[Hektor doesn't enjoy running, per se. It's more like a bad habit, as contradictory as it sounds. For some reason, when he finds himself under stress, the most foolproof method for working it out is to move. To run until his lungs are fit to collapse and he can't do anything but lie down and rest.

It's not like he's unaware of the irony of it. It keeps him healthy for his age, at least, aside from his abused smoker's lungs anyway. And his knees and heels, which always protest the mistreatment. It doesn't help that he's had more reason than ever to take to it recently.

He's having those dreams again. They've come and gone since he hit his teenage years, but they've come back in full force without warning since the last weekend, affording Hektor little peace. Beaches and ships and red water lapping at the sand, the taste of metal heavy in the air, voices yelling and screaming and choking and dying. A weapon in his hand and a faceless horde before him, eager to tear him apart. And a figure who stands out from the rest, screams louder than the rest, who parts the mass of bodies in their wake like the ocean waves, getting closer, too close -

Hektor always wakes up before he can see their face. Or maybe he just forgets it on waking. There's some things he feels like he can piece together, if he focuses, which he tends not to do: blond hair, shining gold in the sun. Furious eyes wet with tears. Teeth bared in a snarl, blood splattered skin.

Either way, there's no doubt in Hektor's mind that if he slept just a little longer, it'd end in his death.

(Metaphorical, of course. But maybe literal too. He's not so certain anymore; the pounding of his heart on waking has given him cause for concern more than once.)

So here he is, out on his favored park trail in the early morning before work, doing his best to regulate his breathing as he runs out the lingering anxiety of recurring nightmares. It's the fifth morning in a row he's been out here, and he can feel the burn building in his limbs and lungs, knows he'll have to take a break soon before making his way back.

He's not picky about where he winds up. He settles off to the side of the path, out of the way of any other potential early birds, parking his butt on the still-wet grass. The only reason he doesn't lie down entirely is because he's peripherally aware he's come to sit next to someone else.]

[More a joke than anything else, spoken with a breathless laugh. Park grass is free real estate, after all. He hasn't chanced a look at their face yet, eyes closed, focused on getting his breathing back under control.]
