From the moment you first set eyes on them, you've been drawn - but this is no meet-cute. They are completely unavailable to you: they're sworn to a duty, already spoken for (by someone powerful or evil, no doubt), precious cargo, a caged bird kept away from prying eyes, a possession of a wicked creature. Whatever the case, they are off-limits. The problem is...they are struck by you, too.
Will you fight your feelings, or will you free them so they can be with you? Either way, there's a high probability of it all going up in flames.
HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character, preferences, role, and any other information to make you more taggable.
- Reply to others.
- RNG if desired.
- This meme is slightly inspired by this trope, but the setting can be anywhere and the genre anything.
WHO
- Caged: You're the victim here, kept locked away.
- Taken: You're in a relationship - consensual or otherwise - so you should only have eyes for one. That's not exactly the case...
- Passerby: Here you are, minding your own business, when - who's that? Why are they there?
- Rescuer: Whether you're a knight in shining armor type or someone simply paid or commanded to do this job, you never thought you'd fall for the one you had to rescue.
- Conflict of Interest: You're a guard, but you can't very well do your duty if you want the person you're guarding let go.
- Unknowing Villain: You had no idea your allies were keeping someone and you don't agree with their methods.
- Enemies: They did wrong by you in the past; even they don't deserve this, though.
- Should Be Reviled: Your people and theirs have never gotten along. You should hate them, yet you don't. You want to save them.
- Who's the Monster?: They're being locked away because they're a monster. No one could be further from a beast in your eyes, however.
- Never Felt Before: Usually, you're stone cold, but their plight has gotten under your skin.
- In this Together: Both of you are prisoners, so you can't easily save them, can you?
- Not All Bad: They're been told that they're being protected. You want to show them the outside world isn't so bad.
- The Better Devil: To be honest, you're not much better than their captor. Still, you're something new.
HOW
- Plot and Plan: You know busting them out won't be easy, so you'll put your mind to it.
- Sneak: It's an old-fashion escape with all the subtleties and espionage to get out undetected.
- Fight Anyone: Maybe you're more brawn than brains, or maybe you're just in a tight spot.
- Bargain: Their freedom for yours. Seems like a fair trade.
- Guilt: You can't really free them, can you? This fact tears you up inside.
- Give You Hope: You might not be able to get them out of here now, but you'll keep them looking towards the future.
- Keep You Happy: You'd do anything to see them smile again.
- Be Healthy: They're being mistreated or ill-fed. You can at least try to remedy that.
- Saved Themselves: They only needed an extra push. At the end, they pulled themself out of the pit.
- Selfish: No denying it, you freed them for selfish reasons.
- Selfless: What you want doesn't matter. Their safety and peace are paramount.
- Sacrifice: If need be, you'll put your life on the line.
- Used You: They didn't really love you. But they did know you'd be useful.
- Failure: Your attempt failed and now both of you are looking death in the eyes.
- I'll Steal You: They didn't want to leave their "home." You stole them away.
- Indebted Friends: So they weren't romantically attracted to you. They, however, did platonically bond with you.
- Finally "Together": You've wanted to touch them, hold them, kiss them, and be with them in every way possible, even if it's only for a moment. The smut option.
- Happy Endings: You're both safe, far from danger, and together.

Akutagawa Ryunosuke | Bungou Stray Dogs: BEAST
no subject
atsushi goes there on his own volition. on certain days of the week, at certain times, when he's sure that nobody is left in the office except for one person. of course it's not because he wants to be alone with that person. it's just easier to talk when there aren't almost ten pairs of eyes trained on him and his every move.
he walks in without knocking, as always. his steps lead him straight to akutagawa's desk, in front of which he stops and sets down what he's holding - a box, with barely notable flowers printed on its pastel pink exterior. the bakery just doesn't have any inconspicuous packaging, much to his dismay. ]
Busy day?
[ atsushi doesn't wait for a reply before he takes a seat, as though he's a mere client who wants to tell akutagawa about his problems. ]
no subject
His posture tenses at the sound of footsteps in the hall, gray eyes instantly rising from the notes spread across the desk, anticipating. It's difficult to get out of the habit of not being on-guard at all times, especially alone like this, and Akutagawa suspects that it's a habit he'll never be fully rid of. The sight of that signature black coat relaxes the tension from him a fraction, because while he knows better than to underestimate this man there is also that unspoken arrangement and understanding between them. These moments are an armistice.
Akutagawa gives a nod of greeting, gaze dropping just briefly to the box before it moves to Atsushi's face.]
There are always things to do, it's natural with so few employees. [A pause, a tilt of the head.] Is that something for the director?
no subject
his gaze moves to the box placed on the table now, like a comically tiny wall separating the two of them. ridiculous, considering just how many private things they've shared with each other already. atsushi shouldn't be so talkative, but that man sitting across from him always manages to make him talk. ]
It's just something I saw on the way. We can share, if you like.
[ there he goes, sounding all controlled and as unemotional as possible, when the truth is that he spent ages in that bakery to try and decide on what to pick so akutagawa would like it. there's rich chocolate cake, fluffy lemon cake, strawberry shortcake, souffle cheesecake, and even some cake with figs in it.
maybe he went a little overboard.. ]
no subject
Without waiting for prompting Akutagawa sits forward a little in his chair to carefully pluck the lid off of the box as if he still doesn't entirely trust that there isn't a bomb inside. If the young man finds the sheer variety of cakes suspicious for something that was simply seen and chosen "on the way" he doesn't bat an eye or comment, simply taking a moment to examine all of the daintily-decorated sweets. There's a subtle shift in Akutagawa's solemn expression, just the slightest perking up in his posture like one might see in a dog whose ears have stood up.]
They almost look fake with how neatly they're made.
[Food with aesthetic value has never been something that he's had the luxury of partaking in before, and now with such picturesque toppings and creams sitting atop each perfectly-cut slice before him like this he isn't quite sure how to approach them. Dark eyes linger on them for a few more moments as if he's memorizing the sight before finally raising to Atsushi again.]
Have you tried any of them before?
no subject
No. I don't..
[ ..go out often? it's going to sound like a lie to akutagawa, but the times when he does leave the vicinity of dazai or kyouka are scarce. these days, there's barely anything for him to do aside from checking in on akutagawa. ]
..eat such fancy things often. Cheap candy does the trick already.
[ to satiate the sugar cravings. he figures it's the same for akutagawa, but there's nothing wrong with indulging in something high class for once, right? all that money dazai pays him for his work should be put to good use for once. ]
Do you have any forks?
no subject
He gets to his feet wordlessly, moving away to go rummaging through the drawer of another desk. Fortunately Kunikida is always prepared, so it's only a few moments before Aktuagawa returns with two forks in hand, one of which he places in front of Atsushi.
He sits back down then, pondering the options between them with the same intensity he might maintain during a fight before finally making his decision. With that same care as before he takes a forkful of the cake with fig and eats it, considering for a moment before he finally speaks up;]
It's very good.
no subject
I would have been disappointed otherwise.
[ not to mention that this box of cake was expensive.. he won't let akutagawa know that, of course. atsushi isn't one to brag, unlike other members of the mafia who absolutely love indulging in expensive things and rubbing it into people's faces. looking at you, chuuya.
atsushi will leave the cake with figs entirely to akutagawa, even though he intends to share all the others. he doesn't even know what figs taste like, so it's not like he's missing out on something he likes. that chocolate cake, however.. atsushi decides to try that one first and his expression might just relax a little as soon as the rich taste of chocolate floods his taste buds. ]
You should try that one next. It's better than any chocolate they had in orphanages.
no subject
Chocolate was certainly the one he had planned on sampling next, so Atsushi doesn't need to be invited twice. Once Akutagawa has taken the moment to fully appreciate the fig cake and the other man has finished his own bite he takes a small forkful.
He chews thoughtfully then looks to the cake as if considering it, head tilted.]
It's very rich... It almost tastes like a completely different thing from the chocolate I'm used to. The texture is good, too.
no subject
Apparently the cheap chocolate we had is made primarily with fat and sugar. It's nothing like the real thing.
[ he takes another forkful from the cake, eyes closing as he savors the taste. if this were his first time tasting something as good as this, he might have started crying. ]
... did you know that chocolate comes from trees?
no subject
But the last comment finally draws his attention back to Atsushi and he blinks once.]
Trees? Ah, cocoa you mean? I knew it was a plant, but not a tree...
[He takes another bite before tilting his head, intense gaze lowering back on the sweets as if they'll offer more of an explanation.]
It's odd to imagine chocolate coming from a tree. It doesn't fit.

permissions in journal, but the basics are: cross-canon/ocs welcome, m/m and m/f are both great. (side note that platonic options are also welcome.) I don't mind crafting starters so long as I have some idea as to what part of this you're most eager for; I'm especially eager for bond doing some violent/risky to help whoever he's forbidden to be with, with or without that going badly. ]
