those that end in great and glorious battles," Thor says, "can be necessary, at times, but they also bring destruction. Destruction and great loss. Would that some of them never happened."

"But I understand. I used to dream of adventures, long ago. Of great wars. And I was very quick to rise to such opportunities - nay, I was too quick."

He hopes Loki's not using some magics to overhear this converstation, right now. Thor doesn't exactly want to hear I told you so today.

(ooc; she is indeed a shrimp. She can take on a more humanoid form, and often does, but still has crustacean characteristics)

[ Her feelings where the werewolf was concerned was... mixed. A part of her wants to listen to Sakuya, who saw him as a threat, especially to Flandre. Patchouli flat out said he was forbidden from entering the library. Mostly she was just angry at herself for being so 'weak' for falling for him of all people. ]

The forest outside her village was dense and dark. Night had fallen and the moon was full, reflecting off the snow, making it glitter like someone had sprinkled diamonds over the surface of the Earth. It was cold...so cold she could smell it. Zarya had not been home for man years...but as she sat, bundled in outerwear on a swing in her yard that somehow miraculously managed to support her, it felt as though she had never left. The sights and sounds and scents of home were here. For a shifter, it was a very powerful thing. Her ancestors had called this valley home for centuries. They'd defended their village and their country with tenacity through the ages...but they always came home.

Zarya was no different. After it was clear her country was safe, she had returned to the village of her birth to ponder her own future. There were precious few shifters left in the world. Many factors had led to that...she'd met a few in her duties. A tiger. A handful of owls. That scrappy werewolf that she smelled sniffing around whenever Overwatch wanted to know something but could not formally send a man on a mission. He'd never gotten his nose where it concerned her....but she liked to keep an eye on it. One could never be too careful...or too vigilant. Despite her tour being over...despite integrating back into civilian life...she still found herself watching...waiting...standing guard over her family home and this small village, ever the guardian of the Motherland, as though it was in her blood.

In a way, it was. She was merely the latest in a long line of Bears. There were carvings of them dotting the town's architecture and there were even shrines with bear totems in the woods. A stranger who paid particular attention would surely notice it.

It was two years after the attack when she heard a hint of him, sulking through parts of London that were not yet rebuilt while she dealt with rebuilding and lawyers and everybody knowing who she was. It was a lot and once and has continued to be for quite some time, the panic caused by the terrorist attack and the new introduction of the supernatural to the world having many see daemons and ghouls in their closest comrades. Humanity, as usual, was always more destructive than the real monsters.

It took a year to find him after that, making his living the only way he know how Seras jumped at the chance to fight him again but before a foregone conclusion occured, Integra had stepped in, both parting obediently for her, one hers and one her former enemy.

"You will not find what you seek here this way." She had said to him, composed as ever and single blue eye calculating. If Seras had not given him a death to freedom before, she wouldn't be able to do it now either, nor would these petty small people, ghouls, and whatever else he had picked off over time."Come with me instead."

She cannot promise that he will find what he's looking for, but how much more likely was it that he could if he fell in line with Hellsing? At the very least she had a record of keeping a bored and destructive vampire entertained.

When it is five years after the attack, they've been around each other for some time now. There is a sort of familiarity and routine but also the element of always, always being surprised how far Integra's human will can push her.

It's more like home then anything else has been.

This particular night it is just them in the manor, Seras out and a few PMC's located around as security and a bare bones staff- Integra never took much on after Walter had done to betray her- to run the manor. None of that matters as Integra adjusts the sword in her hand and waits for her sparring partner's next move, head on a swivel to make up for lost vision. Training like this has only gotten more intense as time has gone on in a way they never quite seem to touch on, but as is her way, Integra pushes and pushes and pushes to find a breaking point.

Or to find something more.

So much can happen in such a short span of time. Five years feels like a blink. But it also feels like forever. These years with Hellsing feel longer and more fulfilling than the decades he spent with Millennium. Once more he has a pack and at it's head is a far more powerful force than the Major had ever been.

He'd honestly expected to die that day, five years ago. He'd wanted to. He'd given the vampire means to do it. But what the other vampire said was true. Only a human can kill a monster. She offered him a chance to find what he was after. Death. Release from this eternal solitude as the last of his kind. He went with her seeking death.

Five years later, that wish has somewhat mellowed. It might never leave, but hasn't Alucard been that way too, gleefully trying to find the thing that would finally kill him? She has much to do with that. The fierce woman with the heart of a lion. She gives him reason to live.

He hadn't really meant to fall for her, but he is a beast. Wolves seek the strongest of mate's and she is that. Even now as they spar, she goes harder than any human as right to. It tempts him to go all out himself. He can't. She's but human, no matter how strong, and he might have been Alucard's equal in power. He'd never really gotten a chance to find out.

So he holds back and when she pushes too hard, pushes him dangerously towards the Wolf he growls softly in warning. He doesn't wish to actually harm her and he has no other way to express it.

That growl is new. When he is finished he usually just stops moving, lets her sword bite into him the same way Alucard use to when she was a child, the similarities so eerie that if not for the fact she is not connected to the wolf the same was she was Alucard, she would think it as one of the Vampire's other forms. But the presence of her servant had faded five years ago, leaving her grasping at nothing and angry but as was required of her, forced to go on. Now it was just her, Seras and the Captain, the two of them bound not by blood magic, but by their own choice to stay with her.

It is... Not a bad thing. She never allows herself to think what would happened if they left, because she is never allowed to be vunerable.

So the growl gives her pause, her breathing hard and controlled to keep from panting because even in this, just a spar to train, Integra never yields. It was bad the first few years, her aim miserable before she learned to make up for it, but sparring with someone as fast and silent as him helps, training even if he never says a word.

"Are you finished?" She asked with a raised brow. Integra always addresses him as if he will answer back, making sure he's heard even without his voice. She had also studied World War Two military hand gestures for when the situation was dire and he needed to communicate fast, but otherwise she can guess his needs rather well anymore, if he desires let her to know them.
